GT5 delayed

I'd rather they didn't give us a date.

I think it would be awesome to wake up to GT5 being delivered, or an announcement on GTP saying the game is released tomorrow or something. I can't bare another countdown.

Oh they can't do that. I would first have a heart-attack at the computer, then if I survive, I would rush myself so hard that I would take our car even though it's broken(the front wheel is loose, and some things needs to be changed) and drive in 150 to the store... man.. I would kill myself during...

First, yes, they said end of the month, so why should we expect some news before then? I'm glad they haven't been saying much official stuff since then. That means they are working hard getting us what we want. If you use simple logic, they are pushing HARD to get this game out in early December. Why you say? Black Friday, the busiest shopping day in the US. I'm certain Sony is pushing hard for this too, because GT5 will increase console sales as well, alot.

Agreed, and this is why I said, I believe the release date will be Nov 23 for the US, and other regions on their respected normal release days of the week. GT5 will have huge release day numbers, but if it comes out on Nov 23, they will also have a huge weekend after Thanksgiving numbers, including huge PS3 sales numbers, so that would be a massive first week of GT5 & Ps3's in the US alone. That is why I think they will shoot for that date, if at all possible.

If PD and Sony are smart (I think they can) they only announce a releasedate when they are very sure they can make it real this time. So if they announce something this month it will be a new date or an announcement for a real date in the future. I think PD nor Sony can make an other mistake on GT5's releasedate again. They would lose a lot of credit for it.

đź‘Ť Agreed 100%. I said something similar in the news thread earlier. I don't think they will give a solid release date until they have their production slot lined up for BlueRay production, shipping lined up, etc... to insure that they can deliver on their new release date. It has only been a week and 2 days since the delay announcement, and it could take 2 weeks to actually line everything up to where they can give a solid date, so we shall wait until the end of the month before we get too upset with lack of information. If we don't have a new date by the end of the month, I will start to worry that we might not get it before Christmas, but I have faith that Sony/PD is trying their best to get it out before Christmas.

Kaz's twitter response sounded like he was sincerely sorry that he disappointed us by not releasing on Nov 2. That apology just had a different feel to it than others that he has made.

Well there is supposed to be a review in Offical PlayStation Magazine Wednesday 27th, so we will see if they get an exclusive and announce the new release date.

I don't think that they'll publish that review now that the game's been delayed :(

The Portuguese Official PlayStation Magazine announced that will publish in the end of the month a review of the GT5... too

The new issue this month of the Swedish game mag LEVEL gets released anyday now. They SHOULD mention a review in the next issue, I will tell you guys if they do, or dont.

Considering the massive stink people made after the latest delay, and the fact that they still havent announced a new date tells me the game isnt actually done and they dont really know when it will come out.

Therefore Im sticking to my prediction that the game isnt actually coming out this year. People seem to assume that they NEED to get it out this year, to capitalize on holiday sales, but AAA games dont need holiday sales. They sell well regardless, and will continue to sell on through next holiday.

So I dont think they are really in a huge rush to make any sort of a deadline, especially after how long its been since this game was announced. If this were some second rate game developer I would bet on their game being out this year, but that isnt the case with games like Mario, GTA, Final Fantasy, and GT for example. It doesnt matter when these games come out.

Of course this will sell well at any time of the year, but it will sell even better during the holiday season in relation to how well it will do at other times.

Well my point was it doesnt really matter. In the end it will accumulate the same amount of sales either way. During this holiday it would get a goof early boost, but it would make all that up eventually anyway.

Well, during the holidays, we might see extra casual sales in the form of gifts that we might not see other days of the years. I mean if there is any time rich grandma will buy GT5 for all her grandchildren, its now.:)

Why were you expecting them to announce the date one week after it was initially delayed? Sony's already shown that if they could announce a date that soon then they'd hold off on announcing the delay. I say that because Gran Turismo 4 was delayed in Japan 2 weeks before it was set to be released. It was scheduled to be released in early December of 04 and they pushed it back to late December. So as said before, it seemed pretty obvious that they were going to need until the end of the month (as they said) to really nail down the new date.

Probably, but AAA games have proven many, many generations over they dont need holiday sales. They will sell well throughout the year, and sell more next holiday.

After all this time I just dont believe they feel some huge pressure to get it out before christmas.

The game is gold. What part of "we missed the printing process by 3 days" do some people not get through their head. The game is finish, caput, they're now trying to find a space they can put the game in to print.

The game may not need holidays for sales but Sony does. This game sells consoles and nobody is going to and buy a console or TV just a few weeks after christmas. There is not one point of reasonable logic in your entire post.

Something also to take into account is that when Sony tells people that it's going to be out before Christmas, they aren't just talking to gamers they're also talking to their shareholders. That's why the "It doesn't matter when it's released because it's going to sell anyway" mentality doesn't fly. Black Ops would sell no matter when it's released also, but that doesn't mean that it should be released with that mentality. Sony hasn't had a major title released since God of War 3, which came out in March. All of their late of the year titles (with the exception of GT5) have been pushed into 2011. They previously planned SOCOM 4 and LBP2 to come out late this year but they were pushed back into 2011. So GT5 it's quite important for them to get it out before Christmas.

Show us your source for the game going gold. This is what Sony told me.
We sincerely apologize to GT fans for the delay, however, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.

“Apologies for the delay. It’s because time and labor were spent ironing the kinks out of a complex system. I’m really sorry. Everyone, it’s inexcusable… Wait a little longer.”

Kaz apparently told someone through Twitter that they missed the original date by 3 days. If that's the case then the game has been gold for some time now. All gold means is that they have a finished disc that ready for pressing.

Remember that neither Sony nor PD has officially confirmed the reason for the delay, only that they want to make it "the perfect racing experience". At this moment it's all speculation, though some well educated guesses that are across the board, from a jailbreak issue, to missing a 3 day production window, to PD having frame rate issues. And yes it could be even that their not finished with the game.

In regards to the missed production window, Kazunori statement should be comforting, but that will be justified upon the new release date given at the end of the month, if it comes. Note that GT Planet news section carefully labels it as "reportedly made contact", not officially.

Note that Sony Europe was the ones that have said a new release date will be coming by at the end of the month, not PD.

And there is a third story saying something regarding safe proofing GT5?

Yeah a firmware problem because they think someone is going to be able to pirate a 50gb game and sell on the black market.

https://www.gtplanet.net/ps3-firmware-the-real-cause-of-gran-turismo-5s-delay/

The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.

If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.

Note that Sony Europe was the ones that have said a new release date will be coming by at the end of the month, not PD.

Don't forget Australia
In a knowing nod to those of us anxiously awaiting GT5’s new release date, Sony Australia has announced a new 3D TV / PlayStation 3 promotional bundle – which includes a copy of Gran Turismo 5 – with “guaranteed delivery by Christmas”.

PD isn't going to be the one making the date. Sony will determine what the date is. Remember back to when GT5 was planned for March in Japan and everyone would ask Kaz when it would be released in the US and Europe. He would simply say that PD makes the game and Sony then determines when it's going to be released.

Actually, that's a very good point. GT always was and i bet it still is a so called system seller type of a game.
Of course, while some (maybe most) of old GT fans got their PS3s ages ago, some casual sales for both PS3 and GT5 will be great and Sony knows it. And Xmas is perfect time for that.

I am not sure if you are joking there, but the piracy issue is probably much more a concern of direct disc copying (ie rental copy, copy off a friend etc) than download...

Also the other side is that (currently) updating your firmware removes your ability to pirate, with a big game like GT5 they stand to get a bunch of people updating and giving up their ability to pirate.
