Forza

yeahhh... 👎

Well, I got the demo. I like it. Doesn't blow my socks off, but I would describe it as a good foundation for a great game.

The physics engine needs tweaking and balancing, but in terms of raw elements being simulated, it feels a lot more stout than GT3's. I haven't played prologue, or the new-fangled Japanese demo, so I can't compare. The tire traction, braking, and shifts in weight are a lot more pronounced, the power from each car is tangible and the crash physics are neat, but not "fully-featured". They're just kind of "there", for when you screw up. So far, the performance doesn't change radically when the car is damaged. Yes, it is a lot harder and more complex than any GT game I've ever played. But so far, it's not as much fun either (at least with the assists off.). In GT, it was more tailored for a gamepad, but Forza is a ***** to control smoothly with a controller, even with the very good triggers and thumbsticks. This game is dying for a good wheel, because the physics are impressive .

For the graphic-whores:

In 2 words: mixed bag. Great details, cool lighting, bright clear colours, fancy effects and crisp textures. Also very clean and sharp-looking with the AA and 480p support. But that clarity and sharpness highlights the graphical shortcomings, like some downright crappy car models (bizarre, since some of them are fantastic), overly light shadows (again, wierd, since the lighting engine is a cut above GT's, technically), cheesy particle effects like sparks (I'm seeing a pattern here, because a lot of the particle effects like gravel getting kicked up, look great) and a framerate that is merely "decent". GT is more consistent, polished and elegant-looking.

SOUND: **** yeah! Sound is brilliant in 5.1 digital, the engine sounds are snarly and raw, sound from the turbos is neat (it seems to be universal though, not custom-matched to the specific car), collisions sound brutal, and the tires screeching have so many different pitches and tones you can tell how your car is behaving just from the sound. Very good stuff.

Whether I consider forza a "better" game than GT4? MMMmm.... so far I'm still leaning to GT, because it's a more complete package, and the car selection is just enbeatable, and I still have my fingers crossed for tuning options.

I'm glad GT finally has something that can be considered competition. :)

Oh yeah, enthusia looks the part too. See attached pic. :D

Good impression. I agree with the unpolished visual. some thing are done so grea but some not so great. A good FF wheel would definetly give Forza a much better appreciation of the physics.

Gt4 seems to be a more complete package in terms of car / track selection but is missing some key elements. Forza GT (a mixed of Forza and GT series) would make a perfect "driving simulation game". Enough to make any fanboy squill :-P

That gt4 demo isn't that recent. I doubt it's even up to date like the tgs demo which had more cars and b-spec.
There he goes again.

Hey, just from looks and news, compare GT4 to Enthusia, Cobra.

god...these threads are just for flamers, it's already been stated that Forza is decent, GT4 is pretty good, and no one knows about enthusia...why why why must the flaming continue? It's not like there's anything amazing or new coming out with forza that we need to keep comparing it over and over, it's been done...

I wish car movement in GT4 looked more realistic, sometimes it looks very unnatural, just compare a real rally jump with a GT4-jump(impreza at grand canyon). Bumps look weird too sometimes, like the car is really fixed to the road. RBR and Enthusia handle both things much better.

RBR likes to make your car go backwards into ditches. :)

We're doing it towards Cobra b/c he has not provided any good facts and outrageous statements at how GT4 beats Forza in everything. If you look back through these pages, you'll see everything he put down.

He brags is what he does.
"Driving a P2 Ferrari is easy! Without aids too!"

Whatever. All he'll say is the P2 Ferrari is in.
That's why I'm thinking of a way from him to prove he played it , even at his friend's house.

what's the point really? Just let him say what he wants. If he can't prove anything, or come up with a reasonable argument, then just ignore him.

or maybe I just suck. :)

keeping that bastard subaru on the road is a mother of a challenge in itself. Getting fast times? I won't be anytime soon.
Ah ok, now I get it hehe. Do you play it with a controller? On PS2 or PC? =]

played it on PC with a mediocre wheel (thrustmaster nascar pro digital).

Back on topic:

Anyone notice how the front brakes lock up before the rears in Forza? It looks cool in motion.

And you can use the right thumbstick to move the camera to the side of your car and watch the wheels. They're fully 3d at a standstill and at low speeds, then they transition to a 2d texture template like GT3 when at speed. It looks great, for the most part.

Ok 👍
Well, you gotta practice :D
It probably is harder than real life, not because of the physics engine but because you don't feel the car, no true 3D vision etc.

I just downloaded and tried GTR and I was extremly impress. I never play racers on my Pc anymore but this one might bring me back.

2005 is going to be a busy year for racers

Oh and you should really try www.liveforspeed.net :)
S2 will be released soon.

I wish I could. I don't have a Gameshark or that, and from what I heard the Gameshark isn't the best thing.

Hmm...what's that red and black car in the back?
Another Mosler?

And this is the reason I love GTR. Look at that! Cars will actually pull out of the garage. I hope thats a practice session.
It'll remind me of Sports Car GT (PC). :)
