Well funny enough my wife had ago on supermario. When she got home from the supermarket I did notice some mushrooms.

No one is going to play NFS and then suddenly think: Oh, I'm going to buy a Porsche as my next car.

Whilst I agree with your comment, it's more than pretty obvious. ;)

Putting an expensive exotic manufacturer in a game which will be played mostly by people who doesn't have spare money to buy the real cars would be a complete waste of time, following your line of thinking. However, there's many other cheaper and smaller things which make lots of money and carry the same prestigious brand found in the top tier supercars, I'm talking about Ferrari clothing, perfums, Lamborghini eletronical gadgets and many other licensed products which make a lot of money.

The point in "adversiting" in a game like GT is to stick your brand into consumers brains, and that's very effective when building your reputation as a brand. So a twelve year kiddo who's driving a Gallardo in GT5 will probably grow into a Lambo aficionado, and then buying many licensed lambo products, maybe someday, if he has the spare money available, he'll buy the real car, but in his lifetime he already put a lot of money into Lamborghini's pockets. Effective marketing? I think so.

Disappointing to see the invisible walls and tape barriers acting like granite blocks.

You get people not braking for corners and pinballing around and its very old game design. It would be nice if you could get a bit wide in tandem and knock a few tape barriers over and scramble back on track rather than being buffered down a narrow road by invisible blocks. Plus it ruins the realism. Sure damage may help but how silly would it be to fishtail or drive into nothing or a tape barrier and wreck your car. Without damage it's just a pinball funnel.

I liked how the guy was driving a GTR on the dirt in that video. Kinda DIRT 2 style, I guess. But, I think the invisible barriers and tape barriers will ALWAYS be in racing games like GT because, otherwise you could cut through the grass and reek havoc on the other racers...that said, I haven't seen the invisible barriers on the Top Gear Track

Invisible walls suck, and so do the indestructible tape barriers. Period.👎
Also, they are present at the Top Gear track too sadly.

There is a video which dose show 'the invisible barriers' on the Top gear test track. Infact, it is very close to the edge of the track.

Edit: Here is the video: http://www.gamesradar.com/ps3/gran-...a-20100617125737147083/g-20070711154452396099

At some point I would really like to know what happened early on that left Porsche out of GT. Probably money back then, but now it feels like something else. Could it really be that Porsche see no benefit to being in the most prominent racing game of all time? It stinks of pride right now, more than money or contracts / agreements. Perhaps it has something to do with Sony proper and not PD? Would be interesting (and humorous) if it all stems from pride or dignity.

What is the closest representation of a car you can get, next to going down to the dealer and test driving one?

Let me take a guess....................GT5.

How accurate is it ? As close as your going to get, next to that test drive.

EDIT: Why do you suppose Dale Earnhardt Jr. told NASCAR, Kaz is the guy they need to talk to about making the next NASCAR game?

Are you serious? Do you drive?

You would go down to a dealer and drive a Porsche if you were going to buy one!!

You wouldn't seriously walk into a dealership and say " here you are sir, this a a cheque for £60,000 I have driven your car through trafalgar square at 130mph and even over took a Ferrari F40! I will take one! Don't worry about the test drive I completely trust my Driving Force GT! "

As much as GT is realistic its nothing like driving a real car. Sitting at home with a steering wheel clamped to a desk or stand with some plastic pedals is no substitute for driving a supercar or any other car. You get no idea of how the actual car feels ( or unfortunately sounds ).

People are not going to buy a single car solely on driving it on GT5. Sure you might like the way it looks etc but if you drive it in real life it could suck on public roads, could have a clutch like pushing down on a brick, could have numb steering, could have an awful gearchange..

While its the most realistic videogame its still nothing like real life. Sure you can learn track layouts etc..

The GT time trial for instance, if someone put me or most people in a Nissan 350z on a track there is no way I would have been spinning out all the time.

You should watch the Top Gear episode where Clarkson takes the NSX around the track in the US.

With regards to Porsche do you think that PD could sneak these in to go with RUF?

In any case I would still like to see a photo posted here showing the interior of a car with its roof down in GT4.

My theory is if they had cockpit detailing then why would they not have it now?

Agreed, also I cant see Kaz setting a benchmark with GT5P that isnt continued into GT5.

maybe the new feature is a car creator...

There won't be a "car creator" just as there won't be a "track creator" ...those are just GTP rumors arisen from despair
Just remember that we are talking here about a Gran Turismo game and not ModNation Racers or something like that.

I have thought about the convertible and open tops from GT4, they are going to have to have a interior.

They can't black out open air.

but what should they do whit the convertibles in rain. If they hopefully made a dynamic rain system.

Your avatar driver will get wet and have his leather interior ruined, or you start the race with the top on...

It's not like you can flip the rooftop switch at 180km/h or get out, take 2 minutes to mount the top, and resume the race ;)

Yes I drive.

If I was pretty serious about buying one, yes I think I would.

No No No, you miss the whole point. You don't buy it or assume you can drive it because you drove it in GT5, or some other game. However it is, as I said as close to driving one, without actually driving the real thing that you can experience.
Is it still a long way from the reality of actually driving it? Of course it is.

No kidding, whats your point.

Goes without saying.

While its the most realistic videogame its still nothing like real life. Sure you can learn track layouts etc.."

Thats for sure.

The GT time trial for instance, if someone put me or most people in a Nissan 350z on a track there is no way I would have been spinning out all the time."

Probably. I think you are totally over-reaching what I meant by what I said.
Although, now that you mention that, the winners of the TT went on to drive in a real race and didn't do too bad.

You should watch the Top Gear episode where Clarkson takes the NSX around the track in the US."

I think I've seen it.

With regards to Porsche do you think that PD could sneak these in to go with RUF?"

I have no idea.

The point I was trying to make was more from Porsche's or other car manufacturers perspective of exposure, name recognition, and to the degree it is possible, familiarity out in the public. GT5 or another quality driving VG is a perfect stage for this.

Some of you may not realize it, but simulaters are used extensively now in training everything from airplane and jet pilots to M1 Abrams Tank crews.
Is it the same as the real thing? No, but it is a valuable training tool.

If anyone allows that to hinder their ability to enjoy GT5, I feel sorry for them.

No racing game is perfect. Each one has faults. So why make such a big deal of it?

I didn't like Forza 3, I got rid of it. If someone doesn't like GT5, the simple solution would be for the individual not to buy it. Ah, but that would be to easy.

Anyways, of someone is looking for a free roaming off road racing game, I am sure there is some out there for the consumer to drive off track on.

No doubt 👍 like the night racing is beautiful with the dirt flying everywhere and as usual somebody has to cry about something else. Its a pity

Althoug I agree in most of that, is it one thing I thought/wanted PD would fix then it would be the invisable barriers on rally circuits, it doesnt seem like a hard task since other rally games can do it.... whatever GT5 is going to be the best racing game in a long time, soo many good features but the many insane features have still not bin anounced:D

Actually, there is a trench there along with steel posts if you actually look at 0:10. Its not as if it just hit nothing but tape.

Even then, big deal. Last I checked, Dirt 2 also had you mysteriously disappear when you went off the track and magically reappear on track, which isn't realistic either. No game is and never will be perfect.

I was just wondering if the tight barriers on the Rally races were there to prevent gross short-cutting of the course?

That should not be like that if the off track physics was right.... Maybe its a memory issue? Dont shoot me , Im not a computer a geek....
