Last I checked, it wasn't in development for 6 years either. Sorry guys, no racing game made within the last 5 years should have anything even remotely similar to PS2 graphics...i mean...GT5's standard models. Don't get me wrong, the Premium models really are THE best car models I have ever seen, but they're only a very small part of the game.

GT5 was first announced at E3, 2006. Exactly four years ago, not six.

People forget that after GT4 was released people actually, you know, spent time playing the game instead of watching it hit shelves all "that's nice, but when's GT5 coming out?"

It had already been in development before that point, however. Bottom line is, no other gaming series has jumped to a new generation console using the previous generation's graphics. Whats the point? GT5 with just 200 models would have been fine with me; if i remember correctly, GT1 and GT3 had around that many car models.

GT4 was back in 2004. It's 2010 now and we're still having to look at the same old car models? What have they been doing for the past however many years? Meh, we'll model a couple of cars a year, port in a bunch of GT4 models and call it a day.

They are not the same models as GT4, go put on your ps2, fire up GT4 and compare them with the video of the standard cars. If they look the same to you see an optician. The standard cars still look great only problem really is the cockpit unfortunately.

It's pointless, I've tried to tell them this over and over.

Apparently they were all shipped GT4 with high-poly models and HD graphics back in 2004.

Actually I was just playing GT4 last night for old-time's sake. In 1080i, the models in the new Standard video honestly do look the same, save for the higher resolution and maybe a few extra polygons. They couldn't have at LEAST given us realistic windows and a modeled interior/driver? The cars in the standard video look so extremely cheap with the PS1 era windows/interior bullcrap.

I'm not quite sure of that though. Well let's just wait for the game and see for ourselves.

omg people stop complaining !!!!!!! the standard cars will look better !!!! remember kaz is a perfectionist he is not going to let us buy his work if he knows its only ps2 graphics
!!!! still months before it releases so until then all of you need to chill your balls

There is simply no excuse for this.

The fact that 200 premium models are only a small part of the game shows how much GT5 has to offer.

Actually, back in 2004 we were apparently shipped 800 of GT5's 1000 cars. And yes, in GT4 you could run it in HD. Still looks pretty freakin good in 1080i.

He let it get this far...

Theyre practically identical, except for the resolution and bulged hood.

Wow.. So what you're saying is that you'd rather the game not have an additional 800+ cars JUST BECAUSE they aren't as crazily detailed? There is something wrong wit you..

And to EVERYONE, think of it like this, for GT5 PD were able to model 200+ cars absolutely BRILLIANTLY! But because they couldn't model all 1000+ that they wanted, they polished the models from GT4/GTPSP so that we could still use them, and feel them better then before thanks to the new physics.

So basically my point is, GT5 is ALL the GT games brought together in one immense game filled with (the 200+ new car models) new features, new physics and everthing yet to be seen.

Which to me, sounds TRUELY EPIC.

You really don't get it, do you?

You posted an image of a mode that had nothing to do but render the car, that's why GT4's photo mode was so great, those models were ahead of ANYTHING at that time, and for years after.

Then you compare it to an in-game model in GT5, which looks better even with 14 other cars on track, and the system having to put in physics and everything else.

Apples to doughnuts.

I suppose the models aren't that bad, it's just a bit shocking to find out most of the cars are GT4 models. The models would look better if they sharpened up the textures and got rid of the jaggies. 3-D wheels are a must as well, why don't PD use the more detailed Garage models?

Actually, thats the only picture I could find on google real quick. Photo mode doesn't do anything to the actual model...I've seen the car ingame many times and it looks just like it does in the picture I've posted. Maybe you never played GT4?

The standard cars are not GT4 models. From the website : Many of the cars included in past Gran Turismo titles have been beautifully recreated and brought to life on Playstation 3 as "Standard cars".

The collection includes over 800 cars, a vast selection that spans a wide range of era’s and categories.

Also two of the cars shown on the news page aren't even in GT4!

Believe it or not, the in-game model was well below photo mode.

And yes, I played GT4. This is how I can tell the difference between two clearly different models.

Fine, here's an ingame shot of it:

Actually looks better than the photomode pic hahahaha. My original point still stands. Looks nearly identical to the GT5 Standard model.

I'm pretty sure most of them are from GT4, the others are from GTPSP. (R8 LMS, etc.)

As I said, the models would look tons better with 3-D wheels and sharper textures.
