I hope this isn't too off-topic, if so please delete.

<shameless publicity>
For people with Forza 3 who want to have the same 370Z while waiting for the Time Trial Demo to drop, you can get it on my storefront (alba7). Search for 370Z GT Academy
</shameless publicity>
One of the reason why I did it is because I can't wait to play it Q__Q
Bahaha thank you alba I'm gonna get it right now and add you to my xbl.

sorry for double posting

IMO: for the people complaining that the track looks lifeless, (well ofcourse the people in the stands are super 2d) the track never made a big impression on me watching it on TV with the F1 races. It looked flat and lifeless then too. I rather have the nice looking forest of Spa in the demo...

Dude, thats not basic, thats pretty impressive, good job mate! 👍
Didnt knew something like that is possible with YaBasic.

Heh, no, I was well pleased with what I managed to get out of it.

But the cars were each made out of 5 triangles and 4 rectangles iirc. (Includng the wheels!)
And it was written in Basic.

Am I one of the only people who enjoys this track? I'm very happy with how it looks, way better than the F1:CE representation, which is even flatter (especially the 1st/2nd corner).
I always went well at this track in F1, so my hopes are rather high for GT Academy.

Can't wait for Friday and the weekend when I'll spend my time perfecting my times :) I've already been practicing with the 350Z on Fuji in GT5P in preperation as well as F1:CE. 👍

Really, get a grip on yourselves, that's maybe 1% what GT5 will be about what we have seen today. There will be more spectacular tracks, environments, pit-stops, and who knows what.
1% in terms of content maybe, but not 1% in terms of how the game will look and play.

Gran Turismo has always had a beautiful but sterile look to its environments, Polyphony have always had life like car models mixed with expansive but slightly barren appearance.
Nope, that's the problem, GT always had the perfect balance between scenery and cars... somehow that got scrapped with GT5:P, sadly.

I am 99.999% sure that it will update at their usual time of anywhere between 3:00 PM and who knows. In fact, based on past instances of largely anticipated releases I would be willing to bet they have some major issue and not get updated until after midnight (effectively the 18th).
That's true it might get 18th, but I noticed we sometimes get updates here in Germany around midday (11-12) especially if one doesn't expect it. 👍

Not on my Bravia, it didn't. :sly:

Anyway, stepping around the whiners who will probably be playing this thing zealously the first day at least, it's really hard to believe that The Big Day is almost here. I was thinking of not watching any videos to take it all in fresh and unspoiled come Thursday, but... eh, to heck with that.

Oh, and wonderful job there, alba. Sometime today I need to fire up the PS3 and download those goodies from your storefront. I will have to say though that the 370Z is one stumpy, short sports car...

You're not alone. I loved the track in F1:CE as well

I'm REALLY liking this track as well 👍 Despite it being a bit on the sterile side, I absolutely love the technical infield section :sly: I think there will be a pretty large discrepancy in lap times around this track, as the infield is VERY tricky to nail in order to link all the corners together perfectly, and a lot of time can be gained/lost exiting the last corner that brings you back onto the oval section, which might I add is very long.

Damn....I'm looking forward to Thursday more than I am Christmas :)

Edit: I hope the off track penalty system is strict as can be for the demo. Looking at the last corner before the Sector 2 split, if the 4 wheel off track penalty is not strictly enforced, a lot of people will be using as much track as possible to gain a pretty nifty advantage :ill:

Judging by one of the videos I saw in this thread the off track by itself is penalty enough. It seems to be an upgrade of the system used in GT PSP where grass and dirt are near impossible to control without good throttle control and gravel/sand pits make it so you can barely get above 30mph, slowing you down very quickly.

And the best penalty for this is to just not count it and the next lap any time two or more wheels go off track or wall contact is made.

Hahahaha, so I'm not the only one :D Hell I love the track, I've always done well there myself so I'm extremely confident. Gimme mah tickets nao!!! :mischievous:

After watching the video, I am sure we wont be in the grass in the infield because of the viscous curbs+the new physics make it seem like it is impossible to put 1 wheel into the grass and still get a good lap time. I am hoping the new physics will limit the traction on grass, unlike GT5P 👎

Edit- Upon a closer look at TA's concern, if the concrete on the inside of the curb is part of the track, there will be a lot of curb hopping!

