Great to see some of these improvements in the demo though...definitely can't wait to hear the sounds....but even though this may not be a full representation of the game (obviously), it is still GT5 code according to what we heard last week about the demo from many sources. Yes it is very dumbed down code (just look at the graphics and what not from the show demos), but I'm not worried at all. I'm very excited to play this and the Indy track, but at least I know in my mind that when I get GT5 next year...it will be a masterpiece.

MotoGP use it, but they go the other way round.

Yep thanks, I've just looked up the wiki, MotoGP has a few extra corers too afaict. Nascar uses the oval.

So has this configuration only ever been used for F1 events? although I suppose the other on track activities during an F1 weekend will use it too.

this is not a demo

This is not a Demo.

This is an M&S Demo.

:sly:

Also agree. Some people just don't get that it seems.

Well to a certain extent it is a demo, however it demonstrates little more than Prologue did. For anyone new to the series it is amazing.

I think they're saving the damage/weather and whatnot for the final demo before release when it goes gold. A lot of games have these and i would expect GT to be no exception.

Although it does demonstrate some of the new stuff, it wasn't made to do so. It was made to find a driver for GT Academy.

I don't know... think how many people on here since August/September time have been requesting a 'Christmas' present from PD.

Plus the fact that the Demo is available in North America which is exempt from GT academy for some reason. I think that alone justifies it's purpose as a demo.

Well, that's what many real life race tracks are: dull to look at. Especially when there's only ONE car on the track.

Over Shift there was so much bashing because they included eye candy to spice up things. Now the track is presented "as is".

The official screens of the demo are FAKE AGAIN!!
Compare the shadows on the real thing and what they give us as screenshots before they release it. I'm starting to think they won't fix these things for the whole game. And I'm surely not impressed by them bull****ing us like this.
Sorry for the HUGE image.

Not to mention the grass on Indianapolis is most likely cut extremely short for race days. That is, if its not prosthetic grass like Astro turf or something. So its going to be a flat texture or appear as such.

But those in NA are also vying for a prize, so it is also doing more than just demonstrating the product.

There are some silly complaints floating around. Damage is totally unnecessary to attain PD's desired ends in this situation. 1 car in a time trial does not need damage modelling. If they put it in this demo it'd just be one less thing to impress us in a novel way when the game is released.

I see all these complaints about things which are irrelevant to the point of this release like final version graphics and sound but people gloss over the fact that we get to try the latest build physics which is, correct me if I'm wrong, pretty much the central, key element of a non-arcadey racing game. The window dressing will be there when the house is built but it seems a lot of people aren't even interested in a glimpse at the building's foundation.

Demo isn't even the right word for this release. Demos are what you release to convince people to buy your game and all the recent race game demos I've tried (Dirt, Shift, Grid) want to show off the various features and all that. This is a very specific competitive mode being released precisely to an audience of people who are going to buy the game anyway. It's just a nifty contest for fun (and of course prizes) and is a lot more than most expected us to get from that 'what will PD give us for christmas' thread. Expecting more than that is unreasonable.

Where in the definition does it say a demonstration is limited to demonstrating?

A Demo is a Demo, just because PD said it isnt a Demo doesnt mean it isnt a Demo.

I don't know exactly why and this may appear a little random... But I was really drawn the a certain part of your post:

:scared: That is very, very weird.

On topic:

It seems to me like the original purpose was to release a demo which could be used for the next round of GT academy. It's still a demo, it meets both the needs of the GT academy competitor and the GT fans who wanted some new content.

I also think it shows that the damage model is not completely finished yet. Just a thought.

I must say I'm really loving the way the dashboard gauges lights up and just work together, love PD's way of doing it <3

We also created this demo to showcase the realism of the brand new physics engine which is constantly improving before GT5 releases.

As Gran Turismo fans know, our GT games let you select between standard or professional driving physics and adjust a multitude of driving assists, but to make this a real “challenge” for all you racing fans, the GT5 demo has professional driving physics, and many of the assists are disabled. But don’t worry. Even if this demo seems challenging, you’ll be able to turn on some of those extra assists and enjoy GT5’s 950+ cars, its new and improved online racing, and several other features we have yet to disclose when it comes out.

Well than the fault is completely on the individual if they are let down because they were expecting something more than what PD said it was going to be.

Well said man!👍 I for one am grateful to have this sneak peek at THE PHYSICS ENGINE which is all that is important for this competition.

Mate, I think there's a slight difference between the in-game scrennshots, which are at a higher sample rate, and the ones posted by the gaming site thingy, which probably were taken quite quickly by some not very good equipment. I would even go as far as saying, they simply took them off a TV screen, as the dynamic range seems off. Which is quite a trademark for the GT series, and I don't think they just threw it out of the window.

Now, download the demo if you can, as then judge how bull-pooped you were. Fair enough? ;)

Agreed. Turn 10 could learn something from PD when it comes to gauges, interior lighting, etc..

;)

Notice the bumps in the road after turn 11. You don't get that in prologue currently. The car no longer floats along :D

Hmm, I just watched the video in HD and I'm not sure what you mean, because you can see bumps in GT5P already, however the problem is you can't "feel" them, with a DS3 at least the FFB is just too weak in GT5P. But I guess we'll see on thursday. :)

Oh and after watching in HD, I have the say graphic looks indeed better than Prologue, even the trees... 👍

Precisely what I predicted;) ,just a GT Academy/physics demo with everything else scaled back or turned off, and even physics are just the latest GT5 build which will improve over time!

I am glad the DEMO will have two different tires. This will give much more insight than both cars being on the same tires.
I have a feeling the leaderboard will be much tighter on the tuned Z on R1's over the stock Z on N3's.
