Well, when pushing a console to the limit it should be expected. Other games have many flaws themselves, just never fixed. Be grateful.

The "thanks" is both sarcastic and serious. But again, it just looks terrible in my opinion (to have to constantly patch an already sub-par title).

They do no harm and provide a better choice of cars for us to race and enjoy.
They ruin any pretenses of polish in the game, they would likely be excluded from future new features (ie. Livery Editor, enhanced visual and mechanical customization, improved sound) in the franchise just as they continue to be for GT5, they are less usable from a functionality standpoint, and the overwhelming majority of cars with issues are Standard. I really like a lot of Standard cars too; but I don't like them enough to put up with their problems in another game nor do I want PD to take time away from Premium-related things to screw around making Standards look a little bit outdated.

I totally disagree. Standard cars should remain if they can't be updated to premium. They do no harm and provide a better choice of cars for us to race and enjoy. Getting rid of them altogether would seem like I backward step rather than a forward one in my opinion.

If GT6 was in PS4 they would be 2 generations old. Crazy.

I think PD should aim for consistency across the board, tracks as well as cars. Even if it is on PS3.

What I want out of GT6. I got inspired by the IGN article here and decided to add my own version of it. Thought this was the best place to post this, as its something of a wishlist but this is "general discussion"

Make the game for PS4. The PS3 is rapidly approaching the end of it's life and the PS4 is just right around the corner. The PS3 already struggles to handle GT5 as it is. With PS4 PD can keep the GT5 car models but optimize the lighting and anti aliasing for an even better graphical presentation on the PS4. Don't waste time remodeling the cars and tracks. They look fine as they are. Any extra horsepower from the PS4 should be used to add more cars on track or fixing graphical issues GT5 had

Corner workers/marshalls need to look much better and need to be animated so they can wave yellow flags. A safety car is only needed for the ovals.

Retain all the current tracks and premium cars. No need to go backwards on content. Too many times sequels of games cut out content from the previous version.

The HUD needs to be upgraded to allow you to either see your split times compared to the leader or the cars in front and behind you. You should be able to switch between the two options with a button.

All the cars should be premium. No standard cars at all.

I want to see at least 500 premium cars in Gran Turismo 6. If PD models the most popular standard cars from GT5 while adding around 100 new cars, 500 premiums should please almost everyone. The new cars should be somewhat proportionate. It shouldn't be 75% Japanese cars. It shouldn't be 80% racecars and 20% road cars.

The track editor needs to be vastly improved. Alot of it's functionality, like point to point races, was axed out of the final version that made its way into GT5.

The track editor should allow us to create more specific tracks instead of focusing on randomly generating ones. For example, if somebody wanted to create a oval similar to a real world one with banked curves they should be able to do so quickly and easily. They shouldn't have to randomly generate a track until they get a desired result. We should be able to go back over a generated track and fine tune sections of it. If we want to bank a certain turn 5 degrees, done. If we want to add 20 feet of elevation change here or there, done. Want to make this section of the course have catch fencing? Done. Want this turn to have alot of sandtrap runoff? Done.

Gran Turismo 6 needs to have at least 3x as many A-Spec events as Gran Turismo 5. GT5 has 9 endurance races. I want GT6 to have 30 and so on. Also, endurance races shouldn't be the only A-spec events to be long enough to require tire changes. I think by the time the driver is racing in series that require a S class license they should last long enough to require at least one pit stop, while the endurance races require multiple pit stops

Gran Turismo needs to go back to using the licensing system and percentage of game completed to unlock events. To race the endurance races lets say you should need the proper license for each endurance race and 30% of the game complete. Cars should not be locked.

More, stricter requirements to enter a race. There should be more horsepower and tire limits for racing at the lower levels to keep some sort of challenge. These restrictions can be used or not. Use them and you get a credit bonus at the end of the race.

Reward drivers for not using assists or not damaging their car with bonus credits at the end of a race.

Fix tire wear! Gran Turismo has never struck the balance between hard tires and soft tires. Superhard tires dont last long enough and don't provide enough performance to ever justify their use for an endurance race. I'm not asking for a set of tires to last 2+ hours like a real Le Mans race, just balance the performance levels between the tire compounds.

Weather & time change needs to be standard for every track. If time change takes a long team to model then just weather for every track and time change for endurance tracks like Daytona or Grand Valley.

Visible damage and crash physics need to be improved dramatically. If I drive a car backwards 200mph into another car it better look ugly.

Gran Turismo 6 needs to feature an event creator/editor. This can perhaps be done in "arcade" mode. Let us choose the track and the length of the race by either laps (1-500) or time (1 minute - 24 hours). Let us choose each individual AI car and let us customize the performance of each AI car through mods or even pp. Then let us adjust the AI difficulty and damage sensitivity.

B-Spec needs to be improved with better AI and make the strength bars really mean something. Allow us to race with our B-Spec drivers in endurance races over 4 hours long. Let us choose our B-Spec driver names. Give us a set amount of points to spend toward out B-Spec driver's initial attributes instead of randomly generating it.

