I had a feeling I'd enjoy this combo. This Mitsu handles alot better than I expected.

T1: 0:22.878
T2: 0:41.371

Gotta go rescue my friends. They just hit an alligator.

Yup,
Holl always uses Kmh.

Think it's just to confuse the hell out of the rest of us.

Or at the least cause us to get the calculators out! :)

Neil

You say "the rest of us", I think most are PAL anyway?

Of the guys that have submitted in the last 2 weeks, what is the split for PAL/NTSC?

spent another 30 min on it
22.740 (still losing .1-.2 on the corner into the tunnel :grumpy: )
41.507 (drifted a bit coming out of the tunnel, maybe another .1 here)

EDIT: yay, that puts me at the top of div 2, only .002 ahead of NeilsG though)

I have a 3 day weekend (teacher work day on friday) so I can actually spend some serious time on it.

EDIT2: DS2, 290, no aids

Hey! Stop bragging about how good PAL people are! :-P Lol, and speaking of which... Pat was telling me last night, while we were discussing my supposedly "modded" PS2 that I bought last night, that PAL was faster than NTSC in GT3...

Anywho, yep, you read that right, I know have my own PS2 and my own copy of GT4! YAY!!! So, that means more POSSIBILITIES for racing from me. We'll see. :)

My (clean)splits from my first session on Monday with this week's race were:
T1: 22.830(seen 22.5xx)
T2: 41.328(seen 41.0xx)

My final time this week will hopefully have T times below the faster times that I've already seen... :)

Sorry man!!! Anywho, did you have fun racing last week? I really want to see your replay from that race... Did you use the soft tires on the front and the mediums on the back the whole time?

KLR142
PAL was faster than NTSC in GT3...

Funny you mention that. Did you know that PAL plays 25 FPS and NTSC is 29.97 FPS... I wonder if that changes the timing in a race. Very interesting...

^^ I was quite busy most of last week, unfortunatly (GTPDC7, Drift Photo Tournament and a ton of school work).
I will post a replay later (not that good, its a 56.652 [dead last in div2] plus it was dirty). I only spent around 30 min on it. I drifted the entire final corner on my best lap, so I had a little fun, more showoff than speed. And yes, I used softs up front and mediums in the back.

I just got a better time that the 41.507
New splits
22.624
41.424
fumbled the hairpin though, and KLR, you're still faster lol, even though I had .2 on you at T1 (that means I lost .3 from T1-T2...darn it!)

I also have a strange observation. For some odd reason, all of my fastest laps happen when I change to kph...
I live in Atlanta, so obviously everything here is mph, but that's kinda odd

EDIT:
Here is the replay for week 46 (NTSC)
If it doesn't work, tell me, because Smallhorses had a horrible time trying to get my week 45 replay working. I also posted it on week 46 results, just in case anyone else wants to see it

PAL in GT3 was faster in some things, and NTSC was faster in other things. It wasn't a 100% all round the board thing.

Hey Geekz -- I live in the Atlanta area also... We've got to get together and do some LAN racing sometime... Know anyone else in the ATL who is interested?

First he lost the plot, now his technique needs polishing and he's failing?!

I love this "encouragement" you seem to give _SHOCKWAVE_ (not me...).

You guys put up a good show, every time :D

At the moment, no sorry. (I haven't lived in atl that long, moved in late 2004, so I don't know too many people).
I know some people that play GT4, but I don't know if they LAN or not...I could ask on monday

found this excerpt from: http://news.spong.com/article/1954/Gran+Turismo+3+PAL+Vs+NTSC+Head+to+Head?cb=303

"Due to European TVs running at a slower frame rate than Japanese and American sets, the frames of animation in 2D games could not be translated correctly by European TVs. This left the programmers with two options. Either redraw all the animation to fit the 17% slower European TV standard or release the game 17% slower with the animation left intact. The latter was always preferred. Now that games are in glorious 3D, animation frame rate is not an issue. It takes an object ‘x’ amount of time to travel from A to B, irrespective of how much animation is required to get it there. It will not have crucial frames missing as the console renders the 3D object in real-time."

So I guess it's a non-issue...

