The problem some people have with the constant "Kaz has said sound will improve" defense is that he's always said that. For years. And the sound has always been weak. A few cars seem to improve, while others just sound awful (the Vette C5R being a great example).

Put yourself in his shoes though; if you were asked "are these sounds really the final deal?", in a critical tone, would you really say "yep"? I'm honest enough with myself to know that even if they were, I would say they're going to be improved.

Sound is a pretty integral part of a racing game, so I do hope a lot of quality work was invested in it, but I really don't expect GT5 to make some leaps-and-bounds improvements over past installments, sadly.

fair enough, well i remember hearing improvements from the gamescon demos compared to e3's, so to me the sounds seem to have improved.

but I still stand by my rant directed to those who are complaining about shadows..

It actually is relatively weak compared to the 360s GPU. It only has 256mb of dedicated RAM. The 360 has twice as much to work with, 512.

Uncharted 2 was built differently than most games, it relies more on the CPU, but as you can see from that GT5 vid, its not built the same way. Its using the GPU to render those shadows, and you can see the result. 360 games do not look like that. There are no higher end 360 games that have shadows that look like that. The 360 GPU is strong in almost every way.

But this is Sony's biggest game, why does it look like this? After 4 years, I dont get it.

"Xbox 360 has the advantage in most cases."

GPU's have nothing to do with shadow detail. Its video ram, 256 can only go so far without sacrificing. The NV70 can do high res shadows, its the game design. Please stop pretending you know anything about how games runs. The RSX isn't weak, if it is the ATI core in the 360 slim is slightly less weak....

I don't care to debate about shadows. It's useless to me. Definitely, they're great to have looking good, but I'd rather be racing 15 others than worried about some little jagged edges of shadows from trees or buildings. I'm not too big on the sound thing either. Hook it up through a Sony entertainment system, with dolby surround and you'll have some sweet sounding engines tire screeches etc. Of course nothing can be definitive from these demos. They're on youtube played through our computer speakers or headphones. The sound is compressed though. Because each of these videos is off screen unless someone can have a direct capture vid. I don't think I've seen one. Even so, these are demos so we aren't sure if the final game will sound like these or not. But I have faith in PD and Kaz, I think the sounds will be different than previous games and they'll be more accurate than other racing games with their overblown engine noise.

Hi all im getting nervous too... lets hope it's not delayed in PAL reigons
Id like to add put a final stop to all this **** about the shadows looking like sick on a plate and the engines sounding like a whale giving birth.........
do any of the people who have posted those gripes know that the audio quality on youtube is not always up to scratch..... and that the quality of the video's are not all in hd and will look jaggy as the video is most likely downscaled....
it drives me nuts all they do is complain.... it takes ages to get a game look as good as GT5 now you complain
stop crying and wait for release and then complain if you have real proof of bad visuals in the game displayed on your telly
IMO if GT5 is delayed in S.A its not that bad as it'll give me time to play Fallout New Vegas :sly:

Anyone tipped major gaming sites such as IGN and Gamespot about a possible delay? I have a feeling they could get a clear answer from Sony pretty quickly.

You posted that link 20 minutes ago, what's the point of doing it again?
I think they call that spamming around these parts.

People where ranting about shadows and crap :/

no one talked about finally seeing the top gear track lap for the first time :(

also, is it confirmed you can adjust car settings while driving?

i randomly saw that (at 0:45) and went wtf? i guess this has already been debated since its an old video?

yea i could change the settings with the GT wheel, not sure if it's going to work with the g27 though. But i like the nob that the GT wheel has, it's like ferrari's manettino system

OK, how can you guys not understand how a piece of equipment like a PS3 works.

A PS3 only has so many capabilities. So, factor in these things that are ALL computing at once when you are driving:

-Super hi-res cars
-Top of the line physics model
-Picturesque race tracks
-Dynamic weather including rain, wind, temperature, humidity, etc... (varying by track)
-Car noises
-Dust
-Damage model (both mechanical and visual)
-15 other cars on the track besides your own
-HUD
-Music
-Shadow rendering
-Maintain 60 frames per second

Something has to give in this situation. Let's face it, everything is going to be top-notch for the most part. Some cars may not sound perfect, but even bad car sounds still factor into the computing equation. So, to maintain all those functions at once and still maintain the 60 FPS, shadows may be a little jagged.

Big deal. If they took away any other details you'd complain more than jagged shadows.

But, doesn't PS3 have two GPUs to the 360s one?

One GPU, an insane CPU which technically doubles it i guess since graphics programing is done on the cpu aswell...

and i guess i've been out of the loop for a while XD

aw well, at least i pleased some one XP

Right, because many racing game struggle to do all of the above.

Ah. I thought I read somewhere that the PS3 was going to have dual graphics cards. Maybe they had to get rid of one because of the...umm...overheating problem. Although, that was with the Cell Processor. Because of it's powered the PS3 uses two types of cooling: the massive processor fan and liquid cooling...and it still runs hot.

Well, dynamic Rain, dynamic time, physics (for some), Gt5 uses a few extra snazzy effects like light on particles, damage is not modeled but simulated few do that, and i doubt most cars in racing games would stand up to a 18mp picture with pride.

True, yet as long as its not killing it self(aka. instant shut down), it thinks its heat is fine. If its happy i'm happy...
