Many members said that, do you really think that PD release a DLC of 800 cars? and they loose the oportunity to add new cars to the game?

Yes they can. 50% of the modelers can make premium versions of standard cars and they are free downloads to update the game and the other 50% make new cars which are pay DLC. Not too many people would complain about paying for DLC if they knew they where also getting free downloads just as often so PD gets a PR win and coincidentally a bunch of updated cars that they can immediately add to GT6 (If that comes out on the PS3)

Hmm ... I am not convinced if you try to stretch say a 480P or 540P res to 1080P the pixelation can be seen. 2005 PS2 game in 2010 PS3 game will not look OMG. That is why I think they will surely do something about it. Not just a port or upscaling :)

GT4 was not meant for HD. Up scaling it will create more pixelation and not look any good at 1080P. So I think it will be like GTHD at least if not better 💡

Ok 👍

gt4 cars were downsacled for the ps2. We have sources stating that the detail that was given to gt4 models was more than the console could ever use.

Standard cars are just upscaled from GT4 and GT PSP. They look a lot worse than GT HD cars.

Just look at this GTHD vid:

GT HD cars will be PREMIUM cars in GT5 for sure.

It looks to me like GTHD cars are also upscaled gt4 cars. Lights and things from the standard video seem to stick out from the body like they do in the GTHD video. Also looks like maybe even some of the premium cars are upscaled gt4 cars, they just spent a lot more time on them.
The interior is just an outline of seats and steering wheel, and roll cage.

Anyone else thinking that the "Premium" tracks we have been seeing are ones that have been completely re-done or are brand new? And the non-premium tracks will be HD enhanced GT4 models, just like the standard cars?

Yeah, that makes the most sense to me. It all seems a little unlike PD though, to feature two different levels of quality for content in a game. Upscaling something you created over 5 years ago is hardly 'revolutionary'.

EDIT: And I would agree with those who think that standard cars don't look anywhere near as good as the premium models we've seen (judging by the recent video we were given). I don't say that with a complaining attitude, but out of respect for how good those premium models really look.

I have full faith that standard cars will look just as good as other racing games or at least comparable after all the changes they have made like adding high res textures, tessellation and things like that. Lets hope :nervous:

No need to worry! http://thegamershub.co.uk/2010/06/the-gears-of-gran-turismo-5/

Quote: "If you think that the past cars will look like hand-me-downs from the past GT PS2 games, trust me, your wrong. Each of the standard cars take every single graphical advantage of the PS3."

It's not as bad as people think. :)

3 obvious off the bat traits of the standard cars i noticed int he small clip are , low res(compared to premium) textures, the GT4 one sided tires, and the reflections arent as detailed.

Better go back to GT4 and learn to drive bonnet.

i don't care if those 800 cars would look like bricks just give me my cockpit view...

They could better scrap those 800 and make 100 more premium cars...

Those 800 cars you want to scrap are all from previous GT's. Do you really want to get rid of your memories just because they aren't as pretty as some others? :ouch:

We then moved onto stereoscopic 3D, which Gran Turismo 5 will support, it was announced on Tuesday. I wanted to know at which point in the game’s development he had decided to include the feature.

KY:
The 3D feature was almost complete two years ago, actually. We could see that it was in that natural flow of technology and where things were heading. Discussions with Sony regarding 3D technology began more than three years ago. More recently we have spoken with Evolution Studios, who have put a lot of work into stereoscopic 3D, about things like video formats.

Because Gran Turismo 5 is built to run at 60 frames per second it was easy for us to implement 3D. It’s quite difficult to convert a game that runs at 30 frames per second to 3D.

I am 40 and this is the unique forum in which I ever post comments.
I don't want to be seen as a too strict person, because I am not, but I think there should be a way to limit the new threads, especially in this period they are growing as mushrooms (Italian expression).

I was thinking that maybe we could have more sticky Threads for restricted discussions (Online/Damages/Tracks/Photo Mode/Nascar/Rally)

It is just my opinion, I am sure you already had this thoughts before (I am a pretty recent member).
What do you think?

Well, this is the "general" discussion thread. There are other, more specific threads. We just vent here <---Joke :P

(dove sei in Italia?)

3D sitting on the roof of the car 👎

Or hovering in mid-air and behind the car in 3D:tdown:

Nobody asked for 3D:grumpy:

Give me 800 generic cockpits!

Or just release the game once the premium cars were finished

Given it took 5 years to produce 200 of them, we'd be looking at a release date of around 2030 for all 1,000+ cars to be premium quality.

Edit: Or give it a couple more years and release the game with 400 cars or so.

I'm hoping for standard and premium tracks. I don't like the idea of having fewer tracks in GT5 than in GT4. They should put all the previous tracks as they're doing with the cars, even if it is with less quality.

If they never took BC out of my ps3 I'd just buy gt4 and be done with it.

Actually i said that for me they even can look like GT1 Cars i don't care if those 800 car will have 18 mln poly or 800 poly just give me cockpit view. Even if it willl be like GTPSP. It is still better than no cockpit view at all.

It just hit me.. What if I can't drive Suzuki Escudo in the cockpit view! O.o NOOOOOO!!

