Hi all,
First of all I'd like to say I had a great time in the Portuguese finals and had some really good and close races. In respect to the organization I agree with MAY (
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showpost.php?p=3746768&postcount=335) and although we didn't get a goodies bag like NZ we were told we will get a free copy of GT5 when it comes out (no voucher though...maybe they'll mail it to us...). I thought the warm-up area was a really good idea (we had 4 extra pods so the group that was on next would be practicing before going on to race for real).
The bad points: DFGT... having never tried one and having set my time on a G25 it was a bit hard to get used to the different wheel, but specially the cheap plastic pedals. The driving position in the pod was AWFUL (2 choices: right distance from wheel and knees on your chest or right distance from pedals and arms fully stretched). I'm pretty sure the TV's in the pods weren't running in full HD so didn't look as good as we're all used to either. Last but definitely not least PD has GOT TO do something about that drafting, it is just ridiculous... I mean anyone who has ever seen NASCAR knows those guys are doing 200+MPH in shoeboxes and can hardly make a pass by just drafting, and here we are on stock 370Z's doing 100MPH and we're making up close to 1s on the Indy straight...
In respect to the tracks there were no surprises for me, they looked like I expected them to look like and they felt like I expected them to feel like (similar to the demo). The thing that I most noticed was that you couldn't cut the big curbs in Tokyo like I used to do in GT4 (turn 2 and a fast right hander near the end specially), if you do the car goes light and you lose a lot of grip so thumbs up there.
In the competition I was Pole position for group 3. First race (indy) I got a good start and the guys had some trouble behind me so I just got away nicely and won with a 12s lead. Race 2 (Tokyo) had a decent start but outbraked myself for the 1st corner so lost a place, got it back in turn 3 (fast long right hander) and then closed the door on the guy following me on the fast right left chicane up the hill which unfortunately caused him to crash (sorry...), won it by 4s. 3rd race (Fuji) was like the 1st and won by about 5s.
On the semis I was in May's group and his report of those races is pretty accurate so I'm not going to make this post any longer by telling the same story again, the link is at the start of the post if you want.
I was sorry not to make the final but I lost out in the semis to the fastest Portuguese in the world (MAY, and by some margin) and to the guy who eventually won it (hunter_4_6 or Felipe Barreto in the real world) who were both not just very quick but really nice people as well so I enjoyed watching the final and I was sorry for MAY to be so unlucky and can only wish hunter_4_6 all the best for Silverstone! Best of luck for all those still to compete in the finals and well done to the ones with the golden tickets to silverstone in their hand, I'll be trying again next time...
