GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

They're not actually GT1 cars. The original plan was to amalgamate GT1 and GT3 into the "GT World Series", with each manufacturer only entering one car in one team. In order to negate any differences in performance, the cars would be re-tuned to a new performance standard. However, that idea didn't work. The SRO couldn't get any GT1 cars onto the grid. So the series is now GT3 cars that have been tuned to the GT World standard and branded as GT1. Confusing? Yes. Poorly run? Certainly. For the good of the sport? Absolutely. In 2011, the GT1 grid consisted of five different cars - the Aston Martin DBR9, the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670, the Ford GT1, the Nissan GT-R and the Corvette C6.R. This year's grid has nine cars, including seven new (the GT-R and Corvette are not returning): the McLaren MP4-12C (Hexis), the Ferrari 458 Italia (AF Corse), the Aston Martin DBR9 (Valmon Racing Russia), the Porsche 997 (Exim Bank), the Ford GT (SUNRED), the BMW Z4 (Vitaphone), the Lamborghini Gallardo (Reiter), the Audi R8 (Team WRT) and the Mercedes SLS AMG (Munnich).

SRO's mismanagement has undoubtedly hurt the series. The calendar has been changed a few times, they've been unable to get manufacturers invested in the new rules, and a whole host of teams that raced last year have left. But there are now nine teams and nine manufacturers, and if they can successfully re-introduce GT World next year and maybe get two or three extra races going (maybe in North America, South America and Australia), then I think the category will be much stronger for it.

I guess what I'm saying is, will there be any new cars to the homologation or no? That's all, thanks for the background however. Also from what I could gather on the website before I asked, are they still doing 2010 specs like it says or has it not been updated? One last question, it shows the Ford GT running low numbers power wise compared to the others, hell the GT3 Camaro with it's big 8L is running 650hp range. Are the numbers correct or did they accidently copy/paste Gt3 numbers to the GT1 website?

You could probably try the FIA website. They'd have the regulations posted somewhere.

As for the GT-R, they didn't "get rid of it". Nissan simply chose not to continue racing.

Well, Nissan couldn't continue to run in it with the GT1 car due to the reg changes. Whilst JRM were developing the GT3 version last year they aren't an official team for the car (they have bigger fish to fry in the WEC now). Perhaps if the championship survives we might see a customer GT3 spec GT-R next year.

I'm still very much sceptical about the future of this championship, I think the choice to go to GT3 cars is the right decision considering last years GT1 grids. However, there's nothing to draw competitors into racing in the championship when better alternatives are available - especially for the gentleman drivers who own the teams/cars and play a massive role in sportscar racing. In GT1, as a gentleman driver, you're not allowed to compete and even if you were you'd only get an hour racing tops per weekend.

I'll say it again here, Blancpain Endurance Series is the place to be if you've got a GT3 car...

As for people asking where you can watch 'GT1' it'll be streamed again from the GT1World.com/Dailymotion site. It might be on TV in your area but it's unlikely - I know Bloomberg & ESPN showed the races on TV last year but that may well have changed!

Also, for those interested, the national British GT series kicks off this weekend at Oulton Park. I don't think there will be television coverage (at least not for a couple of weeks) but the entry list looks quite strong - Ferrari, McLaren, Nissan, Porsche, Aston Martin (both the new Vantage GT3 and Vantage GT4), BMW, Mercedes, Chevron + more. Should be good!

It's also a better grid than GT1 World, but we'll gloss over that...

Now this is what I was looking for, could I get a couple links possibly Speedster? Great write up and helps me look for great sport car racing that isn't under the destructive thumb of the FIA.

Thanks for posting the links up, this is British GT's website but it doesn't give any real statistics. http://www.britishgt.com/

I'd take the statistic's your seeing on the websites with a slight pinch of salt, in GT3 all the cars are run under the balance of performance (BoP) and power/weight/air restrictors/aero are continually adjusted in line with the other cars performances to make the racing closer - so it's very difficult to find an accurate listing of what each car is running in regards to weight and power.

Welcome to the confusing world of GT3 racing!

I don't know where to post this beside in this thread.

Can't help but notice that Schulze Motorsport's Nissan GTR GT3.

Yup this is the right place to post it! Currently shuffling round the first post to make this thread relevant for most GT racing series including; GT1 World, GT3 Europe, Blancpain Endurance Series, ADAC GT Masters, British GT (and other national series).

ADAC GT Masters has a brilliant line up of cars, one that puts a lot of other championships to shame! It's unfortunate that we don't get great coverage over here in the UK.

We don't be coverage of it here! They do have a great lineup with the Mclaren MP-412C GT3 and the Camaro GT this upcoming season.

Nice update to the OP. 👍

I took a stroll in this thread earlier and now its all updated with new info. Hoping to be able to find some live streams to watch some of the races here in the States. The Blancpain Endurance series does sound like the better series with all the wierd regs with the FIAWC. 50 GT cars on Monza should make for some good racing.

I was thinking about this last night after posting (early morning I should say), but if they have a GT sponsored car in the series, why not try to make a bigger link and get the series modeled for GT. I love the idea of this series, the delivery could be worked upon though.

Thanks Jav

I'm hoping to make it the opening round of the British GT & F3 at Oulton Park this easter Monday. Last time I went was 2009 when the grid was pretty sparse - a few token F430s versus a Viper, Mosler and an Ascari. So I'm looking forward to watching a proper GT field this time around.

I have an ADAC GT series. :sly:

Yeah, I think he men't modeling the actual race cars and accurately replicate the car's performance so we don't have to use road cars and call it a racing series wich quite frankly is kind of pathetic...

Neither does Malaysia.
I can only watch that replay. IF only i get lucky.