@Snake206 below- great work! The track looks like it is supposed to 👍

The whole thing has been gone about in the wrong way I think. GT fans are desperate to get a hold of any info about the game and when news of a 'demo' was heard everyone got excited. This upcoming download is not a demo of GT5, it's a GT academy time trial with 1 track and 2 cars and it is using the GT5 physics engine with 2 GT5 cars and 1 GT5 track. Like the Ferrari video used the GT engine but that's not what the game will actually look like.

What concerns me is the previous damage model we saw. Did PD show that and think that the damage was done and then when criticism came in they said it wasn't finished? I get the impression that people think the graphics and sounds and track we see in this time trial are it and that is what the final game will look like and some people are expecting more. I hope PD don't take any criticism too literally and delay anything.

They obviously wanted to open up the competition to everyone with a PS3 and not just those with Prologue but I think it would have been easier to update Prologue with the new physics and the Indy track and hold it in that to save any trouble. Releasing anything with GT5 in the name without the Prologue is always going to be looked at as a partial representation of the final GT5 game.

What is Viscous about the kerbs? Are they sticky and have a high resistance to flow? :sly:

Vicious is the term i think. And by the looks of one of the vids, penalties arn't given but laps are invalidated if you go off the track.

We'll just have to see for those corners with concrete/tarmac on the inside, hoperfully 4 wheels off the track is an instant invalidation.

A little comparison that I made

Great work! GT5 version looks dead on!

I think PD really does use some kind of laser scan to measure the track.

To really find out, let me see if there is a iRacing video lap time of the same track and compare it with gt5 demo.

It will definitely be a tricky corner either way...and a fairly important one at that :dopey:

If they do red flag the lap for putting 4 wheels over the white line (at the exit of that corner), then you will have guys trying to get the absolute maximum out of the track (as always), by placing the car perfectly over the rumble strip as they exit the corner...of course in order to keep two wheels within the white line. By my judgment it doesn't look like you'll need to hop the curb to maximize the legal width of the track...because the curbing starts late enough to where you can naturally let the car drift out and get it placed directly over the curbing as you start to straighten the wheel out 👍

But if they don't red flag the lap for putting 4 wheels off I don't think the curbing will be much of an issue with getting a clean exit, as you can probably let the car drift out upon exiting and clear the beginning of the curbing by a few inches.

Definitely looks like a fun challenge though :)

Kaz takes it wide, well, he doesnt hit the curb. Also, at 1'40 in the video, he comes really close to leaving the curb and being on the concrete on the inside of the curb. Obviously that isnt the fastest way around that particular turn, but it may indicate that any solid surface is legal, but it prob wont matter because it isnt the fastest route. I couldn't tell if he actually left the curb though.

Couldn't agree more......

On wednesday night, the XBox360, Forza 3 and Wheel get removed from the stand.... looking forward to a fresh little tidbit to tide me over for a few more months.

..same first video, same impressive driver... still glitched, but a liiiiiiiiittle better quality..

While this doesn't really contribute quite alot, I figured I'd translate what it says on the screen in the menu just because I was curious:

On the screen it reads:

"Willkommen zu der Gran Turismo 5 Zeitfahren-Herausforderung
Das ist die Demoversion des kommenden Gran Turismo 5, das 2010 erscheint.
Bei dieser Testversion können Sie bekanntschaft mit der echten
Fahrsimulation machen, welche wir ihnen in der Vollversion präsentieren.
verschiedenen Ländern zu erhalten, besuchen Sie:

"

After some Translating(not the best mind you), it reads:

"Welcome to the Gran Turismo 5 time driving challenge That is the demo version of the coming Gran Turismo 5, which appears 2010. With this test version you know acquaintance with the genuine Driving simulation make, which we present them in the full version.
different countries to receive, you visit:

"

40 gameplay screenshots.
I'll post a 60Fps 720P tomorrow.

Here is what I posted on twitter a few hours ago:
some infos
road course indy
rotation map hud
normal car n3/n3
tuned car r1/r1
realtime pilot shot during replay

I'd add that the physics is different from Prologue (The demo features Professional Physic only).
And the tire sounds have been resampled :dunce:

Appearantly your not supposed to post screen captures and videos, considering the demo is coming out in 3 days its a fair request. furthermore it seems to be more of a physics purposed demo, which is great.

Don't worry ;)
No embargo on this one...
