You said you were scared to touch the wall. Just to make it clear, did you try? You really slow down?

I would love to see a rally game made just about the group B years that tries to simulated the thousands of fans all over the road shown in that last vid. unbelievable

yeah it did a pretty good job, but as the systems get more and more powerful I think it would be amazing to see overwhelming crowds like halfway through that second vid

You don't mean ON THE ROAD, right? xD This is not GTA.

Anyway I don't think they could add so many spectators because of the resources needed by the system. It's already a miracle if this baby runs at 60 fps. Maybe they could but it would look like 🤬. I don't know if you saw the spectators in grid/fm3/fight night round 4 but they're awful.
Incredibly detailed cars with perfect lightning... and many low LOD spectators? I don't think I want to see that, not in GT5 anyway.

I bet those rally drivers have to be some what cautious when driver near the spectators. So if I was driving I'd just plow through like there's no tomorrow and not be one bit cautious. I might kill a guy hear or there, but I'd win.

I don't think they ever were cautious. No one sued you if your foot got run over, and if you were standing in the middle of the road and got hit, you deserved it. Even standing near the track really, you know the consequences

I went to Top Gear Live (Brilliant Show!) in Dublin today and at show room was a Playstation section since Playstation was one of the big sponsors for Top Gear Live, it included 3 PSP Go's playing Motorstorm, LBP & GT. And there were a good amount of PS3s setup to play games and Vidzone, but then there was 3 racing pod things with the TGS build of GT5 installed in them, 2 of the pods were practise ones (The one on the left was the SLS AMG ( I tried it but it handles mad.) and the right was the 458 Italia (Didn't try it.), but the middle pod was the main one, you put your name, address, DOB & phone number down and you wait your turn for a go, but the challenge was to post the fastest lap, you get to pick one of the 8 cars (Impreza WRC, Focus, ACR Viper, HPA TT, High End G37, SLS, 458 & FT-86), obviously on the Tokyo R246, if you got the fastest lap out of the whole weekend, you win a PS3 & a Sony Bravia, so I went to have a go, I picked the HPA TT, it handled great and it was fast :), 1st lap spun out at the fast bit & on the 2nd lap, things began to improve, I caught up with the AI, but they kept on blocking me which was annoying but I ended up becoming 2nd on the Fast Lap Leaderboard (1:44:958), 1st was 1:44:101, I was happy to get a good lap time and the game so far is brilliant.

Just back from Top Gear Live in Dublin too, the GT5 demo looked fantastic. A small but definately noticable step up from prologue. The lighting and shadows are amazing, the physics seem a little more balanced at slower speeds.
In a strange kinda way, it's a little less sterile than prologue, the feeling is more of the game being alive. I am not impressed with the DFGT steering wheel after trying a G25 with r-factor ten minutes before.
My laps weren't good at all, was pushing far too hard, the A.I. were definately smarter than the prologue.

Yeah and there were some horrible moments for rally sport.

This video tribute is good, especialy in this video there is some crazy crowd

Crowd was just mad...

after this video i have some respect for photographers...

After this I have MAJOR respect for the drivers (not that I didn't before), one mistake = bye bye crowd.

That jump is in Portugal. Always spectacular. That's what you call a "human frame" :)

But there was one accident with a couple dead and some 30 injured with Joaquim Santos RS200 going off the road in '86 (not there specifically, but in Sintra).

I really wish these beasts are all in GT5, a lot more than current rally cars. Not much grip, not very good brakes (compared with today) but a lot of raw brute power

I'm actually torn on this issue. Poorly modeled spectators would be a distraction, but at the same time if you have ever been to any of those tracks in real life the lack of them is equaly distracting. It is something I noticed in FM3 on Road Atlanta. There are people all along the fences and safety barriers, but Spectator Hill has no spectators, in fact none of the grassy infield hillsides have spectators when normally you have to work to find a good spot that isn't in anyone's way.

Whilst a lack of spectators was noticeable in GT4, it's also true to life in most circumstances. Outside of major race series, you generally get very few spectators at most motor races. IRL equivalent of Mitsubishi Mirage Cup? - you'd be hard pressed to spot anyone in a grandstand.

I was in an Audi R10 TDI, so it felt like it should be an ALMS event. But the only supporting races I have been to are the ones that race the same day, so that probably has my mind thinking I should see crowds.

That said, Spectator Hill is the best seat in the house at Road Atlanta (it is the only completely clear view of the Esses), and people are there during all events.

It would be nice if the spectators were dynamic in the way that their quantity changes in line with what sort of racing is going on. Testing or fast lapping any sort of car should really be almost entirely spectator free.

I agree with both points, and I also understand why they don't do this in games.

I think it would be cool to see a small scattered crowd in the 3-10 lap races, races with 10-50 laps about half full, and anything over that, or a championship series event, packed.

If I recall correctly, that was somewhat the case with GT3 and/or 4. I seem to remember there being little to no spectators while hot lapping, while races would have considerably more spectators. It's likely my mind is completely making this up, though.

What about NASCAR events, you have like a quarter million in the stands and the infield jammed to capacity with trucks cars and campers, not to mention TV crews, should PD animate TV crews for larger events?

In Prologue, you'd see cameramen (and cameras+mics) on scattered throughout the London track (on a scaffoldings).

You described it perfectly, I'm no good at describing things. The AI like to block you alot and its funny when you smash into them and they will spin out. What car did you use?

The obstacles like the white Polyphony Digital boxes slow you down alot.

Same with Eiger, they are lined all over the track and turn as you drive by and take pictures and such.

It would be nice to be able to view pictures from said spectators and maybe video camera points around the race from those guys.

Or even take it a step farther, by placing your own cameras around the track so you could see what it looks like on the replay.
