GT5 did, but that game had a lot more drama surrounding it.

Kazunori-san will be working overtime if PS4 physical version requires two discs. :D

Edit: Just checked and it has been confirmed as "2 Discs" for PS4 version.

Hopefully they will bring back some of the options we've lost, such as the course map scale

One of the drawbacks of the GT series is that each game is far enough away from the last, that these games tend to become completely revamped. I'm hoping that with these assets that have finally been modeled to a much high degree, lasting significantly longer, can be utilized in each new edition. So with less strain on say cars or completely new tracks, they can carry over all the options, or small quality of life changes from the last game, into the new one.

Red Dead Redemption II had two discs for PS4 as well. The first was a 'data' disc which you only ran once and the other was the 'play' disc. I presume it will be similar for GT7.
I’d like to add that having the second disc strictly for data installation makes installation much quicker than installing via the internet. 100+ GB games will probably be the norm from here on out, so physical games with two or more discs will be more common unless a disc with more available storage than a Blu-Ray becomes preferred.

So in Brand Central, a R34 is more expensive than a Nismo R35?!

That's honestly realistic right now, I've seen R34 GT-Rs go for over 200k and well; I've seen GT-R Nismos for under that.

What happened with American muscle cars from the 1960s in the 2000s is now happening with Japanese sports cars from the 1990s.

Wonder what they'll need two discs for, maybe content installation, similar to the Xbox 360-era Forza titles?
It will be like GT Sport Spec II as they can't fit everything they require to be installed on one disc due to PS4 not supporting high capacity BD-XL discs like PS5. Quite incredible that GT Sport released on one disc given the current size of it. I wonder if they've held back content for GT7 so it can be added by an update due to disc space and cost concerns? I remember GT2 having two discs and sometimes being too lazy to change the mode. At least nowadays you don't have to change between discs once installed.

It seems like the PS5 version doesn't need 2 discs. Interesting. Actually I am glad I was thinking I might have to switch to a digital version
PS5 support 100GB discs vs 50GB on PS4 hence the difference in discs required if the information is accurate. I am going to go for digital for the first time at launch for a GT game as don't see much benefit going with the physical version in my region due to not getting any extra stuff and I don't like having a disc inside console so I can keep it silent.

That makes perfect sense thanks for clearing that up

Kinda surprising they didn't do a public beta. Then again a lot of the net code is probably similar to GT Sport.
I looked into this last week, they announced the demo 2 weeks before the game released. So this week or next would be the time to announce it. Especially since it's been 5 years and millions of Playstations sold since the last release.

That may be true, but the convenience factor of starting up GT Sport with some mates for a quick race without having to swap discs each time put me firmly in the camp of not wanting a retail disc. It's just a shame we can't have a compromise where we don't have to use the disc once installed.

You won't need to swap disks, one will be data that installs onto your HDD and the other will include the data to launch the game as well as additional content and install data.

Hmm? No, I was referring to disc vs. digital -- swapping out one game for GT and back. Call me lazy, but I hate doing that when I just want to jump into GT for a few minutes and run a few hotlaps or a quick race. I had digital with GT Sport and it was really convenient.

Ah, fair enough. I thought you meant switching from GT7 disk 1 to disk 2 .

I agree, digital is very convenient if you have the HDD space or if you don't mind uninstalling games. If I do buy GT7 (pending reviews) I'll buy the digial version in all probability.

It is very convenient to use digital. Unfortunately the discs install on your SSD so they still take up space. I have like 250 gb left on my PS5 SSD so I have think hard about what games want to get until I get another ssd

Data compression specific to the PS5 has the effect of significantly reducing storage sizes, as example's Subnatica on PS4 is 14GB, on PS5 it's 3.5GB, Control is 42.5GB on PS4 and 25.8GB on PS5.

Makes me feel even better about deleting GT Sport's install data from my base PS4, especially since GT7 will render it entirely obsolete. GT7 is gonna take up over a fifth of the total space on that thing when I get it and install it - but I think it'll be worth every last byte.

I love it. Makes your car feel more special. :D
Meh. I preferred the “specialty” of being able to buy any JDM icon in GT Sport with zero mileage under the hood. In GT7 we’ll have to carry out maintenace in order to restore optimum performance on any car older than year 2001, and even then the odometer won’t reflect personal usage. I low-key hate the UCD for this, and in the process we get to spend more credits.
