B-Spec Bob has me tearing my hair out in the Monaco Historic race. I got Silver a while ago, but now that I'm level 27 B-Spec and have a level 25 driver with an up arrow, I decided to try again.

Yeah, he's still an idiot. I thought he was getting better, but he's still really stupid on that track. I don't notice it other places, but man, he's dumb. That chicane after the downhill, and then the corner just before the S/F straight, the AI plows into those constantly.

You'd think he'd learn not to pass on the inside there, but no, he still tries. He even hits the inside wall when he's alone. Really? You take such a bad line that you just smack the wall? Here's a Top Gear Top Tip, you can't cut a corner close when it's a wall.

A few tips, sharing knowledge I also got from others.

1. I don't know what car you are using but I think only 1 of 2 cars (toyota 7 and chaparral 2J) can consistently fight for the win here in B-Spec.

2. Race start - During the countdown, press "Increase Pace" as soon as you can, so the slider moves to the right (red) section. It will wake up Bob, usually asleep in that moment.

3. Bar any unusual happening, there are only 3 overtaking chances in each lap. S/F straight; uphill immediately after; downhill immediately after. keep you patience during the rest of the lap.

4. Stressing the obvious. If you tell your driver to overtake in the tunnel, expecting him to do it downhill into the chicane ... you might as well quit the race immediately. Your driver will hit the wall and be stuck there for a while.

5. Same applies to any overtaking attempt before the S/F straight. just DON'T order it.

6. If you resist ordering overtakes in the wrong places, there's no harm in keeping your driver well in the red zone. If he isn't (almost) fully red and nose-to-tail with the car in front of him just before the S/ straight, it's very difficult that he can successfully complete the pass until corner 1.

All this applies to the TOYOTA 7. If you are lucky/rich enough to get yourself a Chaparral 2J, you can leave Bob doing the race all by himself, he'll win without help.

Hope this helps! :)

I know the XJ-13 can be won, but what about the other two cars? Only choice is to buy them for 20million each, or do they appear used or as rewards somewhere?

If your bob is as fast as to pressure the #1 car in the race from the start on the AI of the #1 car will run out of strength before the 6. lap. You can switch over to the camera of the #1 car and check his strength. When your bob has more bar leftover than the A.I. he can and will win. That may require a lvl 30+ bob, don't remember, but the 2J fast car (looks like a rocket car somehow) got pressured by my bob and spun out in front of bob just before the finish line. Bob won :) Yey :) Took a while tho ...

I even got Bob to win the first Formula GT race, but I can't repeat it ...

Somehow I get the feeling the B-Spec is actually more about setup than some people thought it would be.
Bob CAN and WILL win even fights, and he CAN win even if he has less HP than the others in the race, because the others are setup non-optimal.

I am gonna write some B-Spec Guide soon ... I really do like it :)

Yeah, I'm using the Toyota 7 with a setup from a Historic race thread, specifically for B-Spec Monaco. Maybe I need to cool him down a bit. I've been running him full red because at high levels he seems to be better at full red. It usually takes him too long to fight through the traffic so he's not pressuring the 2J in front very much, it's usually just driving away. He can make up a huge gap on it, but then can't get around.

As for the Formula GT races, there's a thread around somewhere with a setup. My Bob won the championship easily. 1st place in every race. He's better at driving that car than I am.

Just wondering if someone can create a official thread for connection problems, I couldn't connect to gt5 servers last few days and, it took a lot of searching to find a solution to try. i finally found a fix by entering my dns numbers manually and that fixed the problem. Official thread my be helpful for ppl having connection issues...

Thx~!

I wish I could drive the B-spec races. All the nice 6-10 lap races with soft tires. Why are all series so short in A-spec I mean c´mon sometimes there is only one race???

Finally beat the Historic Race event with the Chaparral 2J Race Car, never thought such a boxy looking car would handle so well. This event was harder than I thought; trying to pass the Chaparral 2J or the Toyota 7 was quite challenging if you don't have either car.

Today it was my first day I had no fun with GT5 :/

The A-Spec events suck so much without limits for the car you choose... Top gear special event also sucks, the AI turns you always around with this stupid bus... What a fat waste of time to make that vw bus premium but no single RUF as premium...

Try doing it in a Mach 1... :D

Although I managed to get consistent second placings with it.

There is a way to gold it without fear of being turned around, this involves a bit of bumper car racing but in the spirit of Top Gear I think this is acceptable. Here is a hint to get you started, don't brake at all for the first corner.

There are a lot of shady areas for that challenge. For example, you can knock certain cones with getting DQed, but not certain other cones. You can bump the other cars certain ways, but not certain other ways. Too much randomness.

Does anyone know if finishing last in an endurance race still gets you XP? I just finished the 4 hour Tsukuba race and was thinking about doing it again to help the grind.. only this time if i do 1 lap and then leave it run for the four hours and then drive across the line...

Yes, you get XP but not much.

I haven't done B spec at all but doesn't B spec also add XP? If so wouldn't letting your B spec driver running around be a better way to gain XP and win you cars at the same time?

Good morning.

A-spec/B-spec have separate XP values.

We should be able to drive the endurance races with friends online or the bob's. None of these options are available...

That would actually make B-spec worthwhile, if we could team up with Bob for an endurance event it would be an incentive to get him more experience.

You can vote for the best driving game of 2010 here.

I voted for Hot Pursuit for best racing game, it indeed is.

I think its safe to say we who are disappointed in GT5 are in the minority - only the hardcore fans who have been following its development from the beginning.

Looking at the casuals and general gaming community, their opinions think its one of the best simulators this generation putting all the flaws aside.
