1) Do you know when you have your tuning settings 'dialed in' or close to it?

2) Do you start with the default settings or do you have a roughly baseline 'custom' setting that you always start off with?

3) What happened to Yavy?

You've definitely improved.

1) After some tinkering, I can begin to tell when my settings are dialed in. The characteristics I try to pay attention to are turn-in precision (i.e. pick a spot on the track before a corner, turn into the corner from that spot at a consistent speed, and see what feels most natural and predictable to you), stability under acceleration while turning, and how easily the car can change directions without oversteer or understeer.

2) I have a baseline setting for FR cars, but I usually run a few laps stock (except for the toe setting--I always zero out the stock rear toe-in) and then see where my settings can improve the above characteristics if at all.

3) Who knows? I was sad to see Slatz sold his PSP, but happy to see that Yavy had returned... but he hasn't competed in any challenges yet... perhaps he didn't keep up with the thread and missed the start date.

Why zero out the rear toe-in?

Bah! Whatever! I give up! I'm horrible!

Don't have a camera so I'm gonna post a screenshot:

You know It's me because I made this wallpaper here:

If the screenshot isn't okay I'll try and dig up my old camera, though I'd prefer not to.

Wow, I thought for sure Glubags would be under the 1 minute mark on this one! :) I kind of like the smaller tracks, they make my times seem a little closer.

Wow I fail to upload my time haha. Check back tomorrow for results of C3.

C4 will begin on Thursday, Jan 28th, 2010 @ 12am PST

Why zero out the rear toe-in?
It only seems to be there by default to increase straight-line stability and help reduce oversteer (most likely a concession to the game's non-analog controls), but too much rear toe-in decreases traction available for acceleration and braking, and I think the default setting is just too much. I zero it out for the straightest contact patch to give more grip for acceleration/braking, and I feel I can control oversteer well enough with the throttle and steering inputs to negate any need for it otherwise.

@ niigaki,
Any chance you could post the new car/track today?

Thanks for the the reply, Glu!

psp88 - I don't believe that there is a way to delete/clear the time trial records board (if that's what you were asking about)... I wish there was though.

niigaki - don't worry about forgetting to submit your time. Allen and Cottees forgot too, so you're in good company!

Thanks, glubags.
I'll give it a try for C4.

Too bad we can't clear the records board.
I've been pitting the Initial D cars against each other (S1 tires & no tuning) at Suzuka East & see who is the fastest. I really like driving the Coupe WRX & Spoon Civic.

Btw, is there a formula to compute power to weight ratio?

Looks like niigaki is busy with school.

Just finished all my midterms. SECOND TERM HIGHSCHOOL SENIOR WHOOHOO!!!!!! Now I can actually put some attention into this thing!!! Anyway, the formula for power to weight ratio is... the ratio of power to weight, like, you divide the power by the weight. There is no such thing as a standard power to weight ratio if that's what you're asking.

Btw, is there a formula to compute power to weight ratio?

Very, very simple. If you want to know how much horsepower per unit of weight, divide the HP number by the Weight number. The higher the result the better.

If you want to know how much weight the car has for every unit of horsepower, divide the Weight number by the HP number. The lower the number the better.

Thanks.

I was just thinking of a way (if possible) to balance all cars.
Like the Coupe WRX is heavier than the Spoon Civic.
But the WRX has more HP... will the weight of the Civic put them on equal terms?

Thanks.

Generally, excluding all other variables, in terms of acceleration, yes, but in terms of handling, the lighter car's got the edge.

Hi everybody ! I just registered and I wanted to know if it was too late to join you ? Few problems though :

I am french so my english is not very good and i want to apologize for that -for being french and for my poor english lol !- And I'm living in China ! So if you are GMT -8 and I am GMT + 8, there is 16 hours difference, right ?

Also, I don't have all the cars yet for this season... I'll try my best to catch up !

But, I do love TT Challenges and GT !

I'll post a photo to prove that I'am a "All golds Club" member, and then I'll go for the "elite" !

I usually organize TT Challenges in the french Official Playstion Community forum and keep statistics on my personnal and non-commercial website -www.gt-psp.com-, sorry it's in french but you'll find "Time Attack" and "défi" means challenge. I only keep records from the pilots who took the right photos (we take the one when you choose TT in the main menu so that you have car, tires, physics, course, FW or BW and other cars best lap -so that it's harder to make a fake one) and uploaded two videos -in Youtube / daily / ovh.com of the lap (IN and OUT) to make sure that the rules have been respected (at least 2 tires on the road, NO touch). Problems : lack of serious and most of them quit too quickly... That's why I decided to find other pilots who I can compete with... And I might not continue with the website, to much work for not that many motivated pilots.

So what do you think ? Whatever your answer is, I will understand !

Have a nice day !

Welcome easyblast!

I have a very limited French vocabulary, but was able to navigate your site well enough to check things out and I looked at your Time Attack thread on the French PS community forums. Looks like you've been doing a great job. 👍 The site is very nicely designed. I'd love to participate in your challenges as well if you decide to continue.

Over here, we're experiencing the same problem in terms of lack of competitors. These challenges tend to draw a lot of initial interest but by the end of the season there is usually only a handful of people still participating. Several of the people who signed up for Season 2 here have yet to post a time.

