Do you really think that they're not in a hurry? There's no way that they're going to sit on GT5 if it's done (and there are many indications that it is). They'll get it out as soon as they possibly can. They typically only release one big game a month as it is, and in the first two months of next year they have LBP2 and KZ3. They have other games that are scheduled for 2011 that can fit into a March slot (like a SOCOM 4 or inFamous 2). It doesn't make sense financially to have your biggest franchise skip Christmas if you can have it ready by then (which is where the shareholders come in).

WHY? People go crazy on black friday cause they "think" everything is cheap, they don't go out to buy regularly priced items.
Well for one thing it could easily break the record for sales in the first week if it were released on Nov 23rd.

GT5 will not break any 1st day records, it's not that kind of game.

Do you really think that they're not in a hurry?.

At this point, no. I don't think they give a crap, or Kaz doesn't at least.
Whether you think this makes sense or not, releasing the game only 2 weeks after BLACK OPS will hurt initial sales, delaying those casual gamers.

I see where you are going with that and you have a point. But, that is an over-simplification of "Black Friday". It also misses the point that a lot of holiday shopping is done starting that week.

Call of Duty (virtua cop 7), will destroy GT5 in terms of sales, I have no doubt about that. Loads of people I know are buying COD, to them it's become a yearly habbit, a fear of not being left behind when all their friends are playing it online. I will personally not be buying it. I bought the last one and my IQ dropped quite considerably after playing it. I only know 2 people who will buy GT5 and one of them is me.

No, it doesn't miss that point. That cheap stuff mostly ends up under the tree. It's like you're saying they shop on black friday weekend and then nothing happens in the weeks between it and christmas.

I only know of one person buying it and that is me. Except for the other 143,098 Registered Users of GTPlanet. Plus or minus a few. :)

Why wouldn't Kaz want it out as soon as possible. Do you think that he enjoys being asked about its release in interviews? He's going to be at two upcoming shows (Paris Games Week and SEMA) and if a date isn't set by then he's going to be bombarded with questions about it.

As far as BO impacting its sales, Assassin's Creed 2 was released 1 week after MW2 and it's currently sitting at 9 million units sold (and in its first month it was over 1 million in the US). Being released in November or December is money for developers. That's why so many big releases pile up in those months. There are so many families buying games that you're going to get a lot of sales through their period.

we'll see...

AC2 didn't sell as fast as the first game. That's why I said COD will affect initial sales. Plus asassin's creed games are 15-20 hr games. I still got them cause it took a few days to beat it not weeks/months like GT games. You can have AC and it won't take away from more time consuming games.
When is Kaz not bombarded with questions? As usual, if there is no release date by then, they'll ask the interviewers to not ask any release questions or mention the delay. Problem solved.

How? when call of duty is not a racing game, the way you say it makes it seem like nobody knows what other games exist when a call of duty game comes out. Sales will be just fine when the game comes out regardless of what other genre of game is out.

it's pretty much saying Taylor swift's new album will obliterate Coldplay's new album sales which is in a different genre

In the US it was but i'm not sure about Europe and that's the games biggest territory. But it's worth pointing out the sales of games in general rise greatly during November and December and then fall after that. This is why so many companies push their games into those two months. They know that people will be spending money for Christmas and that after that there really won't be much money to go around (which is why the early part of the year is generally dead for gaming).

No real news in past week and only few days in october left for promised announcment of release date - from a marketing view Sony's public relations are a mess. I guess they think silence is better than any small bit of news or even a tiny apology. But it isn't - I believe there would be far less angry fans ou there if Sony would say 'sorry, we screwed up because of this or that, please wait a little more' But no, they just hope silence will hide their shame like a fog. You don't do PR like that - even mom 'n' pop bussineses have better PR. Is this media silence part of japanese culture of 'saving face' or they have really, really incompetent PR? I'm really puzzled over this.

Ok, I sound like a great whiner in previous post. I really love GT series and respect tremendous effort that went in it's production, I respect PD and Kaz, but Sony's marketing efforts are really puzzling me.
Could somebody enlighten me?

Sorry if I'm going off the current topic, but I can easily see the MCR song implemented in the intro of GT5. The music itself may not sound good, but when paired with (what will probably be) a fast paced intro, I believe it will fit. First thoughts of video were "Daytona speedway, multiple NASCARS in one group, several quick, successive shots." IMHO.

I'm actually starting to think the same thing. I don't like the song... but if the editing is cut to match it (quick cuts on the beat, slow-mo at appropriate times, etc etc), it could at least be... bearable. I don't like the opening cinematic for Prologue, at least musically, but combined with what I'm seeing, I at least appreciate how they compliment each other.

...would still rather have Moon Over the Castle though...

What's frustrating me is the lack of marketing buildup for GT5. To my knowledge we are STILL yet to see any gameplay footage of the final build. Even at marketing events for GT5, people are playing the older model. PD and Sony have stopped releasing/leaking further information about the game, the best we have is "Turismo Tuesday", which last week was a wallpaper of the SLS (a bit of a let down).

Even something minor like a 30 second video of a few cars on a new track would be enough to keep people interested during the 'silence'...

It's amazing that, this late in development, we still really don't know alot about the game. They've held their cards very close to their chest.

I vaguely recall Kaz himself, apologized to his fans on his twitter account.

Hm, Kaz's personal apology couldn't be counted as a real marketing effort from Sony, couldn't be? I respect him for it, but we should hear something official from Sony too, and, more importantly, a new release date.

yeah well hopefully we'll hear something by friday do you have any guesses?

We have too many guesses and quasi-expert predicitons already (a la: guy I know said that his favourite online game store announced a final release date based on a fortune teller's prediction from tarot cars which must be so true because it fits in post-haloween pre-christmas game buying period, bla, bla) - but no reliable info whatsoever.

Like someone else said, I have a feeling we'll get a release date this week, or we're looking at 2011 release.

I don't think you can start a big enough marketing push for a game like GT5 if an announcement on a release date is in November, because that means the release date is pushed back to at least the last week of November, but more likely much later...depending on how soon in November we hear something.

The whole phenomenon called GT5 has been one lie after another from PD/Sony, and it's not only related to release dates.

I'll be getting it on release day no doubt, but Sony/PD are making this more comical with each passing week.

I agree. If we don't get the date at the Paris event, then I will be worried.
