I have a question, since tires and the abilty/non-ability to select the tires for the oponent cars does play a significant role in custom races:

Is there a list, where you can see what road cars have sports tires per default ?
Not that I know of.

I'm getting extremely bad stuttering and lag during my Custom Races. Anyone else have this and have a fix for it? Generally it's during longer races.
I also had big lag in the Nations event last night that cost me seconds per lap so I'm beginning to wonder if its a PS5 thing. My connection seems fine..
Yep, same here.

So, I just noticed that this is not true for RH. If I equip a car with RH tires, it will enter a custom race with those tires, where the other cars default to their standard tires.

Unfortunately, there seems to be some type of tether on a car and it's starting position. I started a (new gen) GT350 with 700PP at the back on RH tires and it was able to work it's way up to 15th, but it kind of ended there. It might be down to the tune, but it sure seemed like it stayed behind a much slower Porsche when it should have easily passed it.

Still, it looks like switching cars to RH tires is a requirement. I switched three cars and all three retained the RH tires.

I knew the thing about the RH tires...

What I am looking for are roadcars that have sports tires as standard tires.Right now I know about 4 cars:

Yes, this is well known for most in here.

hahah I had no idea until I found it.

Thing is, it again highlights the problem isn't the need for some fancy AI, but rather, some dude to set race requirements properly for the opponents.

Yeah, seems You’ll have to record these yourself.

@A_Higher_Place
Today I managed to get rid of the Lag Issue.
I activated the Auto Sync Function between the Cloud and the PS5 Console.
It was deactivated, I don’t know why it was deactivated but after I activated it AND!!! deleted a bunch of my Replays ( the Storage was completely full, I couldn’t even save my Custom Race Settings and I had just 4 of them saved ) everything slowly started to work again properly.
Everything was lagging beforehand, the Menus, everything took ages to load.
My Car Liveries we’re not shown anymore, no Car Pictures in my Garage nothing.
After a while it all started to load up again, Car Pictures, Liveries everything, and the lag in the Menus and during the Races is completely gone now.
I hope I could help you.

Thanks for sharing. That's sad that you had to delete a bunch of stuff for it to work.. I'll check to see if mine has been deactivated. Not entirely sure how though?

Im after some help with the AI on custom races.

So Ive built my touring cars and ive been able to tune them so they are all about equal. Ive spent hours making liveries for all 10 cars too. Ive done some TT runs and they were all with 1 second of each other. My issue now starts with eh AI.
So my race settings are as follows on the image as im trying to make it as competitive as i can but i don’t seem to have any luck. In the race i was 5-6 seconds quicker than top 5 cars and i was nearly 10 seconds quicker than the rest of the field. All cars were able to do 140mph on the straight but when i check the reply they are doing no more than 125mph max. I love GT7 as its a fun game but the AI just make me question is it even worth playing the game. The only way ive found to make this competitive is to drive as slow as the AI, and thats on half throttle.

Can someone suggest whats the best thing for me to do? I only have 1 car of each make so if i was to completely kill my car off power etc… my team will also lose there power. Is my only option to buy a 2nd car and run this car with significantly reduced hp via the power restrictor? Also so does fuel and tyre slow the AI too? Should i set these to off?

A few things that I've done are:-
Short races where I start at the back.
Have less PP than the AI cars and worse tyres
Start the grid with the better PP AI cars at the front. Overtaking slows them down a lot so put the best car on pole.

Thanks. 👍🏻

I think I’ve found a happy medium now in my race series.
I do 3 races (morning, afternoon & sunset/night), each race is 30 miles every race, so 10-15 laps.
I’ll do a TT in each car to sort my grid order for the first race. Second race is a complete reverse grid. And third race I use a random generator to sort my grid. This way I can get some mixed results and hopefully the op cars don’t win every race.
AI cars are all on similar PP, BHP, Weight, Speed limiters etc…. My car I was using the same as my team mate but I had to lower my BHP to adjust for my extra speed.
Also damage been on high is a good race mix up.

If anyone is interested I have a race highlight video. I have a better race that I did at night but made the video.

That sounds great and I'm glad you've got a good setup. I too do 3 races per location and I think I'll steal your morning, afternoon, sunset idea. :)
I do the first race in performance point order with me starting 20th.
2nd race in finishing position order
3rd race using the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) reverse grid. Where I draw a random number between 6 and 12 and they start on pole with everyone who finished before them in reverse order.
Then in the next round of the championship I rig the 1st race order to keep the championship interesting.

