From the look of the pics, and what we've been hearing, it seems that the Standards are the high-detail Photo Mode cars from GT4, and not the gameplay models that most people are assuming they are. Which won't put them all that far behind the Premiums, really, except for the interiors.

Umm, who was assuming they were?
Some people here really lack reading comprehension skills.

I said it before and I'll say it again, standards are fine in motion. The PSP intro movie has a lot of GT5 footage and features plenty of standard cars

Yea i went to best buy and saw another GT5 Trailer and saw some Standard cars they looked good, however during the trailer Premiums raced with premiums while standards raced standards.

You should have got some pics or vids. Would've been nice to see.

If GT PSP allowed you to put wheels on car and they added an update with skidmarks I would go buy the game right now. But sadly, I doubt there will ever be an 'update' for GTPSP

I know right, I believe support for GT psp is done. Ofcourse I still love playing it. Great way to pass time while on break at work.

Ahhhh!!! I thought I just saw a GT5 commercial but it turned out just to be a Cadillac commercial. It had the new Cadillac sedan driving on the Ring. It screamed GT5 all the way until the very end.

Really? I didn't need to pause and "hunt for pixels" to notice the difference right off the bat. The "only" problem with GT4 models is how dated they look now compared to premiums plus the obvious lack of cockpit view.

This is my philosophy,
You may see a difference in Premiums and standards, however this difference is and can be a positive thing. The difference is set out because of how Incredible and over the top Premiums actually are, not because the standards are low quality and not up to par. That difference can actually be seen, its ignorant for anyone to say its not, an example of this can be the closeup of the miura rims (Back at Gamescom?), that shot had incredible detail, and im sure none of the standards will feature that level of perfection. However the standards themselves don't look bad at all. I don't like calling them GT4 models either, because they look nothing like them. Comparing the standards to GT4 models, you will notice huge differences. Which is secured with concrete, because GT4 was played on a 480i standard television back in 2004/05, and majority hadn't played it in 1080i. Therefore if you were to play GT4, and then race with the standards in GT5, they would be completely different. Nobody should relate the two.

People should be mad at the premiums being so detailed. Because thats the only reason the standards are being looked down upon.

Its a good thing, I will be happy with all 1000 as well.

I hate to contribute to this debate, but...

I still play the heck out of GT4 and play it at 1080i on an hdtv. There is no comparison. Yes, they are the models (if I understand correctly) from GT4, but they have been upscaled a lot.

Plus, here is the kicker, to me. If we are going to have 200+ premiums, then that is a lot. And when given the choice of having those 800+ standards, or not... I think the choice is obvious.

I will be driving every car that will help me get through GT Life. And as long as the standards use the same physics (which they will) and have mechanical damage (which they do), then I will be more than happy.

+1

As far as I'm concerned, this post pretty much ends the discussion. There is no reason to not use the standards, and I will enjoy them just as much as the premiums.

GT4's 1080i mode isn't true 1080i, but some trickery PD pulled off to be able to achieve it in a PS2. Have a look here for a great, and easy to understand, explanation on how it works.

The only reason why standards look better in GT5 is the different, and much improved, rendering engine.

By the way, GT5's 1080p isn't true 1080p either, mind you.

Dont know if anyone has noticed this yet but if you have a look at this video and skip to 8:50, you can see a player on the right what looks like to be driving the new fiat 500 switching between high and low beam lights when pressing a button on the steering wheel.

Can we please, please take the talk of Standard/Premium to the appropriate thread? So at the very least, the people who are insisting that Standards aren't ported over models from GT4 can be wrong elsewhere? *

* - No mention of them looking "bad".

I imagine since we got a PSP commercial (and there's the We Love Cars" one in Japan), North America will hopefully get a GT5 commercial airing soon :)

You evil bastard. How dare you use that word!

It's true! The commercial is almost done! It's at 90%, they can release whenever they want!

Guys, did anyone ever figure out what "car delivery" means?

I speculated that new cars (opposed to used cars which would be immediately available) aren't delivered instantaneously as in previous games, but the player will have to wait as in real life (depending on many factors as demand, rareness, etc. If the player will be able to "order" only one model of the same car at a time, this would prevent floods of Ferraris, Lamborghini and other popular supercars) and when the wait will be over they will appear in that menu. Others speculated that it might be used to send cars to other users.

Considering it is located in the "GT Life" screen, I would take the former over the latter. Personally, I think your idea is very plausible. Also, I have a hunch that we will choose a "home city" of some kind. So, the car delivery could tie into that as well.

Edit: Also, remember the truck "delivering" the FT-86 in that trailer? Here is the link for those who forgot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F4v6qWY3u0

which, if they do the "trim options" thing, that would actually make sense. But there are a couple other ideas: 1. If B-spec Bob and Sally can run races while we're away, then the the "car delivery" icon could be the cars they've won while you were away.

The other idea is it simply could be an indicator as to how many cars you've won while you've been racing. I know from GT4, I would sometimes do three or four races with the same car, and get several new cars.

Oh man c'mon! You just buy the car and it appears in "car delivery", then you click on it and watch the "delivery movie" similar to intro in Toyota FT-86 trailer...Maybe special cars will have "special" movie.Used cars may have it's own. Also standard cars may get "standard" car delivery or not have it at all...;)
