Gran Turismo 7 PS5 Pro Update: 8K Graphics, Real-Time Ray-Tracing On Track

According to DF's previous analysis, in frame-rate mode with VRR enabled on compatible TVs, it reaches around 80-90 fps during replays, but that's at a resolution of 1440p. In resolution mode at 4K with VRR on a standard PS5, frame rates reach around 50 fps.

The resolution option in VRR is even more interesting. On the surface, performance seems disappointing with typical gameplay frame-rates in the 70-100fps region, while replays hit the 50s regularly. However, that's because the game is rendering at a full 4K here, providing a seemingly identical presentation to the game in its 60Hz mode. Image quality is typically very nice and sharp, with a bit of aliasing on certain edges but otherwise looking very good on the whole.
i meant it during gameplay and yes during replays it is in 50s because of ray tracing

Sony said it was supposed to be delivered on release day, today. Guess not!
ps5 pro not on release day.jpg

...if we get in-game ray tracing, get rid of those nasty pop-ins and increase some LOD distance it would be good use of the system's power. Expecting to receive my console today (+drive!), hopefully I get enough time to transfer data + test...

Pro has arrived currently in setup will report back this evening. Still got to do data transfer, disc drive and m2. Smart looking thing with the stand on though.
Cant transfer from M2 to PS5Pro, either swap it into the Pro, or move all data from M2 to PS5 integrated storage and then to PS5Pro (which definitly is slower).
Though I cant say if simply swapping M2 into the Pro does work (I think it should), or if it does need to initialize (shouldnt be the case).

I almost broke my disc drive, but fortunatly it still works.

Don't worry I know that bit it's on the side ready to plug in should give me 3tb total 😁

Edit: also tip, if you've switched the beep off on your old one, switch it back on before trying data transfer. It asks you to hold the power button for 1 second until you hear a beep, of course you've switched it off, oversight there.

Edit 2: saw GT7 come alive and got really excited then realised I couldn't play it yet because I haven't got the disc drive latched on yet. Doh!

If you have HDMI 2.0 TV you get this info:
when displaying 4k HDR content at 60HZ, the colour format will be YUV422 or YUV420 instead of RGB due to HDMI 2.0 transfer speed limitations. Not that I care I am using the PSVR2.

I should have done a console transfer but cant be bothered now. the PS store is doing slow download of GT7 must be very busy.
4hour install its 125.4GB if thats the usual amount.
Will see if music rally minigame is in VR.

In a review I heard somewhere you should install the M.2 from PS5 into PS5 pro before turning it on first and doing data transfer or else it'll try to download the stuff from cloud.. or something, instead of just using the games form M.2.

Now UPS says I'll get mine today. Wondering if I should install optical drive before or after setup/ power on? Hmm..

I haven't had anything like that yet but will let you know if it happens. As for the drive I decided to leave it until the transfer was done then do m2 and drive at once.

Wait a minute. Are they saying that, without a patch enabling PSSR and enhanced ray tracing cores, GT7 in resolution mode at 4K during replays with ray tracing activated reaches 120fps with occasional drops, instead of the 50fps achieved on PS5?

That's an improvement of over 100%, not the 45% indicated in the technical specifications.

In any case, if 4K at 120fps with ray tracing is attainable, it suggests there's significant untapped potential. It would be beneficial if the quality mode in the patch not only introduced ray-traced reflections during races but also implemented ray-traced ambient occlusion and, notably, ray-traced shadows. This could address the noticeable shadow cascade popping present in the game. Additionally, adjusting the LOD transition thresholds to occur at greater distances would make these changes less perceptible.
A small correction, when using VRR + 120hz in Resolution mode, the replays disable RT. Since the game isn't patched for the Pro yet, it's likely the 120fps replays in Resolution mode are achieved without RT.

Regardless, it's one of the biggest performance jumps for an un-patched game and maybe suggests the main bottleneck on PS5 replays is not raw GPU power (since that's a theoretical maximum of 67% improvement for non-RT). If I had to guess bandwidth is the culprit as all other specs are more or less the same with the Pro.

Ok VR in Music rally looks nice and smooth, is it extra smooth, could be. What I think most stood out after looking is the mirror in the 1956 GT Carrera looks higher resolution and high frame rate, it actually looks like an optical mirror now compared to a slow digital lego animation. slight mirror pop out objects still happen a bit as they dissappear.
So perhaps the mirrors in GT are frame unlocked and dynamic res.

Nice! Tell us more :) Maybe it runs at 100% native PSVR2 Resolution now....

Mine.

But I will need to reconfigure my gaming area before using it and I also need to finish sanding and lacquering a table top before I can play. Well update, update, and transfer content so probably no play today anyway....

Anyone got there's yet? Should have read the thread first.

Tried all 3 cars and tracks now. The mirrors are to die for. Central rear and the wing mirrors fantastic. its actually an upgrade I wanted.
Now more subjectively I feel less input lag on the steering or the perception of it from I think higher frames or less dropped frames, something anyway, feels smoother when going sideways on the corners at Trial Mountain.
Very hopeful for the power patch, I want to see some raytracing if possible in VR.
For fun I tried racing jammed up next to 1989 MX5 and looking in the drivers mirrors to see what "they" can see lol. Not so much, this would be good upgrade to to see your car reflected.
Oh and there is no VR replay in music rally so cant try that yet.

Nice. Mine is out for delivery now, tracking updated after I called and asked UPS what's going on.
Should be able to get it set up and tested out but not till later this evening. Mine won't even be delivered till 4 - 7 pm EST.

I wonder if there's no more reprojection or something like that?
