This second track was altogether more enjoyable.
A) After running away with the top prize last time out, there was no need to change anything about the Fiat - just hit the track and set some times. Oddly, it turned out that the first attempt was the quickest, most likely due to my making more errors as I pushed harder in the later runs.
B) With the limits of FWD in my memory from the first track I elected to spend 4,000cr on a 1.5 Way LSD. This didn't exactly cure the understeer, but it transformed the car into something that felt more like a 4WD. Much more traction and more controlable understeer.
C) The Nissan suffered in traffic last time out, but with more space to move this time I got the chance to get a feel for it's handling. It was sublime. No issues, no drama, no more than a quarter second difference between my best and worst times.
D) The Mustang on the other hand was a right handful. After sliding my way around the track once, I went off to GT Auto for some downforce. Imagine my horror when I discovered there were no compatable wings for my car! With my limited funds there were no other improvements I could afford to improve traction, so it was back to the track and try to take things easy. Easy it was not. Had it not been for half the field going off on the first corner, and the rest doing so in the last corner I wouldn't have stood a chance.
E) Finally for the monster. Like the Mustang I found the going slippery. So slippery in fact that I found myself going sideways into the end of the pit wall, T-boning myself on the first lap. Had I been driving the left hand drive Shelby instead of the UK spec AC then it would probably have been game over for me - permanantly!
While the mechanics were rebuilding my car I had them enact a Stage 1 Weight reduction for 1,200cr. I then returned to the track and took it slowly, setting a banker time and it's just as well that I did. On the third and final attempt I lost the back end and found myself facing the wrong way. By the time I recovered and got going again I was way behind the pack, finally finishing some 6 seconds slower than my previous attempt.
My best run in the Nissan, and first (slow) run in the Mustang have been saved. Hopefully I'll get a chance to convert and upload them at some point.
