Well, I'm going to poke at the news thing one more time to see if there is any. The rest of you can argue about this beta build all you want, but I'm gonna fire up GT6 and hit the freaking NURB!! :D
Ditto, but I'll fire up GT4 đź‘Ť

I do wonder though, where are the photos and videos from todays event? Anybody?

Well, one more little tidbit from Dualshockers:

We also learned that the folks at Polyphony Digital are iterating very fast, and are pushing out new builds all the time.

For instance, the build that was available at the event yesterday night was an earlier build compared to the new one that is being aired today. “huge improvements” are being made.

That said, the game was already running at full 60 frames per second at today’s event, with frame rate and performance that definitely looked nice and stable.

On top of that, we also learned that the game’s professional difficulty is extremely challenging.

The car & 'scape' list may be growing but racing games have moved on since the arrival of Project Cars and Assetto Corsa. I hope they have totally overhauled the physics, sound etc cos judging by videos it just looks like a more glossy version of GT6,and it looks like taking pictures next to a grand canyon is more important than actual racing.

Well, one more little tidbit from Dualshockers:

6 month is a long time but this game has been in development for 2 and a half years at least (not counting GT6 assets)
so it is a bit weird that they're still working on and didn't show new tyre physics, damage, weather and sound.

Are they purposely with-holding information or releasing a dumbed down version to make the racing exciting or are they behind schedule.

Interesting to follow the Evolution of this game but this event didn't exactly fill me with confidence.

I'm sure @Jordan and anyone who attended might have a clearer view.

I may be able to help on this one, during the presentation this evening Kaz said the build was around 50% of the quality they are aiming for.
Which has a completely different meaning compared to what that spanish guy said. This one actually makes sense more or less.

Very difficult to read anything into that then but certainly puts the half way through development theme to bed.

I just don't like the word aiming that is used so much by Kaz/PD. Given the history I can't see Kaz reaching all his aims in such a short time.

Why can't he figure out what they can achieve first and then deliver instead of dreaming and then failing? Genuine query because it is clear his aim is wonky going by previous efforts.

It really is frustrating because there is greatness here being ruined by over ambition IMO.

Say goodbye to SRF folks, we now have brake/steering assist!

Having played it, I disagree .

Having played a number of betas (real ones not marketing ones) this was stable and played well.
Well Judging the reaction of several major sites, fans and gamers, which is really negative for a major gaming franchise, they have a lot to do in 6 months, and we all know PD works slowly.

Oh, forgot to mention. Did anyone notice the tires screaming? Past GT's have been the same. Way too much/too loud tires! They need to tone it down!!

There should probably be a rule of "don't read YouTube comments." People are talking like they are not going to buy GT SPORT if it has poor engine sounds, calling it "The Real Vacuum Simulator." Sound and racing have been the weak links of GT games for ages. However, do you mean to tell me that something like sound is a deciding factor of whether to care about this game or not? Even if the sounds suck, (no pun intended, since we're talking vacuums), does that mean you shouldn't care about GT SPORT if the game plays beautifully and offers an enjoyable gaming experience? It's okay to not like GT for its sounds, but let's not make certain elements outside of gameplay decide whether this game will eventually be great. And if the game does have pathetic sounds, does that mean the game going to pale in comparison to "Big Rigs Over the Road Racing?" Some things are much more important and deserve much more attention.

That was just a brief rant I wanted to make outside of my initial thoughts of GT SPORT. By the way, part of me wants to believe this is the Gran Turismo we've probably been waiting for and wanting for the lognest, even if it isn't Gran Turismo 7.

It would have interesting to see how much control it takes away from the player when braking/steering, I'd say.

Learning curve = HIGH! .. You must practice [at length] to perfect your skills now. The whole driving experience does feel a little bit slower [tyre model perhaps], but [IMHO] pedal precision and a much smoother accumulative steering angle that is far beyond GT6 capabilities is what will get you the perfect lap.

Big thanks to the GTP squad for obtaining this direct feed of the game. It is much better than the off-screen footage we've be seeing previously. From what I saw in this video, the graphics are definitely an improvement over GT6 but there are obviously some things that need work on like the shadows, flickering, and cameras. Overall, it's a decent step-up from the previous generation.

I would have preferred for the footage to be uploaded to GamerSyde but YouTube is better than nothing.

I just got back home after such a freaking great day... Whew I'm so tired and my feet are killing from all the driving I've been doing today, on and off the track :P
Just wanted to say a huge thanks to Tom (Brady? forgot last name sorry) for the very impressive commentary throughout and the DJs for playing some actually surprising bangers mixed in with some GT5/6 music. Pleasure to have met @Scaff, @Jordan and the big man himself, praise be upon Kaz :)
Will talk more about my impressions on the game in a bit. :gtpflag:

EDIT: Shoutout to the guys making that excellent food and the really nice bartender folk too!

Can I echo this. @Scaff your opinion on the game is something I know I can trust so any comment would be much appreciated.
OK. Here I go (and this is just about the physics - the rest can wait a few days as I've just got back after a good 2 1/2 hour drive).

I drove the following to get a good range of impressions:

  • MX-5
  • MX-5 Race Prep'd
  • VW Golf GTi
  • Lotus Evora
  • Renault RS.01
  • Aston Martin GT3
  • Pug 908
I stuck to Brands Hatch GP and the 'ring track wise as I know both well and in total got around 1.5 hours of seat time with around 10 to 15 laps of the Brands Hatch GP circuit in each. Of course zero driver aids for any of these.

First and most important, its a significant step forward from GT6 in all areas, the tyre model is far more progressive with break away better modeled. Suspension and weight transfer again improved and most noticeable of all the aero model has come along in a big way. When the aero's working you can get the power down and brake hard and feel the extra aero load providing more grip, just as when the aero load reduces as speed drops you then have to start being more careful.

Aero was the easiest to feel, as I moved from cars which should lift at speed (the MX-5) through the RS.01, the GT3 Aston to the 908 they all felt far more planted through the corners.

The MX5 around the 'ring was great fun, with the car moving around in a very convincing away and very adjustable.

Torque steer is all present and correct, and caught quite a few out at the start of a number of races I saw when waiting for pods to free up.

I was speaking to @SlipZtrEm via PM last night and both of us expressed concerns regarding the weird movement from the streams, this seems to be an issue with the code being used in the spectator mode, as its certainly has nothing to do with the actual handling of the cars and is not present at all in the replays from single player races or time trials.

Overall I'm impressed with what I experienced.
