Chapter 11 - More Than A Girl
We had arrived in Rome after a long drive. I'd left my dad quite a distance behind (completely by accident of course) since he was in the truck carrying my Giulia home and I was in my GTO...well, what can you do. Still I'd made it to Rome by myself and was now scouting around the town.
"Am I in a time machine or a GTO? First Le Mans, now this..."
As I went past the amazing Colosseum, I was ready to head out of Rome.
"Almost out of Rome. It's been good here."
But before I could, I had to slam my brake pedal down to stop myself from going head first into three cars blocking the wrong side of the road!
"Whoa!!! What's this lot doing here?!"
They weren't just on the wrong side of the road though...they were parked on the wrong side of the road.
"A Challenger...in pink. That's almost an insult..."
"An i-MiEV. At least the colour of this suits what it is! Stupid milk float."
And in the center, we had...
"A pink...LFA?! Hahaha! What idiot decided to buy their LFA in this colour?! Ahaha!"
But before I could continue laughing at the sheer ridiculousness of a pink LFA, three girls came out of nowhere...
...Of course.
One had green hair and went up to the i-MiEV. Another one with ginger hair went up to the Challenger. The last girl, a blonde, went up...to me. Great...
"...Problem?"
"Yeah...you're kind of in my way."
"Well...I can tell you're just a boy racer. But with such an ugly car like yours...we wouldn't ever let you through."
"Ugly? I'm sorry, but can that pink LFA you have possibly make any less sense?"
"...What did you say?"
"Oh, apparently you didn't here me the first time, so I'll say it again..."
"Right. It's on."
"Er...what?"
"If you want a race, I'll give you one. And I'll send you right down the nearest drain here."
"...Ahahahahaha!
You're giving me a race?! Sorry, I'm struggling to keep my breath now you've said that! Ahahaha!"
She them stormed off to her LFA and started it up. She then revved it up with a scream not natural to that of the LFA...
"Wait a minute...that's a modified LFA?"
...and then got within a millimetre of my GTO. I could see her face through the window...and it wasn't a happy one.
"Alright, alright! I'll have a race with you. Even though you know you're going to get destroyed, right?"
"As if something like a GTO could possibly beat me..."
"You just watch...I'll leave you choking on your own mascara."
"Bring it, then!"
So, I was racing with a crazy girl who thought her pink LFA could beat my 695bhp GTO. Clever girl...though she was blonde, right?
Still, there was no time for jokes then. It was time...for some racing.
"I literally cannot see anyway for me to lose here..."
"Such a 🤬...I'll show him girl power!"
As the race started, I cut across the LFA just in case the impossible happened and I didn't get a better start.
"Come on, GTO!"
"Let's take him down, LFA!"
That didn't happen obviously, and straight away I pulled away from the LFA.
"Wow, that wasn't hard at all."
"Wait...stop! Come back here!!"
"Damn it...he has got a fast car!"
And that was pretty much all I had to do to win. Not really what I'd call a race, would you? More a testament to the GTO's amazing power.
"If only she'd known better..."
"Wow...he's left me in the dust!"
I even bothered to lift off down some of the straights.
"Yawn...wake me up when I get there, someone."
"I can't keep up!"
"Yay! Totally unnecessary full throttle..."
The finish line was in sight. We were only doing one lap of the main circuit. Not that it would ever have mattered...
"Oh no, I'm not gonna make it in time...aha."
I even did a few swerves across the line.
"Even the Giulia race was harder than this. Haha!"
"That car...it's amazing."
As the LFA screamed across the line then stopped next to me, I started laughing once more before I noticed she was...smiling at me?
"Hahaha! That's what you get for...wait a minute, why are you smiling at me?"
"The car. That thing does go so fast..."
"Erm...you OK?"
"Yeah...how much HP it have?"
"It came with 695."
"Wow! That's high. No wonder I lost...this thing's only got 612."
OK, maybe she didn't know about my HP...but eh.
"Hmm...I have to say, the sound of that thing is much better than I remember it being."
"Yeah, of course, I modified it...how about we get out of our cars now? We need to get to know each other a bit more."
"Um...OK...then."
I got out of my GTO. I took a quick glimpse at the LFA, and I couldn't help thinking that it was actually a rather good car...it looked good, the paint job itself wasn't that bad, and of course the sound...but now wasn't the time for comment. It was time to chat up some girls...I think.
"So, what's your name then?"
"I'm Jason. Son of a famous racing driver, Adam Cutler..."
"Of course! You beat those supercars down in Switzerland, didn't you?"
"Yeah, that's me. So...what's your name then."
"OK then, I suppose I'd better introduce my whole group of friends then, hadn't I?"
"Go on then."
"The Mitsu driver here, her name's Terri. She's only got a kei car, but she's actually one of the top drivers in the Kei Car Championships held in Japan."
"The Challenger driver here is Krystal. She's got a reputation among some classic muscle car drivers. She's won plenty of races with her Challenger, even with no modifications to her car at all."
"There's also another member of our group, but she's currently got some racing to take care of. Her name's Danielle, and she's got a modified FT-86. She's one of the better sports car racers around."
"And I'm Katie, leader of our group. I've obviously got the most powerful car, but also the biggest reputation of the group. I've embarrassed plenty of men and boys before, and people consider me one of the most talented racers around."
"There you have it. That's our group."
"OK, thank you. I've gotta get back home to Bern, I'm coming back from a race at Cape Ring."
"Cape Ring? I love that place. It's perfect for driving and visiting..."
"Yes, definitely. OK, I've gotta go now."
"Later. It was nice to get to know you. See you!"
"Bye!"
"...I'm gonna be seeing her again. I just know it."
And so, it was time to head off back to Bern. My dad had also caught up with me at last...
"There's Dad's truck! I am in trouble..."
I quickly rushed into my GTO and started up and got away very quickly, as a joke of course.
"Hahaha...oh, the things this car can do."
Jason has met Katie, leader of a popular racing group and now beaten her in a race. Now Jason heads off back to Bern to have a break from racing. What will happen in this time? And is this the last we will see of Katie...?
Stay tuned to Grand PriX to find out!
