T10 is an exceptional case. Codemasters, SMS, Kunos, Ghost Games and Evolution Studios all had delays.

None of them have had delays spanning over multiple years, or delays where pre-orders had to be cancelled and a concrete release date had to be changed to a release year.

GT Sport hasn't even passed its initial release date yet, it's hardly spanning over multiple years.

Why would you say that it's wrong to not specify a date at this time? T10 doesn't reveal release dates until they're fairly close, about 3-4 months ahead. With GT Sport delayed until next year it's probably at least 6 months away.

And I'm pretty sure that the Project Cars Nintendo pre-orders had to be cancelled. Driveclub + PS4 bundle pre-orders were cancelled as well.

I'm going to make a prediction as to what the delay is. I'm thinking that Kaz or someone looked at the casuals who come onto forums or come to the game showings and said 'Oh crap, they're angry that there isn't enough stuff for them at release.' What I think is happening is this delay is so that more cars and tracks can be added. I'm doubting highly that things in the game will receive changes and that the only difference when the game releases will be the number of cars and tracks.

I'd be happily proven wrong when we eventually get the game but I don't think they'll be changing the way the game plays.

Maybe because it had a very specific one already? You don't go from knowing the exact day you can believe you can deliver a product on to not being able to even pinpoint a month unless things have changed drastically. If I was doing work for you and initially said it'd be ready on November 18th then came back with "It'll be 2017 now" I'm reasonably sure your response would be "When in 2017?". If I couldn't tell you, something is very wrong.

Sony know that any delay is bad but they are always going to want to give as specific as possible a new date to keep faith with people. There is no way they would just say 2017 if they did already know a more specific date.

Since when is it just 'casual' gamers saying these things? Anyway if the delay was just to give the modellers more time what are the rest of the team going to be doing?

My prediction was pretty bad
But I'm wondering why they didn't show the PS4 Pro

Uptake on the PS4 is pretty bad in Japan generally, I really don't think pushing a more expensive version would be particularly helpful.

At the presser? They did, a bit - but wasn't too much on it.

The PS4 slim got a J-rap though :)
They did? I only saw the PS4 slim

PS4 sales are bad in Japan? Didn't know that

You also don't announce a date a year in advance, even if you believe that it might be ready by then.

Because the game itself was cancelled?

Quite likely.

I personally haven't seen someone who claims to be a hardcore sim racer say that GTS' smaller size is a really bad thing for the series. I think it's quite good for them because it allows the team to focus on the physics of each car more.

As for the rest of the team, good question. I have no idea what they'll do, maybe Kaz will come up with some more features for them to work on, but I feel the main delay is mostly because of cars and tracks.

Is that not the point being made? That everything points to the delay being very significant, not just extra time for polish and bugfixing?

The small size generally maybe not but certainly the car list up to now was criticised by all types of players for lack of variety. A game like pCARS may have about the same or less in total but it is definitely more varied. Every car shown for GTS was 2009 or later, no open-wheel at all. Hardcore sim racers surely like a bit of variety as much as the next guy.

Sony/PD knew from the very beginning that the game was going to be comparably pared back for a GT game. It's not something they would have stumbled across reactions to only three months before the release date, prompting an abrupt and functionally indefinite delay.

Because with hearing of delay of GTS/7 i definitely decided not to buy a PS4 (or 4.5 or pro or whatever) i certainly would not mind if PD skipped this gen and released next GT on PS5.
I would not be too surprised too. (Expecting PS5 in 2018-2019, so developers should be starting soon with development - if my date is correct).

Totally agree !

GTS should remain GTS.

Series really needs a new direction. And I really like this new direction.

Since I discovered online mode, career bore me. Play against real players give me an incomparable pleasure. Unless this mode is wrong, which isn't the case for Gran Turismo which was pretty complete.

I hope GT Sport will remain as it is. But I don't worry too much.

Official website still the same and Kaz seems happy about the new direction. Just read his statement on delay.
Absolutely, some of the online/community features introduced in GT5/6 are superb. It's quite surprising to see just how limited you are online in other games. I can see so many possibilities for this game

The original point was that it's wrong to not specify a new date. Then you made an additional point about how this likely means that it's about something significant.

I'd argue that GT7 with significant graphical improvements (4k+HDR on PS4 Pro) and PSVR support would sell like hotcakes to everyone wanting to show off their kit.

I don't think that 4k and VR are going to be that much of a selling point. For one you need an expensive TV, and the other the also expensive VR equipment. I don't know of anyone with a 4k tv here, it's just not a priority yet, since the Full HD TVs are good enough. And VR? Well, the biggest number of console owners here are gamers who play mainstream games, COD, FIFA, PES, Battlefield (on PS4 atleast), and usually buy those games on a yearly basis, so not many interested in such expensive system that can only be used in specific games.

4K here is simply not worth it, unless you have a super PC to play games at that resolution, or to watch movies (which, once again, is not worth the extra money you spend, between watching a movie at 4k or 1080p).

The game looks great, now it needs more content, so it won't look like a prologue (which is one of the reasons some people are not buying it).

I bought a MGS5 Special edition PS4 last year, sold it last week on Friday still sealed in the box..Sad fimes, all I wanted was Gran Turismo. I'm just going to stick to GT6 for a while and hope this thing blows over and that PD sort this out.

That brings up the question, why not spend the money from that on another platform where you do have new racing games? You must be a very patient man :D

I have a PC but in the process of moving house, have been renovating since December last year, when the house is ready then maybe I will set it up with my T300 on Iracing or something. We'Ll see.

The automobile market has changed as well. More young people don't care about cars as compared to 20 years ago.

I think there is more to it than those dwindling numbers. In all racing games.

You can see how Fast and Furious was before a movie about cars and now an action movie.

So I'm assuming you didn't watch the EG video then lol

Ofcourse not. There's no conversation to be had there.
