I had both when I did GT4's 24hr races - working full time, playing hockey every Saturday, family engagements on a Sunday. I completed them with the pause button.

Wish I could pause my life sometimes.

Some of the lap times for GT4 around the ring were simply out of this world. I hope that GT5 has some sort of limitations in terms of running your cars with tunes online. I know there were some guys who could do 300mph+ with the Toyota GT-One etc. I could never get past 255mph. I donno how they'll go about holding rules in race rooms, but i do wonder if they'll have 'endurance' races online. That would be nuts.

But what I don't understand is why the pause button is acceptable to apparently everyone, but the notion of saving the race provokes a lot of hostility from people here. Is there really something so glorious about wasting electricity while you're off doing the more important things in life?

Goddammit, where is the release date! Get up with it and go to bed. Can not wait any longer! October and November are even more poor quality games. Enslaved alone can give me a little busy.

Nobody has connections with Lucas Ordonez?
I thought he was a special guest at the Madrid launch event.
If the party isn't taking place next week,
I bet he would know by now ?

And another thing..
"On a similarly positive note, I have been privately informed that review copies of GT5 were only briefly postponed and should still be in reviewer’s hands within the next few weeks. I can also report Sony is targeting a new release window within approximately 8-12 days after November 26th (“Black Friday” in the United States)."

Does this news come from sources not mentionned? And reliable sources?

So did I back than.
This time around I'll have to share my PS3 with my girlfriend who has different working hours than I do and also like to play games and watch movies on the PS3.

So for me a save option would be most welcome

With a two-year-old son who has a love of Thomas the Tank Engine DVDs, there's simply no way that I can leave my PS3 unattended while I go to work, and expect my race to still be running when I get home!

Looks like nowaday's kids are really born into the digital world

Some news!

http://www.racesimcentral.com/news/

contacted our Sony rep right away to find out what was going on and to see if we could get a quote, or visit their local studio to do some hands on testings. He mentioned they would be at SEMA (Specialty Equipment Market Association) in November.

On November 3rd at the SEMA show in Las Vegas, Kazunori Yamauchi will be on hand for the 8th year in a row to present the Gran Turismo Award. The Gran Turismo Awards at SEMA recognizes the best vehicles in five different categories: Best Hot Rod, Best Asian Import, Best European Import, Best Domestic Automobile, and Best Truck/SUV.

After the five category winners are judged and selected on performance and style by the media, Kazunori Yamauchi will then select the overall GT Awards “Best in Show.”

The winners of this award are then included as part of the Gran Turismo franchise for the world to drive. Could this by why GT5 is delayed ? Nah…

I was told we will be able to interview him sometime during SEMA. This will be our third attempt at getting Kazunori on camera and it looks like it will be Jessica trying this time. I mentioned to our Sony rep that our show would be the perfect platform for Kazunori to tell the world in detail, why GT5 is delayed.. Again.. It replied with.. “Let’s definitely aim to hook up at SEMA and we can take care of you for an interview with Kazunori.”

Of course we’ll be there to try and get that interview and to do more hands on testing as well of the most anticipated and delayed racing title probably in the history of racing sims. Will it be worth the wait?

Totally understand.

I too would benefit from the pause & save option, but...

It does take the pressure away from the race, which will make the 'win' seem less satisfying..

At least with the pause-only option, it makes GT feel much more like a living beast - will my endurance race still be there when I get back???

Kinda adds to the thrill. but admittedly horrible for the environment!

^ Haha yeah. I still remember my mum turning GT4 off while I was at school, after we asked her about 5 times not to. Then we tried again the next day and the cleaner un-plugged it. So we tried again and left it on overnight, but the car had done so many miles by this time, the chassis was so pulverised that we couldn't finish the race. Finally we (me and my brother) A-specced the whole thing the next weekend in a completely new car - probably the best race I ever had on GT4. Would it have felt as good if I could just save it any time? Would it be as memorable? Some of these things shouldn't be too convenient.

OK' let's not try and figure out when the new release date will be but lets see who can guess when they will announce it.

I think it will be announced this week, that will have given Sony enough time to rearrange their production schedule.

Regarding the 24 Hour or any other endurance races, I think there is no "correct" way of doing it. I prefer to do it online with friends in the same team, doing driver changes when pitting. If that's not possible with GT5 then I hope that you can use B-spec drivers as your teammeates. I would also like to have a save options for those who want it, like the old 24 Hour Lemans Game on PC and PS2.

I asked him and he said it's still on, but date is TBC.

So what happened to this menu? I don't see it in the video...
I have a theory that the Gamestop videos are of a really old build... notice also there is no rain and night time icon, even though it's on the same theme. And the allowed time of day is different as well.

I mentioned this before, It was suggested the GT official shots were mockups. But I'm inclined to agree with you.

Ok my eagle eye spotted something interesting :)
That set of icons on the top left of the pic appears in the bottom left HUD of the Gamestop track creator video, but the white sections on the side of the car icon overlay are a single unbroken piece instead of the 2 blocks on either side in the pic. And they also move at 0:52....

it might be due to compression artifacts
