Does he never downshift? He only uses his right hand, quite well, to shift up and down on the same side of the wheel.
The animation looks good. To shift he pretty much moves his hand forward so that the bottom of the palm rests on the wheel while the fingers are free to use the paddle. That how I do it at least.

That's the way the paddle shifter setup in WRC cars, you pull the lever toward to shift up, push it away to shift down.

I was kidding about the hydraulics comment, and if PD included it, I would seriously laugh my ass off. That's something I'd expect in GTA. And I won't even entertain that thought any longer because it's a deep disrespect to the series.

Still, I firmly believe we'll be able to customize our cars much more in this coming title. Which I do look forward to.

Maybe GT5 needs a third performance level to cater to the true hardcore racer: Standard (arcade), Advanced (similar to Prologue), and Professional (full bore realistic). And of course with a full load of driving assists to tailor your experience even more.

I would kind of hope for that. Now I know that there's no way I speak for hardly anyone else, but if they had just kept the Prologue physics and carried them right over to the full game, it wouldn't hurt my feelings any. Feels realistic enough for me.

Now that all the God of War hyped has been soaked up, Sony can put their full focus on GT5 and get it released. ONLY if PD feel it's truly done though.

(GoW3 was rushed. :indiff: )

I truly think E3's going to be something huge for GT5. And I also think GT5 is going to be released around Christmas for killer sales.

I dunno I found Prologue way too simplistic and really miss the Time Trial physics :(
the FFB in Prologue is terrible!
Pull the handbrake in Prologue while flying along, and nothing happens if your straight - yeah right. Do that in the Time Trial and you will flip out of control.

If the physics were kept from GT5:P along with the FFB and wheel mechanics, I would feel cheated and pissed off......
It was like going back to the dark ages of Enthusia and GT4 as far as that goes with the wheel feel, and would be the laughing stock of the sim world

Anyway the guy said the feel is inbetween GT5:P and the Time Trial, so old demo builds for sure

I totally disagree there.

I don't ever feel the need to do that, so doesn't really apply to me.

Having spent many hours in my own personal vehicles on race tracks and pushing them to the limit on local canyon roads, I can say that Prologue just feels right to me. I will say that I wish there was a harder force feedback option though.

That's the thing, Prologue is numb, you get no feedback whatsoever through the wheel.
You just condition yourself by repetition,

Try doing Salom run in Prologue, the car does not get upset like it should. It works as it should in the Time Trail. Much better weight transfer and suspension movement in the Time Trial, you can do flick manevours, and all the other tricks.
Even just watching the replays of Prologue vs what you see in the Time Trail you can see which is more realistic in how the cars move

The only thing wrong with the Time trial is the tyre model, which is what your probably complaining about, but that's separate from what I'm talking about
The tyre model isn't that good in Prologue either - slicks don't act like slicks, they're just gripper versions of street tyres.

I feel too much like a hovercraft in Prologue

Gotcha.
Didn't notice a movement difference when up/down shifting. Maybe I need to look closer.

Tokyo Game Show Confirmation List

-Gran Turismo 5 is set to release on March 31st 2010 in Japan

-An American and European release date is said to be announced soon

I think the second is worse. 1/2 a year later....still no word.

The word "soon" means "at least year away" in SONY's diction.

Only thing that came into my mind after watching this was: Aren't rally cars raging, crackling, burbling and backfiring machines? This awful cat mewling sound without any soul is...

...just horrible again.
Crisp and raspy is all I would call it, like my buddies 240Z with a nice exhaust.
Watch this video (about the 17 minute mark especially) and get back to us with your description.
What I would comment on is the cockpit view should have a lot less engine noise and more mechanical noises.
It is more of what the chase view would sound like.
Just steal NFS Shift's sounds.
Please, don't. :scared:

WIth those Rally cars against the GT300/500 cars surely the rally cars have the disadvantage to having an extra 70-90kg person in the passenger seat. :nervous:

Just loving all these new videos. Thanks Mr video man person poster. (forgot your user name and im too lazy to find it. Mimaximax???)

March, 31th....

* Opens play-asia website in the browser, breathes deeply....

@SuzukiSW4Video - Yeah, that paddle animations look very well made, I just figured out that the pilot and co-pilot are using HANS devices, I didn't know that they use it in WRC, I used to think they're F1 exclusive devices, cool.

It's funny to see the co-driver prediciting the next corner in a urban track that we saw and played a thousand times. Does anyone know if the co-driver actually talk and if it's possible to hear him at the cockpit view? It would be a nice detail. :D

Yes he did mumble something in the Subaru vid, hopefully it will be more understandable what he actually says in the final game.
Eventually those rally tracks will be familiar, but in the beginning it might actually be helpful, after that it would just be a nice detail indeed. ;)

Definitely!

I've waited 10 years for proper realism in Gran Turismo, at least give me the option.

I have exactly the same impression of both versions. Prologue is too safe, too secure on professional, even with the older cars.

3/31/2010 ... Japan release right :D

To bad it's not real. :(

hmmm... End of March ... so what do the "winds" say now ?

Chris

I'm pretty sure the release was delayed...
