well guys, encoder has hairline split, need new one, going to glue it in meantime, but i need advice on putting shaft and pinion on correct, more fiddling tonight, deep joy. not sure best way to align gearing system up properly.

I dont know excactly iff this link will help you with your question , but I took a quick look at the thread and it seems too involve your issues or at least some off it .....

edit. Check the "hardware" forum for gt5, it's a very well known issue with G27's and there are some tutorials on how to open and fix it. All you need is a philips screwdriver and an allen key.

It's a symptom of a loose or cracked encoder wheel within the wheel. (http://cmlaserservice.com) has a brass replacement for $40, but some people on the forums have had success with just opening the unit and tightening the 2 screws that hold the encoder to the motor.

Thanks SRT, its internals are on the operating table again and will have another go tonight, I just need to try to a patch up job till either a get new encoder or logitech reply to my call for help, although now I have opened it i have probably ruled out a replacement, will keep yous posted, thanks for link SRT, i have no trouble now taking apart and back together etc, just need to know how to line steering rack and pinion properly as there are no bloody markers, thanks for link.
 
I haven`t practised more than 10 min yet , but i`am curius too know iff others that have practised would post some laptimes , even though I`am pretty sure that I will be in big trouble on RH , as I recal I did a 1.10,584 on RS with 310bhp in my 10 min practise session .......
 
Good news folks, wheel is sorted, thanks for help, i will order new brass one anyways and keep for the future failure, I would like to be in next race if possible Logic, and anyone opening up there g25/7 let me know as there's a piece i broke, a cover thingy to get into encoder, no biggie and can just push back on,little black cover,keeps dust from sensor, but very tricky.

I have done no practice at Rome as yet, but i will for sure be on tonight.

No worries, I have my son to watch tonight, but hopefully get on once hes settled in bed, also picked another great tip, too late for me to implement given i have sorted mines, but rather than get brass replacement, you can get a washer and place under encoder wheel, held on with glue, and it just adds far greater strength and should last a long time, look forward to practice tonight, was so looking forward to last race, also on the bright side, the wheel feels ten times better, more ffb, more responsive, so i may have been suffering issues for a while before complete failure, lets see if it relates to my performance on the track lol,
