I really really hope they aren't for the huge videos the Audi and Supra cars will no doubt come with (Both cars I bet are part of 1.16).

For a game to be online only, PD need to keep in mind people who have slow internet, or monthly quotas. 24GBs could very well make the game unplayable for a lot of folk for a while. That plus the fact most PS4s are 500 GB really annoys me greatly. I've ranted about BF1 having the same issue as well.

Edit: nvm -- Sony's issue.

Well there goes my plan to spend an hour lapping Tsukuba before work. Thanks, PD!

Fortunately I remembered to leave my PS4 in Rest Mode, so hopefully this might have downloaded by the time I get home from Japan in two weeks time.

Last night I was having connectivity issues (my internet-not PD or PSN) so in a huff I turned my PS4 off so will have to manually download when I get home from work today (Provided my issue has been resolved!) :banghead:

Do we know if it's a full re-install, or is this an assumption based it the patch being the same size as patches so far? Has it overwritten the space on the PS4 HDD, or does it add 24GB to it?
The space is overwritten. I had to do a full 1.15 installation after the 1.15 incremental update (as it re-introduced the main menu freeze bug... again). After the full 1.15 installation the game folder used around 81gb of space. After the 1.16 update I checked again and its still using around 81gb of space (give or take a 50-150mb difference than the 1.15 installation). If this had of been an additional patch my game folder would now be 105gb (or more!).

Well looks like the fault seems to be something at Sony 's end if Fortnite is also affected by a huge update file.

Hopefully it might be a quicker download later then because I was hoping to download it on my brother's console tonight so
we can do our weekly races against each other but 24 GB would kill his connection if trying to download both games, see what happens.

The PS4 Patch distribution uses the SIE differential patch distribution service, but we have found that this patch is currently set in the system to re-download all patches. We are currently awaiting SIE’s response.

Last bit is missing in the patch notes quoted by the GTP article (@Famine) and makes it sound like it's not supposed to be that way..?

Sounds like by the time I get home this afternoon, the 24Gb patch might become a tiny one. :D

Ok so the update isn't 24GB!? its just that there is an issue that is forcing people to re-download all patches??

Maybe it'll be fixed by the time I get home and it'll be a normal sized update!

Notification of update (April 4)
2018.04.04

"Gran Turismo SPORT" has performed the update.
The fixes of this update are as follows.

1. Steering controller
 - Fixed an issue where Gilm Thrustmaster® T 500 RS could not be used with the update of 1.15.

2. Sound
 - Fixed an issue that no longer sounds, sound effects, or squealing sounds when playing the game for a while.

3. Sports mode / lobby
 - Fixed a problem where the car was not correctly displayed when pit stop was made.
 - Fixed the issue that the playback function at the time of watching could not be used.

In addition, we have made minor corrections and adjustments.

In addition, although we use SIE's differential patch distribution service for PS4 patch distribution, we have confirmed that this patch is in the state of re-downloading all patches.

We would like to thank you for "Gran Turismo SPORT" in the future.
Thank you.

I know PS4 updates use a differential (incremental) update system but I don't believe this excuse for a second. I updated CoD:Infinite Warfare after GTS and that was a 203mb file, it didn't re-download all the previous updates too (which would have been a lot more than 203mb!). SIE's update system is working properly. Sounds like PD are passing the buck for a bug that stretches through all the previous updates and cannot be fixed with just one small incremental update.

Post 162 on here shows Fortnite having a similar issue to GTS. Their latest update unexpectedly being 10GB so not PD's fault.

Post 106 also tells the same story for War Thunder

I hope so. I came home from work 4 hours ago, slept for a bit and planned to do my daily workout before family stuff but had to give up when I saw there were 24GB to download!

24GB Looks to big for just bug fixes when Rockstar Games update the game it's packed with other DLC to be drip fed over weeks and months guys like Funmw2 read the game files and leak what's coming next can any of you guys on here look into the files and see what's new?

I always leave mine in rest mode yet I have to start it up to make it start downloading updates

Great. I only picked up the game at the weekend and had to download 24gig of patches before I could start playing. Now I've got to do it all again :grumpy:

At least I've enjoyed what little time i've had with the game so far 👍

Considering Fortnite's getting the same treatment from Sony, something behind the scenes is/was definitely happening. Maybe there was an internal virus outbreak over the last few months that might've made their way into the servers, corrupting data. Now they might've got rid of it, the updates are all being redone to restore the data and make sure that the games are working alright.

Might seem very far-fetched but either way, this change doesn't just happen out of the blue, does it? :odd:

My guess is that as well as the combined patches this could include the Supra and Audi, perhaps changes to the FIA championships and perhaps even weather....

After a video from DF about power consumption I started to switch off my console. 50W for doing nothing is way to much. Now I just switch it on when I know something is coming.

Interesting theory; I'd hope it's something more simple than that!

I've got pretty quick broadband and a 24Gb download doesn't phase me that much, I always seem to find it's the installation time that seems to take the longest.
