I'm actually really enjoying this, its pretty insignificant to the problems of the world and life, but its a great distraction.

So with @Imari's new breadcrumb of information the end of April is as close as to what he can intepret as their end of deadline, this just leaves me with one question what the hell are we going to talk about for the next two months ...

About how bad PD are at meeting their objectives? #Selffulfillingprophecy :sly:

Unless they always meant a beta release closer to April 2016 (hence the particular wording of the Japanese site and the mention of "spring 2016" on the official PlayStation blog), in which case they may very well be on track with their release schedule.

The only people that know the actual release date is Kaz but knowing him; it'll be the delayed date jks.

But wouldn't this have referred to a different time span (in term of dates) as, if I understand correctly, Japanese consider the equinox as mid season and not start...

That was the point I was trying to make. Spring to the Japanese is not the same as "the start of the year" or anything even remotely similar that one could derive from what was actually written on the website. Spring in Japan is generally March to May or thereabouts. Like the west it can vary a bit depending on what definition they're using, but it's that general area.

If they wanted to say Jan-Apr, they would use 初旬 (or 上旬). If they wanted to say Mar-May, they would use 春. If they wanted May-Aug, they'd probably use 中旬. Or maybe 夏 for Jun-Aug.

It's hard for me to find information on how the term is used specifically with relation to years, but I don't see any sensible way it could stretch beyond April.

Maybe. Then again, it would be odd if you were to say "I'll come visit sometime today" if you knew that there was no chance of you getting there before mid-afternoon. You might as well just say "I'll be over in the afternoon".

Now, some people really are that sloppy with their language, but I'd argue that the people that write marketing blurb aren't. Especially with dates. There should have been a discussion at some point around exactly what date to put on that and how to word it such that Polyphony had the wiggle room that they require. Otherwise someone isn't doing their job right.

The fact that they used 初旬 instead of 春 might indicate that they thought that there was at least a possibility that they could be putting the beta out in January or February. If there was no chance for that and they were always aiming for April then they might as well choose a later date range so that if it slipped to May or June there wasn't drama.

They know as well as we do that sometimes software development doesn't hit targets. They're experienced developers, so they'll have given themselves at least a few weeks after when they actually thought that they'd finish the beta. I'd guess that they thought that they'd hit February or maybe early March. If I was developing I'd be happy aiming for a target date that broad from six months out.

Early year and late year. Do you want to continue arguing semantics or are you done?
Nope. Half way through the year could never be described as early or late. If it could within the space of one second you would go from early year to late year. Does that sound like a sensible way to operate? Are you done?

What is the possibility of F1 cars being in GTS considering the FIA licence?

I was pondering if the beta could coincide with the new season which starts on the 18th-20th March weekend.

This thread is amaizing. One question: what means ``early 2016´´?

Roughly translated it means: "Kaz is laughing at you".

The FIA licence throws up all sorts of possibilities. F1 definitely being one. However, Codies are already talking about community involvement in F1 2016 so looks like another game will be released from them this year so not sure we could see the 2016 season in GT Sport. Possibly some historic stuff could make an appearance.

F1 would be interesting...
Never played an F1 game since Geoff Crammond's Grand Prix on the Amiga

Also, must be a minefield releasing a videogame, let alone one that has to adhere to FIA regulations and whatnot...

The chances of F1 coming to GTS

I would however would like to see a Formula Gran Turismo successor

If an F1 makes it to the game it'll just be Vettel's Ferrari

All fair.

Probably not the thread for it, but are the Codies F1 games any good?

