If the leader boards were online optional (opt-in to run and to read) they could do anything... as in everything. Every car, every track, combo etc.

A system were you could just do some laps (offline), compare times between your own cars, even different tunes etc. and then an option to read the online results, or "go online" with that car/tune on that track.

Not: Practice->Time trial offline OR Online Time trial. Join them, but only go online on demand.

What I hated on Prologue time-trial, was having to be offline from PSN or to put up with the darn thing loading everything from the leader boards upon entry, uploading every time a did a run, telling me how I sucked etc. This just overloads the servers with everyone that selects the time-trial, even by accident or simple curiosity.

Another thing... TT stock or (fully) tuned. No PP stuff. There is no point. One car WILL be faster on each track, no matter what. Racing, yes. PP will help level the field, and in traffic or through different trajectories, you can have great battles (I remember epic stuff with Z06, GTR and 430 on HRS).

This way you could have all the TT leaderboards you wanted (the more the merrier, I guess, more top spots to go around), but load only the ones you want, thus making individual connections faster(?) and prevent the global server overload that would occur if they tried this now, and which makes this impossible, and current online mode only barely bearable at the moment.

It's now the 23rd in Aus and the main menu is playing Lounge styled Christmas tunes. By main menu I mean the one before selecting GT mode (as it reverts back to regular music then). They're much better than the regular songs too :P.

Sorry but I have to say it:if you find Spanish players in the public room leave it immediately !every time I race with them they throw me out!,very very unfair players!

Sounds like a lot, but in the end it's just data and parameters.. very possible i think.

Well mate, it could be data and parameters as you may suggest but it is potentially a data base with hundreds of billions of records just using the most basic parameters: cars x tracks x users = records. Using a very gross calculation of 1000 cars, 71 tracks, 5 million users you get :

1000 X 71 X 5000000 = 355000000000

Gran turismo probably have more users than the amount of copies sold, and I'm using just the 5+ million copies sold figure for the first 2 weeks.

While it's true that not all users will place on-line records and those who do it will still not place a record for every track on every car the amount of data that needs to be handled is still outrageous. I don't know the other hidden parameters neither.

I'm a system's engineer my self and I can confidently tell you that building a modestly performing infrastructure to support such a huge amount of data will require more than 5 million dollars just having it, supporting it its a different story. It's my understanding that PD invested 60 millions creating Gran Turismo, 5 millions is about 8% of that figure.

I don't honestly think PD will be able to provide a service like this for free, and given that I don't live in a country that's even on the PSN supported ones, I'm very happy with what PD has done for me.

As long as they have the leader boards for completely stock cars, then It should work. When you enter time trial, I think there should be an option to go completely stock to upload your time.

But Prologue was "just a demo." It was less than 1% of the cars.

You mean less than 10%. 73/1031=~7%. Prologue's leaderboards were done on a fairly large scale. There was a large userbase, and a reasonable selection of cars and tracks.

If they want to limit it to only the cars available in Arcade or something, I could understand that. 1031 cars and 71 tracks IS a lot.

But no. We get TWO. Really, why even bother if you're only going to have two.

This is........ARGHHHHHHHH...........PD do something about your servers, 3 days of this rubbish now, it's driving me crazy.

I just heard a Jazz version of Jingle Bells playing in GT5 on the main menu screen....
Me thinks v1.05 added more stuff than we realise :D

Guys, I have a question.
I played online and choose one of the 52 available cars.
It is not possible to add parts to these cars and to tune them, isn't it?

What do you mean? People from Spain or people that speaks spanish?

I look at it this way, if a European says "Spanish people" they mean Spain, if a North American says "Spanish people" they mean, all of South America and possibly Spain.:)

Hey guys sorry couldnt find a trading forum (if there is such a thing) but I have two Toyota 7s in my garage and I would be willing to trade 1 for a modern le mans equivalent, sauber merc, peugeot 908, r92cp etc, If any body is interested my psn id is tillbot8, sorry if this was posted in the wrong place.

True - I'd say if your hear somebody in the USA referring to "Spanish people" they generally mean somebody from South or Central America along with Mexico.
