Yeah, thinking about it I tend to agree,I just started GT3 again recently,I wonder how they will implement used cars though,500-600 doesn't seem enough, well to me.
500-600 is enough.... the GT3 approach is the one that won't be enough with only under 200 cars.

I would honestly say that GT7 could launch with at least 650 cars, and at most, being very optimistic, although quite unlikely at launch, 750 cars.

Plus with the DLC cars through updates, this number would swell into a pretty large one.

I just hope they release more information very soon and reveal even more cars and tracks.

500 at launch and 650-700 after 2 years DLC is more realistic

This is still a guess, but don't you feel it that, you find it unexpected that GT7 even shows up at the very first premiere of PS5? Just GT7 showing up.... with some real game footages like the map menu (not only informations about how the game will be without the game display).... is far cry from PD in the past so far. Driveclub was a totally different game (i mean its arcade) but it got enough time to fill the void for ps4 exclusive racing before GT Sport was even revealed, and even then there was still delays on their release.

Can this probably mean PD's work is significantly faster to have GT7 appear at the first place, and would mean GT7 can be released with huge number of content at launch? (I wonder if GTS' lack of content was solely because of online focus that they only intentionally put contents related to it, or because they don't have enough time to put them all). Where the assumptions of having GT2/GT4 number of cars become more plausible this time?

All this talk of car numbers is pretty silly. Numbers mean nothing, as the "1200" cars of GT6 proves.

I want to see quality, relevant and diverse cars. Manage that, and you wouldn't worry about the overall number. What you would notice is if they went back to their old habits of 50 Skylines, 33 Miatas and so on to pad it out.

I agree, we might have had 500-600 cars in the past, but versions of the MX-5 and Skyline accounted for dozens or even hundreds of them..

Also back then we didn't get updates.

I can see launch being < 400 cars and more added along the way.

Looking forward to this when it drops.I wonder if we will still be able to customise the controls,im still one of the old fashioned`x` for accel, etc brigade.
Not too sure about the `sarah`thing though.:)

How on earth do you manage that with digital on/off face buttons?!

I'd expect about 500 cars at launch. However I do wonder if we'll get content updates in the same capacity as GT Sport.
He continues: “I think nowadays we are no longer in the era where you hold on to the new cars and tracks that you create for the next title, and you save it all for your release. I don’t think we work that way any more. Now it is sort of like being on Spotify or the iTunes Store; I think it is more natural to have new additional cars and tracks added to the store as they are ready to go.”

I think PD intend to turn GT7 into a generation long service where new cars and tracks are added as they are completed.

The one they actually worked on, there are only 1 Premium Skylines or 2 Premium MX-5 (NA), no duplicates for Premiums. They just put in every single car in previous games as bonus, but worked on 447 Premiums, 152 Semi-Premiums.

I don't know so you should add only 1 cars with similar hp? (only add 1 with 276 hp because most have similar performances).

You really can't get on with the triggers?

I could, and it's not that I don't like it (I am a bit old school though), it's the abuse my hands got from gaming in my teens makes it very painful to do so. They still hurt but less so with traditional mapping. I do use the triggers for shifting so the difference is whether I want to play for a few hours or 20 minutes.

I Wonder what they'll do with those low kerbs on the straights. Its 99% sure that these low curbs will not be there alone.
Will there be big walls? Or invisible walls again?
I like it like it is, but Polys will do something with it.

Less than 400 would be a big joke.

Not everyone can reach the triggers for one reason for another, y'know. Especially disabled people like me. So when Sony added the system-wide ability to remap buttons and triggers on the DS4, it was a huge boon for me, giving me access to a lot of games where heavy trigger pressing is required.

I hope this is still on the PS5, then.

Thinking of it this way, I can see a massive car list forming over the next few years. The game as a service model could allow for a gigantic library of cars that outnumbers GT6. Just imagine 1200 fully modelled PS5 quality cars...

Indeed. Any bragging to be done about GT Sport's numbers would be disingenuous as well, given the amount of cars that effectively arent used or can't be raced against each other.

I have issues with my fingers due to illness,i cant quite use the triggers with much `finess`so easier for me to use the old school way.Probably why im not that fast ,i have tried using the triggers for accel/brake but cant get on with them,i use them for up/down the gears.

I really hope it will be possible to completely change the button layout too.
Since GT5, i'm used to this:
Throttle on right stick UP and brake on R2. Its great even with ABS off. I will not be able to learn how to use both triggers :))

That, and the fact that the most of the car (and some circuit) models were just reused PS2 assets, as PD ran out of time to remodel them all in HD. Call me superficial, but that really put me off GT5 & 6. Thankfully though I can't see Polyphony running into that problem ever again. We've reached a point now in gaming where graphical changes between generations are minimal - meaning developers no longer have to bleed time away remodelling everything.

As with previous GT games, I think focus on car count is pointless. A more diverse and specific car list is far more important. There are a lot of base models in GTS, where 9/10 times, who cares? Everybody "wants" to drive the Z06, V12 Vantage, 675LT, etc etc. Conversely, don't put in a car like the P1 GTR and not the road car. The majority of cars (not race cars) should have some significance.

For race cars, I really dislike it when there are only a 1-2 cars from a specific series so you really can't do a specific class race. Unless it's a really special car, don't include some random car from an iconic series on not do (or plan on doing) the rest.

You'd be surprised. I've always loved Gran Turismo's inclusion of seemingly mundane, run of the mill, mass-market cars. Call me crazy, but I genuinely find a Ford Fiesta as interesting as a Ferrari 488, for example. It makes no sense to try comparing them, or to call one better than the other, as they were both designed for completely different purposes.

As for the reason these base cars should be included in racing games, if they weren't designed to be fast around a circuit - it's fun to tune them up and make them fast around a circuit. I've actually set myself a goal of trying to win the SSR11 Enduro race in GT3, using a tuned Toyota AE86, even though that race is fielded by the likes of the GT-One TS020. Because that sounds like fun to me. I'm sad, I know! :D

(And also a potential masochist, since I won't let myself use turbos. It's like I want to suffer.)
