Wow another FAIL.
No damage
No improvement in graphics
No Skidmarks
No nice surprises!!

Choice:

Some lucky person with too much time on their hands wins the next Academy and gets to rag a car around a track.
Or GT5 released earlier for millions of fans.
PD get the game out instead of this crap!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can do all the competitions in the world after the game is released then!!!

Whaaaaambulance is on its way, dont worry!

After about 15 minutes I finally made it to the car on the track... Every aspect, audio wise, seems greatly improved. Engine, tires, wind and curbs all sound great. Too bad the crap music is still playing in the background. I hope we can turn it off!

He said the game is done when you just want to race and you can race this way.
Also, you dont know what they used to take the pic, it is badly compressed and looks almost like a bad off-screen photo.

You can clearly see some aspects are very high quality, like the laptime, the clock in the car, other small things.
It's strange that the whole thing seems to be 'turned down' a bit.

One thing is for sure: the game does not look 'alive'.

Now think about what you have seen so far and you might know why you feel this way.

I've seen a terrible driver fail miserably at a demo (that probably got optimized for size, resulting in lower than usual texture resolutions) that I can't wait to try, playing in uber low res filmed in terrible quality. WOW that actually explains why I'm feeling bummed! 💡

It's made for millions to dl. Surely they've dropped a few things that are not necessities for the competition - what this demo is ultimately made for.

The screen shot that's looking down track with the GT banners is mighty tasty looking. Almost thought it was real for a second.

@humpus: I dont see anything "very high quality" in the written stuff, sorry.
You will see on thursday that it looks at least as good as Prologue.

You just explained it. Maybe it was captured in SD and scaled 20 times.

Take a close look at this screenshot:

Beautiful cockpit, jaggy shadows, crappy spectators.

Come on PD.

That looks like a simple frame taken out of a video, not a high resolution screenshot.

Plus, the sun is very bright and is screwing with half the things on screen. I'm sure if driving the other way everything will appear more clear. Everything looks blurred and obscured when the sun is very bright in real life and it appears to be the same here.

You get the same affect in prologue sometimes, where its really bright.

This is not a purpose-built demo. it's a competition demo, that means graphics/textures/sounds/anything that takes up space is limited so the download size is small so people can compete in the competition. it's only 220mb... that's almost less than some flash games I have.

Yeah I'm not doubting that it will look better on my setup. Like I said earlier I'm almost certain that the overall quality of the game has been dumbed down for easier download. To be honest I don't care if the game looks like this when it comes out. I just want to play it asap:crazy:

They didnt release this to sell games, I understand...

@ Jack below- So it gets delayed (for a second time) because people complain? What came first, the chicken or the egg?

Edit- I like how the track map disappears.

Looks great imo...

But I hope it sucks and everyone hates it. That way, less people take part and I can finish in the UK top 20 :sly: Keep hating please

The welcoming part is the bit that worries me the most.

Free translation by myself:
Welcome to the Gran Turismo 5 Time Trial Demo
This is the demo version of Gran Turismo 5, coming 2010.
This test version will allow you to experience the real driving simulation,
which we will present you in the full game.
For more information about this Time Trial Demo, visit www.gran-turismo.com
So that rules out 'they most have left some details out to save space'

I'll try and upload the .flv btw.

Of course it doesnt rule it out.

You do get to drive in the demo. And of course they wanted it to be as small as possible. :dopey:

upgrading my PS3 HD tonight, ready to play this bad boy. roll on the 17th.

Gonna be interesting to see how quickly the posted times tumble (and how different the phyiscs will be over gt5p and gtpsp)

Physics seem slightly improved (car shudders under braking) it looks like it has to be on professional which looks fun. Graphics are clearly held back but it should give some fun until Christmas arrives.

How long before people start testing it for turning under anti lock brakes, low speed physics such as doughnuts and to see if the tail kicks out under acceleration.

My guess is around 3 minutes after release.

I've got some good news about the demo after watching the higher quality .flv:
  • Graphics are not that bad at all, the 'full HD' screens the German site posted are rubbish
  • Psysics seem to be improved (the car's balance even get's upset with ASM on)
  • The road textures on the straight look amazing
  • You can defenately hear the turbo whining, so that's also a good thing for sound

Too bad the crowd does seem completely lifeless, same thing for the flags above the stands. (which are moving in the pre race 'intro')

All in all, I'd like to try this demo. Now.

Come on PD.

Thats just horribly bad compression, what does that have to do with PD?

After watching the youtube video i really like this circuit and would be great to race on, despite not having damage(which has been shown) and animated spectators(which GT4 had:|) this demo looks great.

Now the wait is even more difficult.

so they give us prologue again?

...With greatly improved sound and presumably better physics (I can't judge the physics until I play it)

Those were two of the largest critiscisms of prologue among fans besides lack of damage.

In my view, and I suppose others might see it like this as well, this is a demo for two purposes only, and that is GT academy on one hand and the new physics on the other. It's painfully obvious that they scaled down all the trackside objects, trees, crowd etc.
There's no improvement in sound.(and kazunori said this will be one of the areas with major overhaul!)
There's no special effects(advanced blur,smoke,skidmarks,debris etc).
There's no damage.
You get the point, only physics and time trial is important here and my guess is, it is done like this as not to spoil the wow effect when we finally get the full version of the game! :)
