Get a better picture of the GT5 model and I'll tell you.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA seriously? I took an OFF SCREEN PICTURE of the GT4 model and you want a better picture of the GT5 one? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA come on now. I don't have to do that for any other current generation racing game, the differences are obvious at first glance. The fact that you're asking for a better picture is a sad sign of the crap models used in GT5.

Looks like a lot of people have already given up on a game that won't be released until November 2010 (at least). So let me try to be the positive thinker again.

You all know I STILL haven't played Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, nor own a PlayStation 3, right? This goes back to an argument during the wait for Gran Turismo 4. People already gave up on GT4 when the much-promised online play was eventually dropped. Once suicide rates doubled and tripled worldwide because of that news (exaggeration, of course), didn't we still get a great racing game when GT4 shipped? You can't let just damage, online play, major sports car makers, and interior views alone be the reason to get GT5. Veterans of Gran Turismo (including 10+ year veterans like myself) love Gran Turismo for the reasons that has made it such a success.

As for the Premium vs. Standard deal, I've stayed away from this because I'm not as certain about this myself. I'm not, however, flooding this thread with angry rants about something like this. I think some people make Standard (or let's use "non-Premium") like these are cars that have PlayStation 1-quality interiors (or a very early PS2 racing game interior). I don't care much about Premium vs. Standard- I just want to go race. I just want to own and tune cars. I just want to win races whether 2 laps around Autumn Ring Mini or 24 Hours at Le Mans. That, to me, is more important than worrying too much about interiors, damage, online options, and the like. I think going with past models from GT4 is probably a good move if you can't feature every last car with impressive modeling inside and out. I don't think this will be rushed like GT3 or full of missed execution like GT2. So I'm not negative in the least bit. I'm not going to say that it's inexcusable to spend so long to come up with such a lack of positive progress. EA Sports re-hashes a lot of their stuff and nobody seems to complain, so why with GT?

Maybe I'm too much of a big picture or minimalist thinker (I say that like it's a bad thing!). I think a lot of us just really miss the point of what makes certain games great. I've just always been a minimalist thinker with games. To explain the point a little more, here's a saying that somewhat captures the point- "beauty captures attention, but personality captures the heart." The heart of Gran Turismo is in great racing across a variety of international locales with cars from around the world. And think about this- 16 cars to a track and even time cycles. The time cycles alone HAVE to maintain interest, don't you think? People complained about no reverse lights- now we got them. Maybe you can complain on no skid marks. But still, a lot of us just tend to forget what makes certain games great rather than a bunch of features that make them such can't-miss games. I still believe this will be the hardest-hitting Gran Turismo EVER. Almost as if this game will be the racing equivalent of hard hits like in Madden NFL or even the old NFL Blitz games.

I still want to play and enjoy Gran Turismo 5. I wasn't too worried about cars from GT3 re-hashed for GT4, so why would I be truly disappointed with GT5 having certain GT4 models? The thing that I think a lot of people would make is that games that take years to create should be WORTH those years. We saw what happened with Malice. We saw what happened with Duke Nukem Forever. GT5, unlike the previous two titles, will still be loved and played for years to come until GT6. I think a lot of people are making Gran Turismo 5 out to be "GT4 with 200 'Special Cars'." I think when people become too frustrated with a game or a game series, they tend to dislike anything that doesn't seem to show any positive progress. Or at least, anything not even remotely resembling any far-fetched promises. I care more about racing and gameplay than I do any superficial claims. I'm not going to go on strike just because Gran Turismo 5 is somehow seen as a dud rather than a stud. Every game is going to have its shortcomings. The real issue of merit is how these shortcomings, if at all, plays a factor in how the final product will eventually be. Are these shortcomings to the point where GT5 somehow lost all of its magic and is simply just another racing game? Or, is it going to be a great racing game with some negative points we'll have to live with? GT4 didn't have online, but we still used the hell out of Photo Mode.

Long story short, there have been disappointments with recent news, but I still care about this game and still care about playing it. I'm as disappointed about the car deal as much as anyone, but I'm not going to go on strike at Polyphony Digital. I basically went to the latest page rather than read all or most of the pages and posts because I meant to talk about this as soon as I could. Anything I might have missed or any extra points I want to make, I'll just blog about them.

Don't all GT PSP cars use the same generic cock-pit view?

If GT PSP cars are transferable, will the generic cock-pit move to GT5? Or will it automatically be lost?

The cars themselves will not be transferred per se, you will simply unlock them in GT5 if they are in your garage.

Can I borrow those rose-colored glasses you have? Clean up the obvious quality hit from the digi cam and you have the same model that I've been posting for 2-3 pages now.

Please show me the differences, aside from the digi cam quality hit.

They are not the same model because the output resolution from a PS2 is way lower than the PS3. They have taken parts from the GT4 version and then upgrade the texture resolutions and probably edited it too. It just shows how good GT4 was really.

