How come running 5 gears is an advantage for the Supra and the Skyline? I'm actually running 4 gears for what it's worth, using 5 only when I mess up. :yuck:

And, I think someone got into your post and edited mean into that bold sentence... Might wanna edit that out, it might give people the wrong impression. :sly: :)

And, work it baby, down into the 12's. :) Nicely done.

5 gears:
I assume you mean that in comparison to the NSX and not in general?
In general, I think you understand it since you are running 4 gears.
However, compared to the NSX...
The NSX doesn't have enough torque to run fewer gears since running fewer gears means using more of the rev-range and staying in that range for a long time.
My bet is that the NSX does better using more gears so it can stay in the peak of the power band (even if it is for a shorter time in each gear).

Of course, as usual, this is just my own take on things and isn't supported by much more than base-less theory. :P

"Mean": :lol:
I think it's a bit late for worrying about what people think of me. :lol:

1'12's:
Thanks, I'm working on it... Now I've just gotta start really working on the lap and stop with all this tom-foolery. ;) :lol:

The Board.

You know.

Done.

I just took a look at that board. 👍

Times are fast for sure but what amazes me is that the work to keep that board up is still being done.

I'm sure everyone here appreciates the work you're doing. :bowdown:

Thanks Kent. It's somewhat more grueling on a multilap, multicar foray, that's for sure, but the posting has been slow and the number of drivers have dropped off a little ... so i guess it could be worse :P

This is the first week that I have been able to compete. I am using the Penzoil Skyline and still need to get the speed setting (gearing?) figured out. My biggest problem has been with the traffic on the first lap. Thanks to everyone that has posted suggestions on that. Here are my times from my best clean race results so far:

Lap 1:
T1: 37.153
T2: 1:02.417
T3: 1:24.036

Lap 2:
T1: 29.943
T2: 55.581
T3: 1:17.472

This is using a DFP

Finally had some time to do some Time Trial runs with the Calsonic, 290 gears, 497 HP:

0'27.977
0'51.750
1'12.148

All of those sectors are my fastest so far, and I know I left about .2 from T2 to T3. If the '01 models are faster than the '00 models as KLR142 says, I'm tempted to see what I can get with the Hiroto, but I'm almost out of time already for the week.

Hey T13R, where abouts in Montreal do ya live? Many years ago I lived west of Dorval in a place called Bai D'urfe , with Beaconsfield on one side and St. Anne De Belleview on the other. Also lived in the city on Cote D'Neige(street of snow?) next to St. Josephs Oratory. Any of that familiar?
Sorry I'm odd subject, but it's pretty quiet now.

I'm in LaSalle. I think LaSalle is almost the most southern part of the island of Montreal, where the kink is, and 10 minutes away from downtown Montreal City. It's almost a middle point. Been to the Oratory a couple times, not too far away also. When I was in Cegep ( a form of College here, but not quite ) I went to John Abbott College. That's in St. Anne de Bellevue. I used to hang out with some people from Baie D'Urfe, but we all went our own ways once we got to University. It's cool to know you were from around here, what made you move to Florida? Our icy cold winters? I woudn't blame you, it's currently -7 degrees Celsius ( 19 degrees Fahrenheit ) and the streets and everything else is already all covered in snow.

About tires- I've noticed some people use hard and super hard tires. I figured that super softs were always the best if there is no tire wear. Can someone enlighten me?

oh yes, here everybody is using supersofts...

if we had a understeary car we could try supersofts in the front (RSS) and softs in the back (RS) but that´s not the case for this week, so RSS all the way 👍

I think what you've been seeing are the tires picked for the AI's, those make a big difference, but I'm sure as fasj6418 pointed out, everyone is running RSS for their car.

