"GTP: The competition aspect of Gran Turismo Sport is exciting, but many long-time fans of the series are worried about the more traditional, classic parts of the game. Can you reassure them that will still be part of GT Sport?
KY: Gran Turismo Sport is actually going to contain more features than any other game in the series to date. Nothing has been dropped, things have only been added. Whether it be the campaign mode, or the offline gameplay, or the open lobbies, everthing has been raised in quality and there is more of it, so there is nothing to worry about. Nothing has been dropped.

The closed beta is really just one snippet of the whole Gran Turismo Sport experience. It’s just one part of it, and it’s also the most stressful part of the experience, so it’s important that we have the support of the community to help test it out."

*I don't think I'm reading too far into this - looks like we can plan on there being some offline racing that goes towards currency collection. We'll see though, I suppose, but it looks pretty clear.

Sorry, but I'm going to wait and see what the game is like after it releases instead of relying on Kaz's word.

This will be the first GT game I don't buy right away. It's going to be a strange feeling, to say the least.

It still says literally nothing about the context of the discussion, other than that things are there. We don't know what they're counting, and they also aren't saying anything. I'll just go along with what is actually shown, and if it changes for the better, than awesome. Either way, we definitely do know some things got dropped, a lot of what made GT GT got dropped.

What about dynamic lighting and weather?

lmao, was thinking the same. But then I remembered Kaz talking about the trade off between dynamic and quality and how they were striving for better quality this time. The fog effects with volumetric lighting will be pretty taxing and looks awesome.

I understand your point. Like we said though, a currency system in an online only environment doesn't make much sense.

The way I see it in that article is that they're talking about it in comparison of past titles to current, not from the delay of the initial game to now. Currency being there or not has little relevance of the actual campaign mode, in my opinion. Currancy has been known since as long as we've known about pre orders, as far as I can remember, and that didn't change any aspect of the revealed "Story" mode.

I'm aware that currency has been known since pre-order announcement and agree that they're talking about the comparison of past titles to current, but we were discussing how the currency system doesn't make much sense in an online only environment. So the existence of a single player campaign and offline racing makes more sense in terms of utilizing a currency system. And he said that classic GT is still there.

But come launch, I do hope that you'll be pleasantly surprised

Has there been any information on how the safety cars will work?

1. Just the formation lap, or is there a possiblility of someone crashing out of the race and causing a safety car?
2. Will it be AI-controlled only, or can players drive it as well?

Thats awesome, even though I can't recognize the location of it, its so good to see my home country represented. Been waiting on it since DiRT 2 days.

Edit: tried to find it, and mountain appears to be Biokovo, with track set somewhere near town of Baska Voda.

Is it possible the track is based off an older Croatia track in Preluk, Opatija?

Click on "Preluk" and you will see the map, it's somewhat similar.

Happy to see Croatia represented though, Hrvatska!

Are the cars we unlock in the beta going to travel over to the full game or will we have to do it all again?

Are cars from previous days that you didn't play not unlockable any more or is it just random based on what you've already got?

I seem to be getting a lot of GR.3/4 cars and no road cars.

KY: Three years ago, we basically reset all the car models in the game, to start building them from scratch. Now, the models have been created at a quality that will last for ten years from this point on
The level of precision we’ve achieved [in GT5] is actually more suited to the next generation of machines.
The detail that goes into a premium model [has] gone beyond the level of the current PlayStation.

Just to continue the conversation of currency for a minute, I noticed something quite interesting at the very start of the ISR video.

He has just completed a Single Race at Tokyo.
And he earns 11,100 "Reward Credits".

So, credit earning in Arcade for GTSport.
At least, it looks that way to me.

...Wowsers. The Bug VGT only weighs 2100+ pounds?! It must have gone through some serious digital diet regime.... But man, that website is pretty damn cool.

Looks like we can let out a big sigh of relief.

If it really has more features than ever, and this is just a fraction of the game, i have a whole new hope for the final game again.

That bit of the interview is actually huge. That, or i'm being misled by my expectations for a nice campaign mode and proper car roster.

When will people learn?

Oh don't forget, GTS "COULD" get up to 500 cars through DLC - Kaz.

What does that mean? Nobody has a clue, does that mean everything from GT1-GT6 will be in this game? Of course not because all it is marketing mumble jumble it could mean anything. I'm sure everyone is going to tell me EXACTLY what means without having a clue
Kaz has become a master of selling wolf tickets.

That's because of the BoP to get it into Gr.1. Power has been pegged way, way back from 1,650hp down to 641hp. Having a heavy AWD system and W16 wouldn't get the unhandicapped version down to 980kg.

Well, as a real world example, Bentley took a 2300+kg road car and made it into a 1300kg GT3 racer, so in terms of weight reduction that's not that far off, and Bentley had to adhere to a lot more restrictions than they have to for a made-up VGT car.

Now, if you consider that the base car for this Gr.1 modification is basically fictitious to begin with, bringing the weight down below 1000kg for the Bugatti sounds credible, if the base car was already built with all imaginable light weight technology imaginable.