Yep same as other iconic cars like Lancia stratos, delta S4, honda city turbo II, skylines from 60-70' and other must have cars.

I'm sure that i will play GT5 about 2x more than GT4 (about 1k hours). But for me all fun in GT4 was just normal track day with noone on road your car and your slow n-ring lap after lap. And when i bought GT5P i was like.. OMG now in full GT5 i will drive my Honda city turbo II on n-ring in cockpit view and i was like in seven heaven.... and bam there it is no one will do PREMIUM honda city turbo II. Car will just have upped res, and that's about it. No new sounds, no cockpit view, no other things = SAME IMMERSION AS GT4 because i can't feel car like i do in cockpit view even if it is black frame type..

Car without interior is just a sheell.

I loved NFS: Porshe because in all cars there was cockpit view and for me it is crucial to sim racing.

If honda interview would happen again i would beg KAZ to include just black frame cockpit view like PSP...

I will say it again. I would have 300 premium cars than even 10 000 cars with no cockpit view and that is probably same for most of simracing/driving fans..

I grew out of the lack of cockpits, but having cars on the field which are comparable to GT4 (HD) and then the Premiums looking like models from possibly GT6 or even Forza 4 or 5 is far to awkwardly disproportionate to watch each other race.

Its like playing a final fantasy game, a new one (XIII is it?), and then having random characters look like they were ported from FFVII.

Wish they would rid the Standard vehicles and just have the PREMIUMS, a sort of Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec if you'd like (A-Spec having nearly 200 cars BTW). Memories of GT4 belong back in GT4 only if they resemble the degree of effort that went into making them in GT4,ie if cars look like they were from GT4 IMHO of coarse.

BTW...SIMPLE LOGIC, so excuse me.

200 Premiums = 5 years roughly? (working on other games too I know, I know).
...........translates from anywhere from 10-20 years to make?!

No cockpits, np.

But, models with pixel ranges from (again excuse me for the inaccuarte figures) 10000 polys (GT4 had 4,000/car?) to 500,000 poly cars!! Goodness me!

But hey...

That´s not how it works. The workload of building new cars is far more enduring then working with assets they already have. You can´t do this "lose 800 standard and put 100 premiuns in" math, because it doesn´t work like this.

They didn´t go back to the old models, and that explains why they sound like their GT4 models.

On the positive side: they will look a lot better than GT4, and most importantly, they will have GT5 physics on it.

I know this news sucks, but right now we have to make the best out of it.

That would make sense if for the past 5 years all they did was model cars.

I meant create a game with 200 premium cars only and then release it!

I would be very disappointed if the GT4.5 cars still have the same issues with one sided low poly wheels and tyres, that should be the easiest aspect to upgrade as they should all be interchangeable even with the premium models.

Unless this time around the customization options are also limited to standard and premium.

I have noted the comments and feeling of disappointment with standard/premium cars, 5 year wait, boo hoo, etc. So i will share with you three simple steps to avoid a pessimistic view of GT5:

1. Forget GT4 was ever made
2. Play GT3 from the beginning, with the wheel if possible. It only has 200 cars with no cockpits, and a limited track selection.
3. By November GT5 will seem such an amazing revolution that you would never complain.

Over the past few months I have been playing GT3 from scratch because i never 100%'ed it the first time round - and playing with the wheel adds so much, even without cockpit views. Even tho i am wetting myself in anticipation waiting for GT5 for the past few years (particularly this month), the old games have enough replay value to keep me busy.

GT3 was the reason i bought a PS2, likewise GT5 is the reason i will have a PS3 by November. It will seem out of this world to me! I'm looking forward to the beautiful cars and tracks, day/night transition, damage, and the online play with DLC :) If i forget about GT4, then even the photomode will seem new :)

Paulturismo what wheel did you use and do you get force feedback.

Cheers mate.

PS. The wheel i currently use is the Logitech Driving Force Pro. I will probably get the Logitech G27 one day because that has the neat addition of a clutch pedal and H-pattern shift box.

My point exactly.

GT4 was great but it might not fit the quota or the level of quality the other 200 Premiums have.

Given the 200 cars seen so far as Premium, GT5 would still be a real delight.
Lemans cars, Super GT cars, F1 car(s?), NASCAR vehicles, exotic cars ranging from Bugatti to Lamborghini, to little Kei cars, to slightly more powerful (and larger of coarse 💡 ) saloon cars, and so on.

I hate to sound negative but, it might be rather interesting to find out the 800 cars were simply put in for the sake of producing monumental figure despite lacking substance.

But hey...

everyone you are a bunch of whiners, seriously when GT came out it didn't have damage or body upgrades, and still it was way more realistic, way more fun and way more exiting,it has a set of really really good cars and tracks, I mean now when the GT5 come up everyone is jut complaining about the lack of interiors on it, don't you see the day night change, the rally, the nascar(i hate that but anyway),F1(un officially but the F1 2007 is confirmed)as long as the keep the formula of the Gran Turismo career mode and improve it,trust me it will be the best game that will be released in history, until GT6 come up to PS4 in maybe 6 or 7 years.

Come on! All the cars will look great! Premium or not. But this is what they have been telling us the whole time.. Just that some people wouldn't believe it.

Why do they call some standard then.
