There's the fact that the MP4-12C landed right in between the ZR1 and Viper with similar tires, while the 458 was a half second slower than the Viper with tires one performance class lower than the other three. Given similar R-compound tires I'd expect the 458 to be leading or on par with the ZR1.

Note the disclaimer in the article. Pobst did not do "set-up" laps in these cars. He went out and did five lap stints and they took the best times.

This is akin to the difference between a GTR Ring lap done by Nissan, and one done by an independent outsider. All that matters is how the same driver's laps compare to his laps in the other car set on the same day.

Base Viper that lost to a Top trim Vette whom on top of that, the driver wasnt really that great........

Nearly the same as-tested price. Nearly the same power rating. Very similar tires (from the article, the Viper was on P Zero Corsas), and the GTS is the current top trim Viper, thank-you-very-much, since there is no ACR variant available for the new Viper.

between 2008 and 2010, changes to thte car was minimal, just the suspension has been lowered one Inch.
There are some notable differences. Tighter 5th gear (probably doesn't matter on Laguna), shorter shift time, lower drag rear wing.

Actually it's backwards now. The base Viper should be faster than the GTS, it's lighter. The GTS has more traction control options though.

So, do you think any cars are good?

something of decent quality that actually don't feel like a brick is good, rx-7 or wrx-sti,supra,m3 and even caterham r-type are all better cars may not be pretty but many of those can come close to these muscle cars at Laguna(and have more fun)

when you can get two of above mentioned for the price one viper/vette never mind parts you put a clutch in a viper Google that price.

go to track have great time drive home. where as these are for go down rodeo drive.

viper vs vette debate happens every-time. truth is they both are terrible cars unpractical over sized, over powered cars, no balance. only thing good bout them is they look good and have high resale lets just settle that there are better cars and there are worse cars soon these v8/v10 won't be made any more. they are dinosaurs from past decades.

v6 turbo vette will be next can make less power than the v8 with less weight same speed.
as for viper im very surprised its still around should have disappeared long ago. imo

I'm not one to be mean, but did you think before you posted that? So in your eyes just about every car from Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, etc are terrible? Sure they can't get your kids to soccer on time like a minivan can, but that doesn't make them terrible..

Giles Should be Furious, and has every right to be. that Randy Driver really sucks and its proven that hes suck.

2010 ACR Viper driven by Chris Winkler 1:33.92

2008 ACR Viper Track Record Driven by Randy Pobst 1:35.12

between 2008 and 2010, changes to thte car was minimal, just the suspension has been lowered one Inch.

So multiple World Challenge championships, 2 Daytona 24 Hour wins, and mutiple race wins means he sucks? Right...

You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?

RX-7: ~300hp. The last one was made when, in 1997? And that's somehow better than the new Viper and ZR1?

STi: ~300hp. More fun than a Viper or Vette around a track? Is the track covered in snow?

Supra: Again, an outdated 90's ~300hp sports car.

M3: This is the only one that remotely makes sense.

Caterham R: You just said the Viper and Vette are unpractical! What does that make the Caterham!

Googled. Around $500 USD for the part. I paid about the same for a 2002 Z06 clutch.

Yes He sucks AT DRIVING THE VIPER. the proof is there in his 2008 lap time vs Chris's 2010 record.

Yet the article clearly states despite the changes from the 2008 to 2010 Viper, they helped a lot, especially in the corners.

so your basing your logic on age old cars aren't fun so an older srt-10 acr is less fun than this new one or a 69 corvette 427 which is great car is less fun than a 03 corvette

Was considering that, but I wonder if the 70 or so pound difference would matter at this power level as much as traction control would.

If SRT were ever to release an ACR variant of this car, it would likely beat the ZR1... But by then, Chevrolet would also have something new in the pipeline. Maybe.

Still... i wonder if the tables would have been turned if this test were done on a smoother, flatter track...

You choose to ignore, of course, the fact that Dodge changed specifications in those two years?

And that he beat the lap record of a car with lots of downforce in a car without it?

Hokay, he must really suck, then. :dopey:

Yes, exactly what I'm saying... :dunce:

Did you just seriously say an RX7 and a Caterham were "better cars" then the Viper?

The Viper is more practical then the Caterham for more then a couple reasons. 1 being, it has a roof, so rain won't ruin your day. And you won't die if you crash a Viper.
The RX7's Rotary motor might produce a ton of power for it's size, but it as reliable of a car, as your Cousin's Brother's Friend's sister is for getting you to an airport on time. Stupid comparison.

Glad to know your last name is Schumacher. Maybe you should be their hot-lapper?

TanjaM92 confuses real life with Gran Turismo.

Let's test this.

What do you think of the Veyron?

veyron is not a car

I'm properly amazed that you said that.. Way to prove him right.

The Veyron is a work of art, and engineering excellence. Being able to be the pinnacle of luxury GT cars, while being the fastest (debatable) car in the world is astonishing. Numbers aren't everything.

Back to the Viper..

Good Idea.

I like it.

This. Or blue with white stripes.

its a computer with a complex engine that has 4 turbos on it weighs more than a pickup

Love to see your thoughts on the Nissan GTR....

Anyway how much is the Viper going to be exactly? I'd imagine around 100k? ( Been a while since I was looking at road car prices so I might be out the loop :dopey: )
