Why is it such a big deal for people if it takes them months to earn every single car? It's a racing game- why don't people do what it's designed for and put things into perspective a bit?
I'm unable to get every single car in FH5 either because they're too expensive in the auction house or are not available. But I still play it and enjoy it. Don't people have access to hundreds of other cars in GT7 leaving aside the likes of 250 GTO, XJ13, 330 P4 etc?
Surely to goodness they can't already be 'bored' of them ffs?

I Find it strange that the big YouTubes or media wont talk about it……
I was just watching Kie's stream today and it's practically all that was being discussed as he did offline laps against the AI. The stream was full of other streamers and top-tier drivers speaking out against PD from what I can tell.

If Gran Turismo really wanted to do microtransactions then here's a better way they should have gone about it instead of crippling in-game economy and progression with the added bonus of p*ssing off the entire fanbase:

1 - Create a separate sub-currency for microtransactions which is separate to Cr. and has no impact on car purchases, performance effecting mods or game progression.

2 - Keep currently available manufacturer paints + gloss, metallic and matte paints as they are. Take the other more specialised paints (chrome, satin, matte metallic, reflex, flou, flakes, etc) and treat those as other games treat shaders and you put those behind the sub-currency.

3 - Keep the current bodywork parts and widebody kits as they are, add to them till there's every "tier" covered for each car with those "basic" kits. After that, additional bodywork parts and widebody kits added to the game will have the identical effects on performance as the "basic" kits, but, because they're effectively "ornaments" = you put those behind the sub-currency.

4 - Do the same with non-performance affecting parts that are added in future to "wheels", "others" (light colours, etc) and "racing items".

5 - Leave livery, suit and helmet creations exactly how it currently is outside of changes to paints.

6 - Create ways for players to earn that sub-currency for free which aren't a monumentally time consuming grind (Bungie does this well with Bright Dust in the weekly and seasonal challenges in Destiny 2).

In a nutshell, anything that's a purely cosmetic modification is what should be used for microtransaction economy behind a separate sub-currency and not things that have a direct effect on gameplay, that way you don't p*ss the entire fanbase off. Those who care that much about cosmetics will bite on the sub-currency as long as the rest of the game keeps players coming back and online is sufficient (which it isn't currently).

It doesn't take an entire brain-trust paid for by a publicly traded company to figure this out. . .
if i want a (full priced) game with a lot of MTX i grab my smartphone.

end of the story!

edit: and that means all cosmetic stuff either!

Aggreged, makes sense to me, guess they need to give shareholders some gravy so shiny bits only get the MTX treatment please 👍👌

Thanks for the article! Let’s hope PD takes notice and acts accordingly. And no. PD, we don’t just want pre-1.07 payouts, they were already bad! Instead of nerfing the best payouts, increase all the payouts! And make custom races a viable option as well. I would love to set up 5, 10 or 20 lap endurance races with the cars I love to drive, but the reward vs effort is absolutely pathetic. Fisherman’s Reach was about 1.7 mill/hour. I would personally be satisfied with anything around 1.5 to 2 mill/hour from ALL the races in the game, not just Fisherman’s.

Please stop with these false equivalencies.

As much as I hate to admit it (because I've also said it doesn't have an economy either  ), FH5 has a bustling economy in comparison to GT7. You can make money tuning, painting, selling cars in the auction house, and reselling duplicates back to the dealer. Amazing detail, that. Surprised it's never been in a GT game before. Oh, that's right, it has but isn't a feature this time around because...reasons, I guess?

Anyway, no one is talking about playing the game for months to acquire every single car. I've literally never seen one single person here claim that. What I have seen is that it could take that same amount of time -- joking or otherwise -- to acquire one (1!) of the more expensive cars because GT7 doesn't have an actual economy because it's designed to push you toward purchasing credits. Running the race multiple times over because you have no other choice is an order of magnitude different than running the same race multiple times over because you want to.

Also, FH5 throws money, cars, clothing, emotes, taunts, sneakers, etc, etc at you like they're going out of style.

I got burned hard by GT5 when it came out, so much that I did not touch any GT game since. I have a PS5 on order with GT7, because I though GT7 will be my reintroduction back into GT. But hearing that the so called "career mode" is quite short, there are no offline saves and now this server outage, is making my rethink about my order. Am I over reacting or shall I cancel my ps5 order, and wait till GT7 is expanded upon two years down the line?

You do realise that there is quite a huge middle ground between "everything right away" and spend north of 14 hours grindind the same race, over and over again, in order to earn enough credits to get one, just one, of the dozens of high value cars available in the game?

Long time lurker. First time poster.

Some of the comments in this thread have actually encouraged me to sign up and have a say.

The servers being down sucks. I want to play the game.

I’ll be patient, though, and I know they’ll be up in no time. Even if it’s 24 hours time, who cares. I’ll do something else in the meantime. I’ll get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of this game over the next couple of years. So if the servers are out for a day, I’ll not sweat it.

I don’t understand the backlash over micro transactions or lack of credits.
I’ve not really experienced a crippling lack of in game money for me to be able to progress as I would like.

I don’t mind doing a few races to pay for a few upgrades here and there. Seems fair to me. If everything was essentially unlocked and you could play for 20 mins for 1,000,000 credits, I fail to see the point. It’s meant to be a slow burner that has longevity.

What I do see is the human condition of everyone wanting everything right now because they feel they are entitled to it in some way.