The biggest discussion has been on what to set the difficulty and tires on the AI's.Instead of finding the setting to pass them as quickly as possible, I've been looking for the settings that will give me the most opportunities to draft them whenever I can, and not have them in my line going into corners. Not only is it very trickey getting the right settings for your driving style, but you must start all over from the starting menu to alter the AI's settings, them you may end up with a different lineup that doesn't work with your new settings. When and if I find the perfect lineup and settings I'm not going to turn off my PS2 until I submit times. Think I would have preferred a given setup for the AI's, it would have kept the playing field more level. But now that I've written that, I don't believe it.
Anyway, it's bedtime, Uncle Herb has tired me out tonight...what a whacky guy he is.

About tires- I've noticed some people use hard and ***** hard tires. I figured that ***** softs were always the best if there is no tire wear. Can someone enlighten me?

I think what you may be confused about, is that when we choose the car for entering the race, we select hard or *****hard. This determines the tire the AI will use, and that is the reference to the hard tires you have read about. Then in quick-tune, fasj is correct. We are selecting ***** softs for running.

My second lap is killing me ... I'm clearly not that bloody good at driving with nothing in front of me*

*or with anything in front of me either./

Oh I see... I didn't realize that it had a smaller powerband, but then again, I haven't driven it much back to back. I started out in the Loctite NSX for a few laps, and then hopped in the Penzoil Zexel GTR, and the braking was so much better I didn't look back. The NSX was more fussy to drive too, but that was before I knew the track, so I think I'll hop back in it for a bit just because I don't see ANYONE running any NSX's, and it's the car I stated I'd be using at the beginning of the week. I don't think I'll actually use it, but I'll see what I can do with it. (Or, maybe I will use it...)

You know it! 👍

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say the NSX has a smaller powerband.
I'm just not that well informed with these cars anymore (GT4 is still some-what new to me).

However, I'm thinking about it like this.
When both a 5 speed and a 6 speed have the same top speed, the 5 speed spends more time in each gear.

Since there is so much torque in my 5 speed skyline there isn't the same loss of power when I have to stay in the lower and middle RPM range for a longer period of time.

However, with the NSX, getting into the low and middle RPM ranges can really hurt your acceleration.
So, 6 gears in the NSX will let you flow through each gear quicker and in-turn give you less time in the lower and middle ranges.

Of course, I usually run 5 gears unless I'm in a 200mph racecar (street cars are a different story).

I'm not sure if any of that makes sense. :confused:
If not, don't worry about it. :boggled: :lol:
Sometimes I just go off into my own world of theory and forget about what's really going on in the game. :banghead:

Anyway,
Later. :D

had a few more goes this time with a better top speed setting of 270 and bet my time by .4 with

34.698
xx.xxx
1'18.381

had a good finish to this lap (probably the ultimate limit actually)

29.844
xx.xxx (never once looked at that split at motegi)
1'11.360

had a **** house finish, but i could never do that sub 1'44 in the first again, so i will probably submit this time, but i could count 5 plus clear mistakes that were made, but its hard to do 2 laps without making mistakes somewhere 👍

hmm... i may have to stop getting my giggles running the Formula GT races in the Audi R8 (god is it even possible to win at tokyo?) and take a crack at this tomorrow.
we got over a foot of snow today, so it seems like tomorrow will be a good day to shut the curtains and curl up with some coffee and a DFP.

I dont know how some of you break into the 28.x's on T1. I am getting as much as I possibly can out of the car and can only get about 29 flat.

EDIT: Went back & reviewed replay and noticed some 'minor' AI contact DOH!!! (but contact none the less)

So, back into the driver seat I went & was able to get a clean run and pull out these times:

Lap1:
T1 = 35.978
T2 = 100.813
T3 = 121.834

Lap 2:
T1 = 28.676
T2 = 53.038
T3 = 113.993

So, even though I lost a bit of time in few sections and gained it back in others, I'm pretty sure there's a T3 of at least low 1'39's that I can pull out...(hopefully! :D)

I finally got comfortable with a gearing and AI settng and put in a good 3 hours. These are going to be from the times I submit, I don't think I will have a chance to get more time to play before Tuesday.