THOSE r some nice splits there shigspeed, if ur best T1 split was only .3xx, then u must be doing something wrong as the limit for T1 is a high .1xx, although i have never achieved that mark, my best was .211.

r u staying in gear 4 for the double left (using 290?) u should initially kill ur speed down to about 192ish as u hit the inside apex or just pass the first left and then sort of 3/4 throtle it at a nice 200ish speed, and u should really end up on the extreme right of the mid apex to allow ur self to maximise ur speed through the 2nd left, which, from the position i just mentioned , u brake dwon to 150ish, and just guide the car through the exiting corner nicely, dont worry if u slightly drift the car on exit either, u should start powering out at low 130's.

and the next left, skip over the right rumble strip (cutting it severly to stay as straight as possible, and then take the corner at 150, but do not cut the inside rumble strip, it effects ur exit speed, and thus, is not faster;) take it at a high 140, and comprimise between having a high cornering speed yet achieving slower exiting speed due to not being able to power out early, and having a fast exit speed, yet a slow cornering speed. gt4 is all about making compromises. i hope that helps at all.

well hOt6o4bOi... :P

-i am coming in to the first part of the double left hander at around 187, then diving out wide (keeping the car straight so it doesn't slide on me) dropping it into thrid for the second part of the double left hander, and taking it at 135, no drifting through any of it,
-then up the hill i am just clipping the tiny right kink with my tyres, and braking hard back down to third, cutting the left hander into the tunnel severely (but cleanly) at around 148 feathering the throttle for a touch to settle it, and then smacking into fourth,
-after the T1 split i brake a car length or so after the concrete veers off to the left and come back down to second taking the right hander hairpin at 70, so that i can get as far right as possible to aid my entry into second double left hander, accelerating flat out clipping the apexs, not the grass coz it slows you down,
-as i come up the hill for the left hand sweeper i lift for a bit just after the last cone (if you haven't already knocked it over that is) and drag the old girl across to the left just getting some tyre on the grass to aid turn in, speed through there is about 178,
-then fly on down to the final corner where i brake back to second 85kph keeping as close to the apex as possible, and floor it straight away, making sure i am in third before i exit the corner (might sound dumb but if you take it quick enough you should be able to get another 0.2 faster at the line) crossing the line at around 231

and to a final time 0.28 behind your current best...

so relax champ...

I love this "encouragement" you seem to give _SHOCKWAVE_ (not me...).

I want time to get a 120 lap enduro!

-Scott (the "REAL" SHig Shady...)

his "encouragement" doesn't phase me champ, i think i will continue to lose the plot if it allows me to be as fast as i am going at the moment... :sly:

Laurence5905
Well, here are my spits after about 30 laps or so...

T1:23.503
T2:42.601

OK, I've improved a bit... Still don't see how y'all are getting 22.3xx and 40.6xx, though...

My splits as of right now are:
T1: 23.069 (0.434 sec's faster)
T2: 42.071 (0.530 sec's faster)
END: 0.620 sec's faster than before...

My times are still dead last on the leaderboard... But this track and car are much more fun than last week's...

And whoever's updating the leaderboard -- I'm using a DFP, not a DS2. I was thinking about switching to a DS2 for this race, but decided not to...

Quick 15 min midnight session before I go to bed...
More new splits!
22.693 (could be .1 better...need to nail the corner into the tunnel...)
41.343 (still looking for more here, I know a 41.0 or 40.9 is possible)
Only .15 off KLR....if you got a 22.8 on T1, you must have seriously pulled something out on T2...
and I shaved .4 off my previous best lap, which got me to my laptime goal for today

*Yawn* I'm tired, done for tonight

EDIT: again DS2, gearing 290, NTSC

I just can't find the apex on the last turn... I need a fresh view on it, so I guess it'll have to wait until tomorrow. My split times can't get much better than this unless I figure out that right turn coming out of the tunnel and that last one. I am lost on those...

23.098
41.878

I'm with you, man! Those two turns are KILLING my times, no doubt...

The first two turns are not easy for me to be consistent on, either... Sometimes I just fly through there, exiting that 2nd curve at nearly 100MPH, and other times I can barely do 80MPH. Many times I wind up sliding into the grass... I just can't do a consistent job on that one at all...

But the two turns you're talking about, I've NEVER done perfectly...

The turn coming out of the tunnel -- I can't seem to decide if it's better to stay wide and slow way down, then cut in hard and floor it, or slow down a little less and hug the curb the whole way... The first method sets you up better for the left-turn crossing the bridge, but it just *feels* slower...

That last turn -- I can't figure out if I need to stay wide as long as possible, then slam it from 5th gear to 2nd and turn in as hard as possible, or if I should take it more easy and stay towards the inside the whole time... Either way I do it, I wind up at about 143MPH crossing the S/F line -- and I know this car can do better than that (like 145MPH or so...)