I have long resisted a paint editor in GT5, but have decided it should be added, if for nothing more then to please the masses. The idea of a livery editor in GT6 will get everyone excited and will boost hype tremendously.

The replay editor needs to be improved. There needs to be a rewind button. I would also like to see some sort of windows movie maker in game that allows you to chop up replay footage as you see fit into one seamless highlight film. Then I want to be able to export the highlight film as a 1080p .mp4 file to the PS4's harddrive.

GT6 needs much, much better use of NASCAR , SUper GT, and Top Gear licenses.

Something like the following

NASCAR

  1. 200 miles - Daytona Superspeedway
  2. 100 miles - High Speed Ring
  3. 150 miles - Twin Ring Motegi Superspeedway
  4. 100 miles - Daytona Roadcourse
  5. 150 miles - Indianapolis

Super GT

  1. 250 km - Fuji GT
  2. 250 km - Tokyo R246
  3. 250 km - Suzuka
  4. 200 km - Tsukuba
  5. 300 km - Twin Ring Motegi Roadcourse

Top Gear needs a leaderboard for your fastest times on the course. You should be able to delete any time you want

GT6 needs more 2012 cars and relevant supercars from manufacturers like SSC, Koenigsegg, Noble, and others. Also a lower tier openwheel formula car is badly needed. Formula Ford or something similar. Nobody wants their first experience behind the wheel of an openwheel car to be in an 800 HP F1 car.

Bring back original course favorites like Midfield, Apricot Hill, Special Stage Route 11, Complex String, and others.

More restrictions for online races - Race cars only, road cars only, etc etc

Agree with this and http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/02/gran-turismo-6-what-polyphony-needs-to-do However I want GT6 ASAP .GT5 was very good and for a GT game Excellent and the best is the usual.Won't go to a full on rant but I don't know if i want to wait till the PS4 is released to play GT6 hope we get it very soon.

Edit: reading the IGN article it's strange how many People thing GT5's physics is way better than Forza

I just don't get the anxiety, they are working on two things, GT5 DLC + GT6. Not every piece of content they finish between now and Gt6 will be released as DLC.

Working on GT6 and GT5 DLC is the same work. They use some of the GT6 cars as GT5 DLC if GT6 is a PS3 game.

If not they just use a different LOD Model that the PS3 can use. That means almost no work for them.

They developed GT5 Premium cars to use them on PS4. The photomode model of the cars can't be used while racing on PS3.
The PS3 is to weak.

But i think they work on 2 things. PS Vita game + GT6.

Do you think Turn10 will recreate 700 cars from scratch for the new Xbox? They'll use the same thing i explained.

Do you think PD can recreate 300 cars for the PS4 and add 200?

They know what they do and created the cars not only for this generation.

Epic post!
Couldn't agree more...👍

...
"Standard" cars were sort of acceptable in 2010, but not in 2014/20XX

Honestly, I don't give a crap. If they can't be made Premium, I'd rather they stayed Standard than be omitted. Forget notions of "polish", make it clear they are included as legacy items only and are of limited functionality compared to the Premiums; and for goodness' sake keep the marketing department away from the localisation teams so that nothing gets lost in translation. GT6 should easily have a majority of Premiums anyway, so it's not going to be the same sort of issue in the first place.

I also don't think much time should be lavished on them if they are retained. In fact, I don't think very much time has been put into them since release, which is as it should be. Focus on the Premiums. There will still be inconsistency, of course, that's how the universe works.

Doesn't patching a sub-par title look better than not patching it at all? Ask NASCAR 2011 Fans how they felt about that.

Agree but the other side to the argument would be that there are alot of Standards so airgo almost every race you will see standard cars so Quality of the Visuals will automatically drop every race, then say you win cars Every standard car won People will complain about not getting a premium. And with future features(Livery Editor, customizing, etc) are to be implemented on Premiums only.Standards will eventually become unwanted and not really adding to.the final product and lets face it no one would be happy if we have PS1 era cars now in GT5 right.

The tracks all still look like crap and they didn't add day night transitions for races that start in the day and end at night. Which is why I won't buy it until I spend considerable time with the rental.

CorvetteConquer
Ridiculous amount of updates (thanks, but next time make the game more polished from the beginning).

I agree. GT5 was a unfinished product, but i like that they updated the game for free since release.
Not every developer would do that.

CorvetteConquer
DLC far and wide: Before June 27th, the last DLC was from January 19th. (understaffed = slow progress).

Yes. PD hasn't enough staff, but this is Sony's fault. I like that they don't release DLC every week or month.
But some DLC like the DLC Car Pack 2 don't have enough value.

I like the way patches and DLC are done in GT5. Yes it could be better, but it's fine.

When I see all these unfounded and overly dramatic complaints (and even the hilarious "I'm turning over!!!!" Announcements that no one cares about), I think of this.

