I think it cleared the second fence too, you can see where it's folded over as the car has come to a rest in the right of the first image. They ban photographers from going anywhere near Flugplatz so I've never really been up from the outside. It's scary on the inside so I'm surprised they let spectators around the outside of it.

I still remember when people protested against the FIA fence...

That's so effed up. I hope Jann will properly recover.
They should ban this location for spectators, because it is to dangerous.
There is the catch fencing which the Nissan has cleared and then another smaller fence behind which the car hasn't cleared. I'd imagine the smaller fence is there to mark off spectator areas.
You are right.

Remember the Mercedes CLR at Le Mans? That's a blowover...

I know, i'm just trying to figure out how a GT3 GTR could do the same in that part of the track. And kinda shocked at the thought.

I guess being on a chair in that area meant the spectator couldn't move out of the way fast enough when he/she saw the car coming :(

It's tragic if the reports of the fatality is true, and my sympathies go out to the families, and to Jann... but it's just not clever to make yourself comfortable in a dangerzone.

The Nissan isn't the only GT3 car known to get it's front wheels up in the air, there was a temporary chicane put in at the Slovakiaring for GT races because a car (I'm pretty sure it was a 458 GT3) did a backflip a few years ago.

Assuming the reports of a fatality are correct, my condolences go to the friends and family of the victim.

Otherwise, I think that this is an incident to be learned from. Assurances must be made that spectators are kept a safe distance from circuits and that catch fencing is adequate to stop vehicles without, of course, obscuring the view too much.

Ultimately, motor racing is dangerous, and freak accidents like this will happen, but an effort must be made to ensure the safety of all involved as much as is practically possible.

Yeah saw the video its a full Blowover, looks much worse then you think as well, Suprised Jann Survived to be honest, the GT-Rs tub held strong.

@mustafur Jann is in no way at fault there. If Nissan GTRs did this before, Nissan need to answer for this I'm afraid.

Edit: Not being funny but I hope they did use GT6 as reference for their setup, this will backfire a lot.

Take Inoue may get a lot of stick, he's decided to blame Jan on twitter. Classy NOT :ill:
And that concludes the part where people care what he has to say.

It's not janns fault its a Car/Track issue.

Its not the first car to do this infact its a carbon copy of the Winkelhock crash posted here.

It was probably similar to this

It's basically this.

Don't want to sound unsympathetic, but that's what watching it on the TV is for. If the circuit is dangerous to the point that a badly balanced car can easily flip, then the circuit owners should decide to change something for driver safety. If this person was indeed sat in an out of bounds area, against the fence, at a dangerous part of the track, the responsibility for their injury falls nearly entirely with them. Even with its slight "widow-maker" reputation the 'ring offers immensely greater spectator security than something like the WRC.

And maybe it's just because I like taking photo's, but the fences at some tracks are already the reason why I normally don't bother wasting my money to go to them.
