One of the missions in "Moby Dick" is pretty much broken in terms of getting gold from what I've experienced so far.

It's the one with the Nissan GT500 at Fuji, you've got to pass Honda GT500 & the Porsche GTE before the chicane and it's more or less impossible thanks to a combination of dopey on-rails AI and hyper sensitive no-contact (not ever slight rubs) rule.

One of the following will happen each time at the chicane causing a fail:

  • NSX will decide to turn into you on entry
  • NSX will decide to bump you from behind
  • Porsche will decide to turn into you
  • Porsche decides it wants to fight you back into the left-hander then run you wide
  • NSX decides to PIT manoeuvre you
  • Porsche decides to move across and door you
  • Either Porsche and/or NSX will decide to send it into the uphill right-hander

I doubt they'll patch this either.

I don't think you mean the same thing as I do when you say grinding. You seem to see anything that's repetitive as grinding, and the fact that you put "grind/work" as if they're synonyms sort of reinforces that.

You say you're not one to question how people play and enjoy, but you seem to have omitted that I've been calling for changes that would leave "traditional" grinding as an option for those who like it but would add other ways to make money at endgame at a reasonable rate for the people who would prefer something else. Should those people get to play in a way they find fun, or should they just be told that "grinding is not a big deal"?
Man some of you get seriously so deep into these video games. Anyone playing the game they payed for can enjoy it the way they want. People were talking about grinding and I said to me it’s not a big issue… Again how long do you play these games for? After at least what a month a game is pretty much played through? I don’t know what game you play and you don’t grind in like seriously I mean i hear all my friends say this and it’s any game not just GT. I was watching Ollie YouTube channel and it’s labeled as “The grind continues loving the grind on GT7” I mean this is GT how are people shocked about grinding to get things they really want? I’m slowly grinding to get these two Ferraris and I enjoy it as some might hate it… it’s no big deal to me. And yes where I am from grinding hard and working hard pretty much means the same thing.

I guess we all need to understand that grinding for credit = seat time in a car/ on a track.
Which is what real drivers do to get better at driving. Same with tunes/ setups, its all about the minor tweaks to get the most out of your car.

Not much fun when everyone is driving with the same car, suspension set up and gearbox.
Exactly.. I will do an event 3 4 times with different cars in the class just to see how they perform against each other. It fun I get a feel for different cars and I get money while I do it.. It’s all good with me, and I’m cool with the person who doesn’t like that grind… my thing was this is GT how can one be extremely shocked and the game hasn’t even been out in a week yet sheesh..

Having the game start you 30 seconds behind the leader is a cheap way of making things difficult. Why not have better AI that actually races you? I want a race, not a parade.
The funny thing is the AI will race you perfectly well in standing start races (custom or in career), I think its the best AI we've had in ages - PD just has a fascination with making people do the chase the rabbit technique in career that plays to all its weaknesses and absolutely none of its strengths.

Holy Smokes! GR3 race at Suzuka and there were 3 yellow flags.

I received a 3 second penalty for ignoring the 3rd one. It cost me 5 places and I finished 12th.

Loved it!

As much as I love the Corvette may not be the right car for this

Alright, I finished the World Touring Car Championship 600 and the AMG Book. For the WTCC 600 though, I only got 3rd place to make it happen with my Honda Civic TC (the only actual Touring Car in the race).

For anyone in this forum that won the event, what is a good car & tune to win with? I would like to go back at some point and actually win that race.

What does grinding actually mean to you? Because if you think this is true, then you're using the word very, very differently to the way that I mean it.

There's lot of definitions out there, but most of them are variations on "Grinding = repeating trivial already mastered content for resources required in order to continue to progress the game". Basically if something offers no challenge and you're just doing it so that you can do something in another part of the game, it's probably grinding.

Story based progression games don't have grind because you're constantly working through the story. Well designed experience based progression games don't require grind, they have new content for you to play instead of repeating already mastered content. If a game has 200 hours of content before it starts requiring repeating but most players stop before 100 hours, then very few players are even going to see the grind.

Any experience based system without methods of content generation will eventually lead to "grinding" if you push it far enough, but even then there's a difference between there being one optimal method of grinding and there being multiple ways to play and receive similar rewards. But the idea is to delay the point as long as possible, and make it as palatable to as many players as possible when you get there.

GT5 1.01 was a particularly egregious example, grinding started being required about level 23 if I recall and unless you were grinding the highest unlocked races you were really crippling yourself. That just didn't need to happen.

If you're grinding in every single game you play it's because you like grinding and are specifically buying games that offer grind based gameplay, not because every single game out there is grind based. Just because a game has repetitive elements does not mean that they're automatically grinding. Every game has repetitive elements, that's the whole concept of a core gameplay loop.
Welp, I accidentally all the license tests with a controller. Now what?

I also had issues with this mission, i watched some YouTube video's and they got gold with a worse time. When i played the Porsche and NSX would go side to side in the chicane with no room for an overtake. But in the video's the Porsche would cut a bit over the curb and leave room. After trying for a long time I restarted the game and the Porsche would leave enough room to pass. after that it was careful following the 2nd car as it brakes when going on the straight. Then get in his slipstream and try to overtake at the same time it is passing the first car. If the 2nd car doesn't attempt a overtake try restarting again. After that it took me a couple more tries.