Yesterday it was announced Volkswagen is now the majority shareholder of Porsche which might eventually have an effect on the whole license issue.
GT5 now basically includes all but 2 Volkswagen brands so maybe, just maybe, we might finally get that famous rear-engined sportscar with a succesful racing and rallying pedigree after all.

Fingers crossed.

Is it a coincidence that guy was listening/playing to Boston?/bad joke. I have not been at this site long but I'm starting to accept it for what it is.

I'm hoping the ratio of Standards will be low enough to put an option to include them in any individual's game or not. I've always only ever seen them as a legacy addition, but I guess the fact that you "have" to use them for some races in A- / B-spec means that isn't quite the case, despite what we were promised.
Again, I don't expect this to be on anywhere near the same scale for GT6. In fact, I totally expect PD will just axe them because of all the needless negativity. I'd rather they didn't, but such is life.
I don't know what PS1 "era" cars have to do with GT5 when we're talking about PS2 "era" cars in GT6, unless you're making the mistake of assuming GT6 will be on PS4. :P

A mistake people keep visibly making is to assume everything in GT6 will be like it was in GT5, too; like this idea that if Standards were included, they'd have to be implemented in exactly the same way. Broaden your minds a little, in general.

@ analog, nicely done! 👍
Is that a wee Trabi next to it? That could be fun, along with a Saab or two.

Good eye! I was wracking my brain over that one, I haven't seen a Samara in years...

Which can only be considered a good thing.

Having said that, they did enter an interesting Samara T3 version (driven by Jacky Ickx no less) for Paris Dakar in the early nineties.
Which had a Porsche-sourced 4wd drivetrain and a Porsche-sourced flat-six engine, so we've come full circle in a nonsensical way. :P

If there is a way where you can basically not allow standards to appear in your races if you choose too then yes I won't mind, and to be Honest although I want GT6 ASAP i probably think we will get it as a PS4 launch title

For me, 95% of the time it's just as unlikely that I will be offended by jaggedy standard car textures as it is that I will be impressed by the quality of a premium.

Premium cars are nowhere near as breathtaking as people, or photo-mode, would have you believe. Factor in the rubbish self shadowing and they're a complete waste of time.

For me somewhere between standards and premiums would have been just fine. I even find the silhouette interior is basically okay, although I don't use it on either type of car because for some reason they decided that people don't turn the wheel more than 4 degrees when they're driving.

Good news, even the most "breathtaking" simulator of all time, iRacing makes people believe that no car will have steering wheel turning more than 900 degrees, even I personally own 2 cars which goes way beyond that.
Reason why you cant see GT5 driver doing more than 4 degree turn is simple, it's called animation, and is not that simple because people in RL has different methods to turn cars completely from side to side (One arm or with both arms)
for comparison, in FM4 the driver makes 2 degree turn and cant even do a proper gear change.

Popped in GT5 for the first time in awhile today, bought Motegi and downloaded the FR-S, and was pleasantly surprised.

I think I've forgotten all the cool things in the game because of all the negativity I read on here, and I think the new seasonals that give you an actual car instead of a ticket have much more of an appeal to me. I guess it reminds me of trying so hard to win events in GT3/4 for a cool car :). And just looking through my garage, there are so many cool cars I haven't driven yet/forgot I had and wish there more Favorites spots to expedite the process .

I also never knew the lights on the Pace Car got updated to work! What a nice surprise.

Welcome back. :)

Thank you. I just bought FIFA at the end of the school year (no time to play during school) and played that through, so now I'm moving back to my favorite game :).

I think now that GT6 has been confirmed to be in the works for awhile, it's easier to enjoy what we have now because we can focus on the good of GT5 and hope GT6 has anything good we don't already have instead of wishing it was in GT5.

Didn't know about the pace car either, I'll have a look

👍 I agree

I remember watching one of my favorite cars, the standard Jaguar XJ220 in repaly on a wet track. All the other premium cars had windshield wipers going, but the XJ220 had an ugly low poly wiper sitting static on the windshield. In the middle of a rainstorm. I couldnt even take a picture of it in photomode the ugly wiper looked so bad

As Tornado pointed out standard cars are essentially second class, they don't have alot of features/upgrades the premiums have. Also, PD has to spend alot of time updating them, time that could be spent on adding more premium car models. How long did it take to add simple interiors to all the standard cars?

And when you really think about it the standard car models can be traced all the way back to 2001's Gran Turismo 3. And the idea we are talking about "premiums and standards" is really a joke

Whoever thinks they can port everything from GT5 into a PS4 GT6 * face palm*
What don't you guys understand about PS3 quality GT5 "premiums" and PS4 quality...
Again Premiums are P S THREEEEEEE QUALITY
GT6 on the P S FOURR!!!!! should have P S four quality!
EDIT: IM all for "legacy" cars in GT6 *standards* but you can only race them in custom arcade races / event creator. not online A spec . ETC

The people who really know work at Polyphony Digital so why don't you STOOPPPP!!! writing like that. KY has said the premiums were designed with the future in so that is all we can go off of and assume he meant PS4 quality.