So, yeah, it sounds like the two of us are having the same problems... Although you are almost two tenths faster than I am in T2...

That last turn my ghost stays out then cuts in. I am in front of the ghost the entire time until that last damn turn. It looks like I took it wrong, watching my ghost, but everytime I hug the strip my ghost accelerates right by...:irked:

SHigSpeed
BTW, Dan, even though we all hate you for being so fast (just kidding!), I just wanted to thank you for consistently sharing your hints and insights, even though I still can't seem to follow through and live by them.

What you're doing is kinda like being in front of a firing squad, except the guys with the rifles are blindfolded and YOU'RE telling them which way to aim!

Thanks again,

-SHig

HAHAAHHA:tup:

yeah, i consider it a duty for the person who has the current best splits to revael every little detail about a combo, weather it be setup, or cornering speeds, and gear choices. Its basically a sign that u r afraid of being beaten if u choose not to do this.

and also, 290 is the best setup, i used 280 for one lap, and i lost like .05 down the main straight. and staying in gear 4 for T1 is faster. and the last corner, i use gear 2 for the exiting gear, i dont shift to gear 3 on exit, as that gear isnt powerful enough, i shift about 500rpm b4 the red light (or at 205 km/h for the last shift) and i hit the line at 231 usually, sometimes 230.

hOt6o4bOi
sup shockwave?

im way off pace this week

t2 of 40.8xx is the lowest ive seen
reason being i never touched the grass thou

i didnt touch the grass that much, only for the right kink in T1, and a slight touch on the left b4 T2, i reckon it would only gain .1ish if u use the grass, so thats no excuse for being .4secs behing the leader at T2 lol. keep on trying:)

nah i was taking the piss out of Dan... he referred to me as ShigSpeed and i was just playing forget the username... :) no offence meant for you mate...

some fresh splits

T1: 22.370 (seen 22.274)
T2: 40.519 (seen 40.503 - should have been a 40.4xx but blew the sweeper before T2 - lacked a bit of polish :sly: )

took 0.15 off my previous best, another 0.15 to go and that will be my max this week if i hook it up right...

WELL! Since it appears I've got someone chasing me... I think I need to go and give him some more to chase... :sly: Lol, time for my late night session to start!

It's snowing outside... I wonder if I'll have to work tomorrow... Hmm, maybe more GT time? 💡

No joke!

Anywho, had myself another go, and came up with this after I broke myself into it again... Thought I started actually getting the hang of it, but for the next 20-30 minutes, I couldn't do much of anything... Kinda found a way to get around that humpy left thingy right before T2, but I was always further behind by that point. A couple of times I was able to catch up by the last turn, but always messed it up there... Either too slow, or braking too late and dropping a wheel in the sand. We'll see what I can do with more rest.

For now, DS2, 290 gearing:
T1: 22.593
T2: 40.917
T3: only .2 faster...

I'll have to re-arrange my goals for this week. I want .3 more at the line, and I'll be satisfied, I don't care how the rest of my splits are, as long as I get that .3... And, quite possibly, by the time I DO get it, I'll be managing even faster splits, on every OTHER lap, and change my mind again to go faster... Time will tell!

dot dot dot :dunce: 👍

here are my splits. i feel more and more nimble as it seems that the rest of the world races faster than me ...

t1 23.505
t2 42.533
lap - 1.0x.0xx

it looks like i need a lot of laps to shave off some time.

in holland we have a little joke about mitsubishi cars: we call them mitsubsidi's (untranslatable i'm afraid but sjaak and big boss will understand).

here's a little demonstration of gtplanet brotherhood. i needed to upload my anniversary replay to flatout because i finished 4th in d3 with my worn mb c9. i don't have a maxdrive so i asked around. now my memcard is on its way to good old sjaak who will do the trick for me. thanks a lot bro!

bigracer - but feeling quite small this week

Righty-O Leaderboard updated and ya'll have to slow down now okay?!? Particularly KLR and ShockWave...both of you were once Div 3.........now THATS crazy

Anyway I'm not racing tonight but I'll be hunting all of you foreign competitors down over the weekend...can't have aliens invading the ARS (Aussie Race Series) :sly:

Why untranslatable ?
mitsubsidi's = met subsidies, which means something like with grant, suggesting I guess that you need to be paid to drive one. Or am I totally wrong ?

LOL... i actually enjoy the challenge of this car this week so i have bashed out some serious laps in it, probably done 170 laps so far... and the Div 3 thing just shows that you don't have to be quick in the Qualifier Race to be quick in the WRS...