Nissan Penzoil Zexel GT-R
difficulty setting -6
tires RH

Manual transmission
top speed (gearing) 280
tires RSS

T1 36.792
T2 1:02.163
T3 1:24.090

T1 28.860
T2 53.316
T3 1:14.771

I would get a good start, threading my way through the other cars without contact. I would check the split times and starting thinking that I was doing good, this is going to be a great lap, wooo hAAAAAHHHHHHH NOOOOOO, and off the track my yellow Skyline goes.

But I finally got one saved with no contact, no going off the track, and only a few mistakes. And it was my fastest time yet.

This is the first WRS for me, it was a lot of fun, and a lot of hard work.

Jerome sat down for 40 minutes today at my house and whupped my time by about 2 seconds flat :irked:
Did he save it? Lol, Pat did that a couple weeks ago too, but didn't save it. Turns out, his time would've put him solidly in the middle of D1 and at the top of D2...

Anywho, I haven't been feeling like racing lately... I had a go tonight in the NSX for a few laps, but decided to throw that idea in the garbage because the car is soooo bad on this track compared to the other cars. Kent was right, it has no power down low, being NA vs the turbo cars, it has much less midrange, then, add to that its weight disadvantage, the fact that it's less stable in getting on and off the gas, it takes longer to shift, it has worse brakes, and it doesn't like sticking a couple wheels in the dirt as much, I don't blame ANYONE for not using the NSX this week. I'll take my Skyline thank you very much.

If I play some more, seriously, I can easily see another half second(considering I can go faster overall than I went with my splits, AND I lost almost half a second on the final turn as well...). If, I play seriously, and for at least an hour. Tonight, I played it for about 15 minutes(after I got back in the Skyline that is), but just didn't feel like pushing it. So, I've been driving around in old cars trying to beat newer car races in GT Mode. Like the Alfa GTV around the ring in the Pan Euro Championship. No luck there, too tired. Hopped into the similar/more powerful 2002Turbo, which I hadn't driven yet, and was tired enough that I tried to beat it with B-spec. Sat through it three times trying to get Bspec to win it, got VERY close, but had no tires left in the rear and spun out worse than the other two cars behind me and lost it in the final section. Blah.

Gnight! Gmorning! Whatever it is for you!

Let's see how i go... havent looked at this race all week. been busy and all... now i gotz 2 nytes or 3 nites ahead of me! Div 1 look out :P
All you guys gots a head start on me again :indiff:
Not to worry i guess.. time unleash a can of whup-ass and see how much of a hole im really in :P

Just taken a little peek at the leaderboard.. dunno whether they were fast times or not yet.. soon to find out.. looks like its the skyline is the way to go.. although im not really a fan of the skyline.. anyhow.. ill try it out

alrigtee first half hour. about 5 or 6 attempts final attempt got me a clean one.

Skyline Hiroto car

Attempt:
1- a little over 4 minutes woot anyone beat that one :scared:
2- knocked about 10-12 seconds off that
3- knocked about 9 seconds off that.
4- smashed into the backside of the number 2 car. but knocked off a few more seconds.
5 or 6 - cant remember clean time, sorry forgotten the splits kncoked off another few more seconds.

anyhow. improvement is fast but comparing the splits with the leaderboard. im still around 9 seconds off the pace.

I'll continue this battle 2moro.. time for poker.

Finally after 5 days I have found my magic AI setup, -3 RH. Now if you're a tenth slower or more probably faster then me then this setup will not work for you. While posting your AI setups is very generous it is about as helpfull as posting your shoe size, most everyone's is different. I tried everybodys setup, first I used the Hollowed one's setup , reasoning that he's about the fastest guy out there, but thats the problem, all the AI's are in different spots when he's driving so they're useless for me.This setup gives me the least interfearance from the AI's plus a bit of drafting, so now I have 2 days to actually run the race...I best get back to the PS2 which will be on until I submit, I'm not gonna give them a chance to change the lineup on me.