I'm working on a lightweight series for 1955-1975 road cars (basically a later Goodwood Revival race). Under 1000kg and up to 150 HP. Provisional startlist:

Abarth 595, Alpine A110, Fiat 500 F, Honda S800, Mini Cooper S, Nissan Skyline Hardtop, Porsche 356, Renault R8, Toyota Sports 800 and VW 1200

2 car teams makes a full grid. The Renault is technically a rally car but I can forgive that. Nissan and VW are slightly over the weight limit. Will take a bit of fiddling to balance out the power/weight and torque. 3 million to buy all the vehicles at current prices, then whatever the upgrades cost.
Did a test run of this with just the 10 cars on their own, found the Beetle (1200) was surprisingly fast.
I forgot that it now has a 911 engine in the back!
Off to the UCD to buy a couple of untouched models.

Haha yeah steal any ideas 👍🏻

I was going to copy the BTCC format too but the I thought the dominat cars would win every race and the slower one would always be at the back. With my current method those slower cars have picked up points in my mini league.

I have been following this thread and appreciate all the research and great ideas. I am interested in custom races as GT is pretty good at teaching race driving (i.e. car vs. track), but not great at teaching racing. I find my overtake and close proximity racing skills lacking. I set up a group 3 grid using 10 teams of two cars each. Each AI car is stock plus racing transmission on RH. My car is the same, but at 85% power using the restrictor and starting P20; doing roughly 30 mile races on Spa and Red Bull Ring I finished P8 and P9. I have track and collision penalties on and had some of each in each race. I was about 4 and 2.5 seconds off per lap the top podium drivers respectively. At Sargenga I had damage on "heavy" and was spun into barry R. I had to limp to the pit to fix the damage and ended P19. I was off the top pace by about 3 seconds. I like having "heavy" damage on as it causes AI to random pit to fix issues as I have fuel and tires at 1x. It also means I need to be very careful around other cars, which should help me learn. I think I need to raise my power a bit and figure out a good grid set up system before beginning my 5 race season.

AI throttle is fixed! Just tested a short run at Route X and Blue Moon Bay in the same car, pace was pretty much identical.

Maybe verrrrry slightly slower, but much better than it was before. On ovals, slipstream will close that little gap, on road courses it won’t make a difference, I don’t think.

Tyres still aren’t fixed :(

EDIT: AI throttle is only partially fixed, reverts back to 90% after half a lap. Sorry for getting people’s hopes up, figured it was fixed on the small amount of testing I did. My bad for not testing more thoroughly. I only ran ovals so maybe the throttle issues don’t show up there, or they’re not as prominent.

I'm afraid the throttle is still not fixed.

Did a quick 3-lap SuperGT race around Suzuka and these are the results:

Opening 1st lap, this is the AI at turn 1:

Full throttle!

But after the Hairpin, well...

Tires also not fixed. I have one NSX and one SC430 with Racing Hards and even though they're using RMs in the tuning sheet, they still use RH in the race.

Awww :(

Anyone buying multiple cars for custom races, the GT-R GT500 99' is now available at LCD for 2.7 million.
I think a total of 5 GT-Rs were used in the 1999 JGTC so that's 13.5 million if you want to complete the grid.

Damn, sorry for getting people’s hopes up, it seemed better than before. Well, it is better, but only for a short while. Must be something funky going on with their AI code that it bugs out again after half a lap.

Tried a couple 90s F1 races using the f1500t, all cars had exactly the same set up but the front three just disappear into the distance. I need to find a way to make the races more interesting

With my SF19 races (set up as F1 cars) I do reverse grid order and power limit the teams according to ranking - so Williams start pole with 80% power, and it cascades down to the back where you find Ferrari and Red Bull at 100%.

This list is by no means complete but there are many road cars with sport tires equipped. The cars below all have sport hard equipped, with the exception of the BAC Mono that has sport mediums.

I’ll give it a try. Do you use grid starts or rolling starts?

Played the goodwood custom race while waiting the real one next month :D

Mainly for the e-type vs cobra like the RAC TT.

All cars are between 520 and 570pp and stock tires
AI's E-type were upgraded to lightweight spec, my driving car was semi lightweight around 524pp. (Sadly the AIs were way too slow)
Cobra were roughly detuned to 289 spec
Other cars are basically stock or some power upgrades to reach the pp range.

Did one more before the FOS in the lower class.(around 420~450pp)

Just lost the drag race to the line.

I tell you what, the AI are leaving me for dead at Catalunya no chicane. Using the TCM, DTM and N2 AE86 cars, AI just pull away. It's crazy.
I feel PD tweaked the AI at this circuit. Mainly in braking. I'm being outbraked and the AI are programmed much quicker in the corners. I'm still getting used to the Dual Sense controller, but goodness gracious, AI are much different here than at all the other circuits.

A few changes to the grid - out go the R8, Skyline and Beetle - in come the other 356, Abarth 1500 Biposto and Ferrari 500 Mondial.
At least, the Ferraris will come in when they next appear in Legendary, I missed them this time. They also significantly raise the cost of the series, each one is worth more than the rest of the grid combined.

Need to figure out the tyre situation, whether to leave them on whatever they come with or switch everyone to RHs.