Now exscuse me guys if i butt in the discussion blatantly changing topic but more than "when will it come out" i'm more interested on the "how it will turn out?", once again you'll see this pic from aeons ago:

Tbqh almost everything on that list was added in the latest GT6 updates.
Now if you follow my reasoning, GT5 and 6 had lobbies, friend lists drift b spec and stuff. I've been puzzled on the fact that GT decided bring up "Sport" on its name. Call it a gimmick, or even a way to just keep fresh the ip there's at least a couple of things that would match with this list and the sudden change of name.
Team Builder as for its name suggests it, it looks like some GRID feature where you have to make yourself a name in grassroots motorsport, racing your way to the big leagues. Of course said option wouldn't be intriguing without creating a certain branding for your own team, that's why i think that said features will be likely on GTSport. Without too much wishful thinking: remember when in the past people that could read the codes in GT6 predicted number plates and windshield stickers? My guess is that they were actually trying to cram in GT6 the most in order to take back from there for further development. I do not want to create a hype train of any sorts, just thinking on what it would be useful in the modern economy of racing sim. One of the major hints to me is also the fact that you can actually "represent" a nation or a car maker, the Team Builder thing appeared the most plausible thing to me.

Assetto Corsa and Project Cars put pressure to PD this time and the next month, where the launch date is expected.
It is possible because it's easier on PS4 to migrate from PC to console.

so my question is: could it also become the other way? GT no longer PS exclusive?
it make sense, if GT Sport will be the only franchise with FIA - than it would be better to bring more people to GT Sport.
And another reason: DriveClub is the new PS exclusive Racing title wich came out with PS 4 release.

could this be possible?

What you say makes sense. Almost an idea of "lets do the most we can now, so that we don't have to do it later" mentality. I agree that most things have been added to the series since that list, but the things that have been added are unfortunately not the "top desire" of most fans. I think many of us wanted to or at least expected to see a livery editor, proper lobby (though there is one I understand, but it's terrible) and club builder before seeing some other things... especially when considering the competition is doing most of the same things.

I'm curious as to what was implied by club builder during this presentation. I wonder if it was an idea similar to what we now see in DriveClub, or similar to GTA with the crews? Either of those ideas could be very fun if implemented correctly.

EDIT: @lazyloader. First welcome to GTP! Second, that is an interesting argument you have there, but I don't foresee Gran Turismo becoming a non-PS exclusive no different than Forza will not become a non-Microsoft exclusive. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but Gran Turismo is produced in part by SCE and it has always been their main flagship title.

We can't really discuss features since we only know about it having two cups:manufacturers and national, we can only speculate for now.

Two things. First of all as someone above says, the FIA have no control over the rights to Formula 1, that is FOM, and it's currently exclusively licensed to Codemasters. Secondly, as far as we know there is no actual license as such between PD and the FIA. It is a long term, commercial partnership - http://www.gran-turismo.com/gb/news/00_1153498.html

That on it's own does not suddenly mean they can include new cars and series, or include any cars they like if they're in an FIA series. There most likely will be more race cars and racing series in the game but if there are, it won't be as a direct result of the FIA partnership. They will still have to license them from the respective teams and commercial rights holders as they did before.

racing eSport will become a very huge advertising market in the future. Not in the next years but in the next decades. On the one side there will be robocars on real tracks and on the other side there will be the eRacers in their playseats. At iRacing and at teams like team redline we could see right now the direction. And i think this market will not stick only to the playstation. This is the reason why i think it could be the better strategy for PD and Sony to use the current drive with FIA to become a first leader in this new market and not only on PS. The next point i am interested in is what happen about the cooperation with Nissan inside GT sport? Will GT sport also in the future create the real drivers exclusive for Nissan? I don't think so.

When you put it like that... I agree that the idea and application of "eSports" in regards to racing competitions and the likes will not remain Sony based. There is no reason for it to and it will eventually branch out to other platforms. The way you posted previously, I disagree with because Gran Turismo will probably cease to exist before it is a non-PS exclusive.

Nobody can possibly know what deal or offers or earning, etc. are offered with GT Sport, Nissan's partnership, FIA etc. when nothing new has been released news wise. We can only speculate at this point, but I personally don't think the rewards will be any different than previous
