I was wondering how many members were going to take part in the GTA 2011 challenge. Post your region and we can make a contact list for other competitors who might be having problems making the top 128 in their region. Wouldn’t it be the coolest if the majority of winners were from our forum? Let’s work together and see what we can do as a team.

Contest Regions are as follows:
GT Academy West:
Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming.

GT Academy Southeast:
Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas

GT Academy Midwest:
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Wisconsin

GT Academy Northeast:

As best as I can tell there are 18 members who have earned the 60 gold licenses, If you have and I haven't got you correctly PM me with whare it is on the 60 Gold list and I will adjust my Buddy List.

Here is a posting from Alex from later on in the thread:
Hi all. If anyone has any specific questions for me then please fire away, but to kick off I can offer a few general tips:

First and foremost,
Use a wheel - I did not reach the UK finals of the 2008 GT Academy because I used a DS3. I am absolutely convinced that If I'd had a wheel back then, I would have reached those finals too. By the 2010 GT Academy, I had owned a wheel for about six months, and it brought me the extra speed that I needed.

Don't be complacent - Even if you think you've nailed a lap that you can't possibly imagine beating, someone else will probably find a quicker way. When such a big prize is on offer, the most determined will be working at it every day to be the best, so to win, you will need do the same.

Mental Approach - Everyone is human, everyone is beatable, so why is it ridiculous to believe that you are the person who will win? Nobody has an unfair advantage over anyone else, so you should all believe that you have a genuine shot at victory.

Hope these tips prove to be helpful for a start, I'm sure there are many others buried away at the back of my mind that will pop up at some stage :)

West Coast, I don't know if I will make top 128. But I am hoping WRS will start up again to get some side training in.

When does the NA challenge start?

Registration for GT Academy begins December 6, 2010 and runs through January 23, 2011. The online tournament, which is split up into four regions, will run December 20, 2010 through January 23, 2011.

I have two answers:

I want to be a real race car driver

and

I might win some cool prizes

Because I'm realistic. I am not the fastest at this game, I'm likely not going to even make the top 128, however I read there will be free DLC handed out just for trying, so thats cool, and better to try and fail than to never try at all.

Im so broke I can't even pay attention!

With this I am entering every Contest I can for the GT Force.
The GT Force is the Steering Wheel they will be using for the 16 person Comp. Unless they go with the GT500, I still need a wheel to compete from start to finish

Hell they should give out some of them 20 and 30 million cr cars for doing ok that would make me happy. since farming that kind of cr is going to take a stupid amount of time :P.

West Coast here!
I'll give it a go, but I truely want to finish all licences with gold and I am only half-way through...

West Coast here.

Pretty sure I'll make the top 128 in the Western Region, but not sure of my chances after that.

<--------East Coast

I can say with arrogance that I will beat anyone in my region to last place. I'm joining for the fun of it and to see how far I can actually go :)

I am going to give it a try. Not sure how it will go though. I am decently quick and I have minimal racing experience, but it will be fun trying either way.

Lefty, aren't you a bit too old for GT academy? Maybe little lefty can enter, unless he's under 18.

West Coast here!

I'm going to enter, but if by some miracle I make it to the actual academy, I'll have to forfeit my prize. Being color blind makes you ineligible for the MSA's licence. 👎

I wouldn't call it GT Academy North America, more like just America since Canadians can't participate 👎

I don't really care or expect to make it to the finals in something like this, I'm past that point in my life where I can drop everything to chase a racing dream. It would be nice to be able to post a time just to see how I stack up though.

I managed 15th in Canada in the GT5 TT (would have been 32nd in the US, but 1028th! globally).

From reading the rules, it looks like if I falsely registered as a US resident I could theoretically (if I was fast enough) bump someone out of the later rounds since they only verify your identity once you get to round 3. I guess I'll just be watching from the sidelines this time.

Good luck everyone! 👍

Lefty, aren't you a bit too old for GT academy? Maybe little lefty can enter, unless he's under 18.

Age is a frame of mind; of course I will be devoting all of my years of racing to pulling off the impossible knowing that if I can get past the first round I will have to most likely be the oldest and most underestimated out of the 512 going into round 2.

I will definitely participate, Im neither West or East coast, more of a Central. Arkansas to be exact. Ill be doing this solely for fun, If I somehow do well then great :)

Count me in, Im looking forward to it.

As of right now, I have a job that usually takes about 7 hours a day, and few other obligations. I plan to spend as much of my time as my sanity can handle shaving seconds off my laptime. I don't have any real world experience, nor am I am top GTer, but I am willing to give it a try!

EDIT:

Im Northeast

Midwest here... Answered I think I will win in the poll somewhat as a joke - looks like I'm the only one brave enough to do so! I recall only being about .2 seconds off of the winning times for the VIP Indy 500 contest so here goes nothing!

(EDIT - Time trials are kind of my thing - I would consider myself above average when it comes to head to head racing)

Southeast chiming in. I am definately down for some free DLC and a chance to win more, though I am trying not to build my hopes up.:)
Good luck to everyone!👍

West Coast. I'll be competing in this one, unlike the time trial :) I feel sorry for the guys on the east coast, the population is MUCH higher, thus the competition will be tougher over there.