You can definitely participate here and post your times for the upcoming challenges. We use a different screenshot format (we save our ghost lap and take a picture of the replay information screen from the main PSP saved data menu, you can find many examples in this thread) and upload our ghost replay saves (I wrote a quick tutorial on uploading those saves here).

We also have tire and physics restrictions. S1 for road cars, R1 for race cars, and only Pro physics. I saw you guys are running all R3 and a mix of standard/pro... that's how our first season turned out, but I find the S1/R1/Pro physics restrictions for this season provide a much better experience, if a bit more difficult... but why call it a challenge if it isn't difficult? :)

Again, welcome to GTPlanet, and I hope you compete! Let me know what I'll need to do to compete in your challenges if you continue to host them. I assume I'll need to get an account over on the French forums first.

Not too late at all... we'd love to have you join us! :)

The challenges end at 11:59 PM PST (Pacific Standard Time)... so yes, that will be 16 hour difference.

No problem, just enter whatever challenges you can. 👍

So what do you think ? Whatever your answer is, I will understand !

Have a nice day !

I think we have another competitor - welcome!

No problem, niigaki... we understand!

:)

Welcome Easyblast, glad to have you!
@niigaki No problem. Good luck with your studies, we are all well aware of how important school is.
Besides, having a weekend to do this challenge might help me not stink too badly on this one. Work has been brutal lately, partially thanks to the media. Should be a fun.

Welcome to the challenge, easyblast.
We hope you'll stay till the end of the season.

Thanks for the update, niigaki. 👍

LOL. My first lap looked more like an open track drift event than a time attack lap.

2'18.194 with an off at 130R, no tuning.

I'm hoping to break into the 2'16s or lower after some tuning and finding all the braking points.

Thank you guys ! I ll do my best to be in the top 5 !

I have the car, I am in !

Also, thanks a lot for my website, I ll see what I will do with it : I might stop the challenges with the french community but the time attack will continue, I can think about adding your names and your records in it... But first thing first : buy the other cars I don't have (Ferrai, lancia, mazda, toyota...) and then C4 !

Almost forgot : I have a psp 3006 -bought in HK-, and configured in french so the french word for "time trial" is "contre-la-montre" (against-the-watch :)), ghost is "fantôme", forward is "normal" ! And because I am living in China : no youtube, no dailymotion, no facebook, no internet freedom... That's why I use http://demo.ovh.com/ : you can upload big files for 5 days, you've got a link you can copy-paste in your message and your friends can download your files...Really convenient ...

So I have to wait 3 hours before turning my mercedes on... (it's already the 29th for me but it's 1 o' PM which means it s still the 28th for you and it's 9 o' PM, am I getting that right ?)

Good night !

Hi guys !

After 18 laps, here is my first lap in 2'18, no tuning cause I don't know how ! If someone could give me some advices that would be awsome ! So here is my lap, could you please help me to translate those french words for the next records I'll post ? I also recorded two videos of the lap (IN and OUT), can you please check and tell me if they are ok ? I'll try to do better and faster but it is a little bit hard to get used to those S1 tires when you are used to R3 ! But, I'll do my best to give you some honest competition -I hope cause Glubags, you are fast man !-

So here it is :

Meilleur temps : 2'18.238

Transmission : Manuelle
Pneus -Tires- : S1 / S1
SCT -TCS ?-: Non
GSA -?- : Non
Direction active -A D ?- : Non
Physiques de pilotage -Physics- : Pro
No Tuning.

  1. 1'01.137
  2. 1'50.669
  3. 2'18.238

And the link for the videos (I've just noticed that because the car's name is too long, we can't see the physics nor the tires... same for you ?)

video link

Have a nice day !

You got most of them. Here's the full English for those options:

Lap time: 2'18.238
Transmission: Manual
Tires: S1/S1
TCS: Off
ASM: Off
Active Steering: Off
Driving Physics: Professional

And thanks for the compliment! 👍

1'01.1xx is a good first split to start out. My 2'18 lap has a first split of 1'01.8xx... I'd really like to get that down to 0'59.xxx, but that's going to take a lot of finesse through the S section and the Dunlop/Degner corners.

The S1 tires make it very hard to put 600+ horsepower to the ground, but it's loads of fun. Wish I had my PSP with me at work today... very slow this Friday. I'll be shooting for a low 2'17 when I get home. Ultimately hoping for 2'16. If I can manage to tune the car into a more drivable state, I'll post my settings.

I also recorded two videos of the lap (IN and OUT), can you please check and tell me if they are ok?
Just watched the outside view of the lap, saw no problems at all. At least 2 tires on the tarmac at all times, so nothing to worry about. 👍

You beat me to it, Detroit :)

After some tuning I've turned out a 2'15.631 with a TERRIBLE hairpin, and I was way too hesitant on the throttle through Spoon, way too early on the brakes for 130R, and a touch too late on the brakes for the final chicane. Clean lap, but a 2'14.xxx is definitely within reach.

Have you considered trying TOR (The Onion Router)?

👍

easyblast - what version of the game are you using? The European copy (UCES) or the Asian one (UCAS)?