I’ve made more money from doing Mini race at Alsace than it has cost me buying and tuning the car. I’m enjoying trying to improve my times, trying to come first, being competitive, etc.
If I have my fill of that, I’ll move on to a mission or a license test and try my hand there, or go for the next menu book.

The joy of this game isn’t grinding for money. It’s about driving. It’s a slow burn. It’s not easy, nor is it supposed to be. It’s about being appreciative of the cars in the game and how they drive etc. I genuinely feel senses of accomplishment when I better my time on a circuit or beat a challenge that I’ve been a bit stuck on, or manage to scrape a win on the final corner at Alsace and get my driver ranking up to A.

What’s the rush to complete it?!
The only thing that irks me very slightly is not being able to sell cars. And the only reason is because I legitimately don’t like some of them in real life.

Once the game has matured a bit in a couple of months, it’s going to be killer. It already IS killer in my book. I adore it. I won’t buy in game credits with micro transactions, but nor do I feel like I am being forced to.

If you play the game organically without any set goal, and realise that this is a game for the long run, I don’t think there are any issues.
Just dive in to do what you want.

I’ll agree that car customisation can get costly, but where’s the fun or sense of achievement if I can go and buy the most exclusive vehicles in the game after a fortnight of playing?!

Works perfectly in Destiny 2, I've been playing that sporadically since 2018 and never once paid for MTX because it doesn't impact my progression, but, at the same time a good majority of players I come across are sporting ornaments and shaders you can only get via MTX. Also, a sizeable chunk of those end up becoming available for free 2 years down the line anyway.

It's not hard to do with using special paints, wheels, body kits and parts which don't effect performance.

While everyone is losing their minds about the game economy, I’m personally wondering just how bad of a bug did they find that caused this huge downtime?

Like are they straight up rebuilding code or something? I doubt it has anything to do with MTX and race payouts because those are quick adjustments.

PD's big fear will be everyone disengaging if there's nothing left to collect...

If they bring back all the availability for the private servers that we had in GTS then there would be little reason for people to drop the game after they earn everything.

But that is an opinion coming from the multiplayer/league racing side of things. The people who run leagues have gotten the shaft with lobbies as of yet. We are hoping that issue gets resolved otherwise we are forced to stay in GTS or let our leagues disappear.

But in overall i also have to say I’m a bit disappointed with PD. I still don’t think the lowering of the rewards must have something to do with getting people to buy the MTs, more with the vision of PD for the economy of the game so that purchasing special cars also will feel very special to the gamer. But what I don’t understand is the relatively short single player campaign right now then, the total absence of races to use these special cars, the absence of endurance races and all this stuff. I‘m sure there is a plan behind all of this with more content going to come, and I respect the different approach they try to take, but it’s just not good communication and i can understand that some people don’t feel treated very well then. Even when you plan to give a steady stream of content after launch, you have a) communicate this in a right way before and b) still give a good amount of content right at launch that at least can hold up to the predecessor (right now in terms of actual races I would say that GTS had a longer campaign, which is sad).
I really don’t understand why there isn’t more, it can’t be because of lack of resources or time (or Corona) and I can’t imagine that they didn’t realized that this will disappoint people, especially when you look at how it got advertised before.

Absolutely no surprise that people are still defending PD and their "economy" and drive for MTs after this move. Some will clearly defend literally anything.

You want a game to last for years do you? Well good, because that's what you've got.

We don't know the price for all cars yet, but it's currently at 277 million with 64 to go, many of which we know are going to be pricey. Let's be conservative and say the final total is 320 Million. But you're also going to want to upgrade those cars, take advantage of the excellent upgrade system. If we put that at a conservative 100K per car, that's another 42 million. So that's a total of 362 million credits to own all the cars and make good use of them, have fun with them.

We've just been told that the FASTEST method of earning credits has now been nerfed to 850,000 per hour. So if you do that, repeating the same race over and over to earn credits, it will take you....425 hours total to earn enough credits. 425 hours of the same single race. If you did that for four hours a day, every day (because you're some sort of masochist) that's three months of your life, gone, driving around the same race track so you can buy some other cars. No time to do anything else.

If you are less of a masochist and only do it an hour a day, that's over a year.

That's insane. So what if you don't want to do that, what if you decide to do a variety of races, like custom races. Well before this patch the best rate for those was around 200,000 per hour. 1,600 hours total. So, do custom races for four hours a day, every day, and you'll have enough credits in......400 days.

Most people are not going to play the same game every day, without missing one, for four hours though. So what if they manage a pretty reasonable 10 hours a week? That's still going to take over 3 years. 10 hours, every week, for three years. At which point you can FINALLY just have fun with the cars that came with the game.

Sport Mode and Online? Even slower.

"Just drive" they say. "Just go race, it's meant to last for a while". Yeah, no. This is absurd. And remember, that is me being conserative with the totals required. It may be even more. Not to mention the cost of any cars they add in updates.

The numbers boggle the mind.

Just think, if so many huge car racing nuts have no interest in doing this, so many big fans here don't, the biggest "celebrity" players don't, then who on earth will? The casual millions are going to get bored and lose interest even faster. So who is left playing the game? The PD defenders, who will do anything.

EDIT:

And let's not even get into the fact PD have made two patches for this game and both were broken. The first one broke a load of stuff in the game, the second one is seemingly so poorly tested that it's broken the entire system for over 12 hours.

As you can see Ryan, Samus absolutely smashed it with his post