Just noticed something interesting in the licensor credits... in GT Sport, the credits for RUF namedropped the CTR3, since of course it was the only one in the game. In GT7, it now says CTR3, RGT 4.2, and Yellowbird.

I did consider that they're just licencing the names of the cars mentioned in the museum, but RUF's museum namedrops the SCR, BTRs, Dakara, RGT-8, RT12, and so on. Seems like the licensor credits are only for cars that are in the game, or might be coming.

They wouldn't be happy to find out that I just spent 20 minutes trying to pass the "passing in a mixed racing class 2" mission on St. Croix. What the hell is this Audi Gr3 nonsense on roller skates with zero downforce? Why can it not turn with throttle, why can it not turn without throttle, why can it not turn without speed, why can it not turn with speed, why can it not brake and turn at the same time, and why does it turn slower than a Gr4 car? What on earth is this monstrosity? Good god, I hope that wasn't my introduction to GT7 Gr3 otherwise I'm just avoiding that altogether.

Edit: Apparently that was an R8 LMS Evo. Well, it was trash, and it was harder to drive than the 917 on a wet Spa lol.

If you do the first two corners properly you are already past the NSX and Porsche going into the chicane - in my attempt I was alongside the Porsche at just before the 100m mark, and with the insane grip and brakes the car has you easily out-brake them and can slide right past - I can upload it to YouTube if you'd like.

You can probably get past them even quicker than that, but I messed up the second turn.

Regardless, I would focus on nailing the run-up if you're getting stuck at them on the chicane, rather than worrying about their behaviour during it, as you can just skip that concern entirely.

VW Scirocco R '10 with intermediate tires.

There's a bug, with the Bug, in the livery editor. I made a livery for it a couple days ago, then went back to add to it, and all the decals disappear. Recreated the livery again yesterday, then checked it again today, same thing. All decals disappear.

I've editted other cars without issue, so don't think it's something I'm doing, or not doing.

Buddy I'm telling you, it doesn't trail brake into corners worth a damn, it won't coast through the apex without spinning out off-throttle, and it has marginal grip to accelerate without spinning on exit. The downforce never builds like you think it will because it'll also spin out in a 140 mph corner. In steady-state cornering the Gr4 cars were faster. It was maddening how terrible the tires were. I'm using gamepad and I had to ride a knife's edge just to make it to the end and it wasn't even a full lap. The hardest part about the 917 test was finding and staying on the dry line. The hardest part about the R8 LMS Evo mission was simply getting to the next corner.

I gotta try it! might be a little different for me, I’m on a wheel but you got me cracking up 😂

I've been playing this game since Friday and I have still yet to see the '89 300ZX in the UCD. How much longer will I have to wait?! I'll do a menu book or two, a few mission challenges, then complete a full set of licenses and still nothing. And that has been my routine everyday. Once I get that, I'll be grinding to get my preferred Gr3 cars but I just don't know when that will be.
I think it changes every 24hrs, the same time your daily mileage resets. Generally a couple of cars move to last day 'limited stock', a couple move to 'sold out' for a day, and a couple of new ones arrive to replace the prior sold out ones. Still not yet worked out how long each car actually stays available. It'll be a long while before some stuff shows up. Same for legend cars, though the time they hang around feels shorter so far and there's always one car limited stock and one sold out.
The only way the menu books affect it is by adding a couple extra cars that you require for the current book.

That's great to know. Thanks because now I can sit back and just wait instead of being in a rush to progress some sort of alternate timeline. While you're here, would you happen to know if Circuit Experience pays out well?

Anyone having issues with hangups sometimes when you just finish the race, before the animation of your driver raising his hand and getting a trophy? It happened to me 4 times already. What happens is you are booted back to the main menu and then you stare at a black screen fro like 30+ seconds AND the race you just completed is nullified, as if you never played it. I mean if its a 2 lap race, whatever, but imagine if its some hardcore grind for gold and it doesnt get counted. Basically it says the connection dropped but it only drops once on a million when you finish the race.

I took a look at the popular tags for everything out of curiosity since I never did that before. Funny, and interesting, that I found myself "oldbusanubis" on the popular tags list for decals. Thing is my decals aren't really 'popular' per se. So I wonder what criteria do the popular tags go by?

Thanks. Um, did you do anything with the suspension settings, transmission, or anything like that?
I was afraid you would ask that 😂
When i buy a car that i'm going to race with right away,i head to GT Auto - custom parts and change the front end -rear -side and wing. I don't know if it changes the aero-dynamics but it just looks alot better for my liking.

Then over to the Tuning Shop,i did the following and i might add it's not cheap to do everything but it's fun!
  • Sports suspension
  • Full control computer
-Racing - intercooler - air filter - muffler - exhaust manifold - brake pads - Clutch & Flywheel
  • Bore up
  • Engine balance
  • polish ports
  • high lift cam shaft
  • racing crank shaft
  • weight reduction stage 3

The car is a beast 🏎️
