I find a lot of people are reading "Major Advancement" as "Major Announcement" which is not the same thing. At E3 we got in KY's words a "concept video", then at GC just a couple months later we got a playable demo. Going by this very quick advancement, the next step to me seems like the full game, it feels like the natural progression from what we have gotten. Although this would also be a major announcement :)

That is exactly what we all think! :sly:

It's absolutely funny that you should even mention that, because I swear I hadn't even noticed it actually read "Tokyo Game Show 2009: Major Advancement!" :odd:

I read announcement, of course.

Even if it's just the GamesCom list in detail, that'd be pretty good for me. I want to know more about the 1,000 cars. I want to know at least which manufacturers have hopped aboard and I'd like to see some footage of these new cars. Of course, I'd like some surprises and I do think we may see one or two. But I also have a grocery list of things that would make Gran Turismo 5 absolutely ideal. However, I realize that some of these won't appear in the final game and I accept that.

That says nothing about what cars will/will not have damage. For all we know it might be all except the really old ones or ones that are similar to the special cars in GT4.

Well it DOES say that not all the cars will have damage modeling.

And the title of the article is "Yamauchi Clarifies Questions About Damage"

What is there to clarify? Obvious the info from that leak which states that only 170 cars will have damage.

So Clearly the information states that approximately 170 cars will have damage modeling but which exact 170 cars have not been set in stone yet.

About which cars will/will not have damage, it seems quite clear that the 170ish that will have damage will be race cars and not production.

No you assume that only 170 will have damage cause you saw that on the japanese features list (and what kind of damage? We don't know). Re-read the sentence
I can confirm that not every car in Gran Turismo 5 will sport damage models — it will only be select sets
You see the difference or not?...
"Not every car" doesn't necessarily mean "20% of the cars in the game", and I repeat we don't know what kind of damage they're talking about.
Please wait for TGS.

Are you aware that KY has flat out said that the leaked list was accurate.
Are you aware that there was no official features list in english and that we had to translate it with google translator? (not 100% accurate)

and that we had to translate it with google translator?
No, we had translations from native Japanese people and people who can speak Japanese pretty well.

I still think the list on the site was off, why did they delete it?

I know they did. Let's re-check that particular translated part:

"170 Premium new models (full interior modeling, the interior corresponds to vehicle damage)
830 kinds of standard model"

If what Sim says is real why not write instead:
"170 cars with damage
830 without damage"
?

To me that looks more like:
170 premium new models with damage designed individually (more accurate)
830 standard models with some sort of scripted damage (mechanical and/or esthetic) resembling to what we saw in Grid or GTR.

I know he said not all the cars will have damage, but imagine he's talking about used/slow/regular cars. I don't see the problem if a Demio doesn't get damaged in the game.

That's my opinion. That's what we are talking about: opinions...
TGS is in 9 days.

First off, it's aesthetic not esthetic. I am not trying to be a spelling nazi, that one is just getting to me for some reason (I think I must have OCD)

Seconly, how can you have 1000 cars, have 170 models with more accurate damage, have 830 with scripted damage, and then have some used/slow/regular cars that have no damage?

830+170+??? != 1000

And you can't really just say "I don't see a problem if this or that doesn't happen" after all plenty of people do care.

What's the deal with Porsche having to be in GT5? I could care less if Porsche isn't included, there are a ton of other cars better, faster, and stronger than a Porsche(even a 911-gt3 or whatever), besides RUF are already just a damn tuned Porsche.

As for the "major advancement at the TGS, I think PD is talking about other things/features that they haven't shown us up front, features/facts that haven't been announced officially. I am willing to bet a million bucks that the damage in GT5 will not go any further than what we've already seen.

GT is a great simulator but it is not a perfect game-just like any other game, it also has it flaws. If you want a PERFECT game, wait at least 10 years please. I personally could wait another 15 years until the REAL Driving Simulator game comes out but of course everyone here and every hardcore fan will go nuts and become deeply insane.

Well, if GT5 feels like GT5 Pro. with more content, cars, and tracking, then I just hope that GT6 will be the best of the best and will have the most of any racing simulator on any platform to offer us in the LONG..long future.

As for the release date, I'm pretty sure that GT5 will come out this winter and plans for GT6 may already undergone a long---long--paused progress.

Let's all take it easy for the time being, we've got about 9 or so days left to rip each other a new one.

I'll be honest, now that I'm aware it says Major Advancement, and not "Major Announcement" as I had originally read I'm a bit worried.

Why? All of a sudden I get the feeling nothing entirely or drastically new nor informative is going to be shown. Perhaps it's just the realization that I should have actually read the title instead of skimming over it that's taking affect. I hope that a release date is given; not for 2010 or even 2011, but 2009.

I've been altering the title around recently, but it has always said "Major Advancement". I just wanted to clarify that.

I'm not doubting you. :D

My eyes just saw "Advancement", my eyes want GT5 just as bad as I do at this point that they're actually causing me to misread thread titles.

Funny you say this.... When word broke out about this 'major advancement', I understood it as major announcement too. It was not because I read it wrong, it's because in English we are more likely to hear 'major' followed by 'announcement' rather than 'major' followed by 'advancement'. Don't get me wrong, they both make sense and can be understood in English , but the translation may have been slightly altered. Who knows? Either way, new information/detailed information is on the way. And anyway you look at it, it's an advancement in knowledge. And I believe that this advancement in knowledge will be the direct effect of a major announcement. The two terms "advancement" and "announcement" coincide really well.

I don't think we should get the "Major Advancement" message and analyze it like some english language researchers.
To me, once GT5 is on the official Sony list it's enough since until now GT5 wasn't listed anywhere and we only got teasers & minimal demos.
Now that it is officially on the list, and we know that Sony count on this game a lot for the PS3 then I'm most certain that we see full/more accurate/more understandable feature list, release data and other related data. Of course I might be wrong that just how I see the things...

???

What a strange statement!

There's some great exclusives out and how do you know there won't be something else coming out you would love? Would you ignore them to prove a point?

It came out from my PS2 use, it was for GT only. I don't play games anymore, only GT. Till I tried GOW :) I have some other demos on my HD (killzone 2), but first person games are so quirky to play with controller, that I have no pleasure from it, even after days and days of trying.

There have been atleast 3 people on these boards who can speak and read Japanese that have translated that list.

I agree, but unfortunatelly, there is still some huge mysteries about it, like 20 tracks thing etc.

Then please don't http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english/art_literary/449191-aesthetic_vs_esthetic.html#1159678
both can be used and since it's not wrong I'll use esthetic instead of aesthetic, thank you.

Because I think there's a difference between esthetic and mechanical damage. As I said "some used/slow/regular cars" may have only mechanical damage, like in Gran Turismo 2

And you can't really just say "I don't see a problem if this or that doesn't happen" after all plenty of people do care.
Why not? I just did. You don't believe me? It's not my problem. I'm not trying to convince you, it's just my opinion.
