GT Racing - GT1, GT3, Blancpain Endurance Series & National GT SeriesSports Cars

So Blancpain GT is coming to COTA in 2016 for a double-header with PWC, and PWC will be going to Italy in 2016 as well.

I think I'm gonna save up and go to Houston for that next year. It's about time I go see some GT3's in action up close and personal.

Red Flag. Nismo GT3 was involved in an accident at Flugplatz. rescuers were needed, because people are hurt :(

Edit: Just saw a picture on twitter of the accident. Looks very bad :(

Driver is out of car looking at it in the twitter picture.

Picture deleted due to injured people.

The driver is GT Academies Jann Mardenborough. I guess if people are hurt it's from debris since the car hasn't gone over the smaller fence which is presumably the spectator area.

I didn't post the picture, because gtplanet has a rule against posting videos or picture of an accident with people beeing hurt as far as i know. An rescue helicopter is used.

I know. I posted it because you can see the driver is okay. I didn't think maybe some else might not be though. :guilty:

Yes, people are hurt and you can see one of them in the picture on the ground.

The race control confirmed that people are hurt :(

I believe I cropped anything that might be offensive out of the photo, but yeah, pretty bad wreck.

I hope the person who was injured makes it okay. I hope Mardenborough is mentally okay, that's an intense wreck for even a veteran to handle.

Seen another pic that I will not post here of the rear of the car, but it looks that the car lost it over flugplatz, went in rear first and the wall acted as a spring and it turned over the top of the wall backwards - the back of the car is pointing towards the track, and would indicate with the damage the car pivoted about the rear.

The first fence is the security fence according to reports and the nissan jumped behind it.

Please excuse my english.

I'm not sure what that second fence signals, if it marks out the spectator area then this was an avoidable tragedy.

When I went to the Nurburgring, walking trackside, I remember some spots saying in at least 3 or 4 languages "Don't stand here, danger of death" on signboards on the outside fence. I never went on that spot(Flugplatz), but the first fence probably is there for a reason. Terrible news.

There is another picture from twitter which shows the car probably landed on a chair.

Double fences are pretty common place at many track, generally the rule is spectators should be behind the second fence.

edit: the catch fence stops the car, the gap between the two fences offers a safety buffer.

They have them at Le mans they are easy to get between them.

I did to get closer to the main fence to take pictures right next to a Marshall post and they didn't ask me to move. There was about 15 of us in front of the security fence but behind the main one.

Off the top of my head, I've been asked to move away from the catch fence, and get back behind the crowd line at Donington, Silverstone and Brands. I'm always trying to get a better shot with the camera, I'd like to think I'm pretty aware of whats going on, but you do see some "tourists" pitching up in dangerous areas thinking they are being clever. I appreciate it's a double standard from me since I've done it, but some people just don't seem to know better.

There is the catch fencing which the Nissan has cleared and then another smaller fence behind which the car hasn't cleared. I'd imagine the smaller fence is there to mark off spectator areas. I guess being on a chair in that area meant the spectator couldn't move out of the way fast enough when he/she saw the car coming :(

Same thing happened at the Jim Clark the people that were killed then were in deck chairs at the landing point of a jump?! Not sure why they thought that was a great idea.
