Since when? A Driving license was required to enter the previous GT academy.

Because if you don't know the basics, how to use the clutch and whatnot, what good are you going to be in a track car with a manual gearbox?

It will be in the terms and conditions i'm sure of it.

I know that.

Check the rules, it's not in there. Can you show me where it said it was required in the last GT academy?

And yes you don't need a drivers license to race on real tracks either (here atleast).

Hmmmm I suppose but.. for all the cars I've driven, getting into a car like that would be almost like starting from scratch anyway.

When i applied for GT academy last time it was there in bold letters on the apply screen; something along the lines of you must be over 18 and hold a full national driving license.

I don't know, maybe it was just for UK. But i re-read it again and again. Eventually i entered and had a go anyway but came nowhere near the time needed :P

Compare this:

With this:

Turn the volume up, there is definite sound improvement.

Yes sound is improved, when changing gears there is more life to the car. I can't wait to hear it on my 7.1 setup!

LOL @ the complaints about damage:

#1 Justification for damage listed on GTP site:
To dissuade other drivers from running into you so as to promote race better racing.

Does anyone else see the issue with the above statement and this TT ?

Surprised the "Livery Editor" crew havnt thrown their 2cents in as well whinging about that not being available in this download. ;)

PD - " Here is a limited release single track, designed for you to get your best possible laptimes on to qualify for the GT Academy"
Punters -" I want to be able to smash my car into the wall and have it fall to bits"

Are you kidding? GT5 cars, GT5 track, GT5 physics... you are right, it doesnt represent GT5 :dunce:

The guy who has the demo at Gaf says that PD told him:

"just got an email saying that this is ONLY for the GT Academy and not a demo from GT5 xD it doesn't serve as a preview or review. they also say that we should not capture videos from it"

Have those apples :)

Yes, the way the car reacts with the curbs, grass seems improved. Also I think the driver in that vid didn't do sooo bad either. 👍

Notice the bumps in the road after turn 11. You don't get that in prologue currently. The car no longer floats along :D

It's hard to tell if the graphics and sound are that much different from these clips. I'm quite interested to see if the shadows in cockpit view have been improved as they were quite blocky and ugly in Prologue.

The main difference is the map which is now more zoomed in to the area of the circuit you are on. Personally I think it's a bit big and would only really come in useful for the Nurbugring where the little map on GT4 just doesn't really give you enough detail as to what's going on. The old map stayed still and just the dots for the cars moved but the whole map moves this time. That could get a bit distracting plus you can't see where the other cars are if they are off the track area shown on screen. Basically, I hope you can turn it off!

You can change the map size in the demo too, I believe. It's seen on the first vid. He changes the "track size" from 200m to 250m or something like that. ;) I think it means the lenght of the "edge of the area" that is seen.

The time trial based ‘GT Academy’ version of Gran Turismo 5, which launches this Thursday, has the Indianapolis Speedway GP Circuit (as we said last week) and is just 220MB, according to reports this morning. The two versions of the Nissan 370z are locked with R1s for the tuned version and N3 for the normal street version and the demo as a whole feels ’stripped down’. Apparently it’s your total time that’s going to be taken into account, so you’ll need to be handy with both versions of the car if you want to succeed.

Info from sixthaxis. The file seems a little small although that means less download time which is always a bitch when it comes from PSN.

There's a slightly visible grid around it, maybe scalable. I don't use the map anyway, i'm sure there'll be options for what you want displayed.

Ah that's good news about the map. 220mb seems way too small, most game demos you get online are around 800mb - 1.2gb and it has to be standalone as it can't pinch bits from prologue but the smaller the better so I can download it and play it quicker :)

Most demos give more content. We get 2 cars 1 track...honestly you can't expect this to be as big as full featured demos

I'm quite impressed in all honesty that they gave us a GT Academy Demo at all! They could have used Prologue again so i'm thankful we'll have something fresh to master over the Christmas period, Theres no need to moan and whine but the smartest person in this thread said something that made me even be thankful for people moaning. Keep on moaning because less of you will play it therefore people who actually care about the Demo will participate and do well. Bring on Thursday!

👍 +1

No matter what some people say, this is fresh: new cars, new track, better sounds, different physics (Though will still bear similarities with Prologue) and all in all a different experience to Prologue.

I still don't think of this as a proper demo.

They are more focused on GT Academy and getting new drivers, which is what this is for. GT Academy is also more popular now.

Agreed, this is not a demo, just a way of attracting upcoming drivers for GT Academy. A demo contains more than this. Sounds and graphics seem exactly the same as prologue, but being that this is a crappy low res video we cannot be 100% sure. Well, at least we have 2 new cars and a new track.