Resolution has nothing to do with the actual model. Anybody who plays games on PC will know this. I used to mod NFS4 on PC all the time. I'd see screenshots of car models in 800x600 with no antialiasing and they looked like crap. Put the car on my computer, ran the game in a higher resolution with 4xAA and the model looked way better. SAME MODEL, different resolution. The model was not changed at all. Anyways, I have direct photos of the GT4 car incoming so hold on.

If I am not mistaken, through the Honda twitter interview he said it was possible.

Yea, I saw that. But WTF at needing a gamer to ask you that with only 4 months left. Makes it almost...laughable to even answer that.

Surely, he's considered this SOME TIME during development, not on Twitter at E3 2010!

Some one said in this thread, not too long ago, that GT PSP had unique blacked-out views. Couldn't GT5 do that?

Hey that was me that said that. I kinda imagine they will, though that was what Kaz was getting at in the twitter interview.

They are not the same models as GT4, go put on your ps2, fire up GT4 and compare them with the video of the standard cars. If they look the same to you see an optician. The standard cars still look great only problem really is the cockpit unfortunately.

It's pointless, I've tried to tell them this over and over.

Apparently they were all shipped GT4 with high-poly models and HD graphics back in 2004.

Putting a nice shiny finish, with more polygons added makes them completely different cars? Come on fellas.
Denial is a sad place.

You're comparing SIDE SHOTS of the GT4 car, with a FRONT/TOP shot in GT5. Screwy comparison from different angles means NOTHING.

Why don't we all complain some more, so that PD can take an extra 20 years modeling all 800 of the GT4 cars into GT5 quality. These GT4 cars I highly doubt were just transferred over without any touch-ups. Who knows, they could be completely re-worked. Until the final game comes out, IN 5 MONTHS (which is plenty of time to do some extra touch-ups) we won't know for sure.

Just drop it.

I saw. I saw. But again, WTF @ needing a gamer to ask you this @ E3 2010 with few months till launch.

Here's to hoping!:dunce:👍

Just as I feared the most, the standard cars are simply GT4 cars in HD and with updated reflections. Ha!

Who else will NEVER drive those GT4 cars? Raise your hand.
*keeps hand lowered and stares*

Frankly, I'm still racing in GT4. So guess what I'm going to be doing in November, with or without you guys?

Would be appreciated if all this silly complaining could go in to that thread. Thanks.

So these are the same models?

Even taking into account the fact you took the pic off the tv what do you think?

Fixed. Take a look, champ. Take a real, long look and ask yourself if that really looks like 6 years of advancement and hardware WAY more powerful.

I'm looking at the car ingame RIGHT NOW and it looks IDENTICAL to the screens I posted.

Taken seconds ago from my digi cam, and I didn't even turn on 1080i mode! GT5 now has EVERY ADVANTAGE and the differences still aren't very noticable.

Yes, they are. It's noticeable. The problem is that the cars are clearly just texture enhanced models straight from GT4. They still look great but not as amazing as we have been lead to believe this whole time.

They look like the same model of corvette to me?
If you highlight the top picture, you can see an interior.
'Premium'
[

You can see the interior of standard cars from the outside as well. By interior I mean driver and head rests.

Again you bring out the photomode version :)

arrrgh need to sleep, why am I bothering with this lol, I guess it was the patronising use of the word champ.

Not even that J GT5 showed us alot of new and great features + i still not have seen that the STANDARD Car say it will have no cockpit view. i went to the web site and did not see nothing that says no cockpit view. If there is no cockpit view, yes i will be disappointed, however GT5 will still be the best racing game to me. If you watch those new trailers you have no choice but to be amazed. In the End i use to think this site had mature real GT fans but after all this info my opinion has change. GT5 in the end will be the TRUTH!! 👍

^^^ Case closed. Sheesh.

I'm gonna disagree. Remember Kaz telling us that the detail they had designed into the GT4 cars was beyond that of what they could do on the PS2? Now in gt5, you're finally getting those over-designed gt4 cars. Simple as that.
I don't mind it, I'm not sure why we're having a fit over this? For those that are mad at apparent lack of cock pit view, move on.

This seriously is a bit odd. Another poster said that the Corvette might be 'premium' but downgraded to 'standard' when entering a race with other 'standards'. This would kind of make sense, what do other people think?

'Premium' - Same Corvette, has an Interior and looks better.
qn9yrm.jpg

'Standard' - Same Corvette, no interior and looks a bit worse.
screwGT5.jpg

EDIT: Has anyone noticed how the GT5 version has an radio aerial but the GT4 car doesn't?

You people really don't get it, do you? Photomode does NOTHING TO THE ACTUAL CAR MODEL. IT DOES NOT ADD ANY POLYGONS OR DETAIL. I took that picture from a live B Spec race.

WOOOOOOOOOW.
