So quote the original post where he calls it a track as well, rather than leave it to guess work, because right above where you implied he called Nordschleife a track, he clearly did not.

Huh? Mine was the original post. Look:

Famine
Trial Mountain (though moreso the Reverse version) is hands-down the best track in the real or virtual world.

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. While Trial Mountain is a good track, I'd have to go with the Nordschleife, despite it being the obvious choice.

Famine
And despite not being a track. It's a public, one-way, limit-free toll road.

If someone said the best electric car in the world was the G-Wiz and I said it was the Sinclair C5, I'd expect someone to point out that it's actually a trike so doesn't count. Similarly, the subject was the best real or virtual tracks...

Where's the disconnect here?

Well, it's nice to be overly critical for ridiculous reasons. Don't kid yourselves people -- it's a race track. Serving as a public road doesn't take any of that away. Monaco is composed entirely of public roads but that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a race track for 1-2 weeks of the year. The Nordschleife is a race track that is also used as public road -- no reason to nitpick. I can't say I've seen any passenger vehicles driving on those public roads in the 24 Hours of Nurburgring...

Not sure GT5 will be hold back for a few arcade racers and F1 2010 being released somewhat simultaneously as it will probably steal their thunder and apart from the F1 game perhaps, it is not aimed at the same target group ( not meaning people can't love all these games, btw ).
And maybe i'm wrong but 3D isn't yet confirmed, only rumoured, for GT5 isn't it?

I'm not sure I agree. Sony wants to make sure its other PS3 developers do well (+ contractual agreements I'm sure) and must give them some room. Split Second and Blur may be very much in the arcade side, but F1-2010 will very much targeted at the sim crowd. With the FIA involved, I am sure that is even more the case.

Taking your point of view into account, a possible release would then be prior to September. Given the complete lack of news and hype, I venture to say a late Spring/Summer release is highly unlikely. That leaves a logical November/December release for GT5 in my view. On the other hand, logic has little to do with it, doesn't it? :)

Both are public roads that happen to be used as race tracks every now and then. The 'Ring is a one-way, public, limit-free toll road. If you think it's a race track, try taking timing gear onto it and see what happens.

Edit: Though the GT version at least somewhat divorces one from the sensation of tooling round a corner at 120mph and encountering a German in his VW Polo on his way home, or a sightseeing coach doing 4.

Edit edit: I should add that it's probably unique in that it was actually built as a track, but has since been opened for public access. I can't think of any other tracks that were purpose-built tracks which became public roads and yet are still used for closed testing and racing purposes...

Maybe it is indeed wishful thinking, but all those other games are multi-platform, and sure it would be clever to leave some room for other games tackling the same genre, but an exclusive PS3 title ( especially one this expensive ) might take priority over anything else.
And it would not mean those other titles may necessarily suffer as they might be targeted at a different audience or be an additional purchase for the same audience.
Anyway logic is probably indeed not always apparent, i remember Enthusia being launched in the same timeframe GT4 was becoming available.
And Enthusia was a PS2 exclusive...........

Your current car looks like the batmobile, don't think it is though...

No it isn't the Popemobile either ;), but i'm not giving any hints for now and those wishing to guess what it is please post suggestions on my page as visitor message, although there isn't much worth discussing in this thread right now i fear the mighty mods :scared:, unless i'm given some special permit for the time being............:)

Wow! Really? I didn't know that! So if You show up with your car (whatever it may be), pay your €5, and you have a lap timer in your car, they tell you to pull it out? That kind of doesn't make sense if the whole purpose of doing it is to see how fast you can go around the ring. I suspect I'm missing the whole picture...

More like 15 bucks, but yes even having a stop watch with you can result in being thrown out.
Like Famine said, during the "Touristenfahrten" the NS is a public, limit-free toll road.
Rules of the road apply e.g. no overtaking on the right.

I don't believe they will remove it, no - though I'm told video equipment is banned. However, timing equipment is specifically excluded by most car insurance policies. Normally this wouldn't matter, because racetrack use is as well, but because the 'Ring is a public road you'll find that you're driving other than in accordance with your insurance policy - and this means when you crash (and the Polizei will report timing equipment in the accident report) you'll not only lose your car but also have to shell out for all the damage you do to the road (including crash barriers).

GT's delay, mate. That's what!

Yep. Nest of fieldmice, nibbling Kaz's HT leads.

Some certainly do - though I wouldn't say "a lot", necessarily. Not a lot they can do about standard equipment.

Also, I thought dbarrade was kidding. Then I hoped he was. And it turns out he wasn't...

Not to get into wishlisting but id rather have more real life circuits(gilles V., spa, bathurst) as opposed to fictional, the Original Circuits in GT4 had a bit of a gamey feel.

Um... Gran Turismo is a game, what is the problem here?

Nice vids above btw, haven't seen those before.

Why is the driver of the Super GT GTR not wearing his official uniform? In the E3 09 GT5 trailer, Jeff Gordon was wearing his official racing suit. So why not the Super GT drivers?
