Yeah, but at least they got the basics right.
Dare I say, best sounding rally car in game by far?

Most games have audio taken from in car cams, which have no bass.
Even Dirt 2 sounds lack the snarl of rally cars on dirt/gravel seem to have

Wouldn't be hard to add the anti-lag bangs in

Sorry, Cant and wont Agree with that.

Dirt 2 Has one of the best sounds Ive ever Heard, You can hear intake sound, exhaust rumble, pop and bang, also turbo spool up, blow off, Supercharger whine, rocks knocking on the car floor, tire over dirt noise, transmission whine, gear change sound and so on..

And boy they sound really deep and bassy, I play in a 2.1 Speaker set btw.

I have the game as well, and it sounds good, but the snarl is definitely lacking. They have all the extras, but the basic engine/exhaust sound of the car does not sound like it's running on gravel/dirt. They sound like it's on a dyno :sly:

Probably the best sounding car in the game. The others aren't as good and have quite a synthetic tone.
The quality is HD, but dynamic range and snarl, punch etc isn't quite there. The engine sounds seems to run too freely to be on dirt

amar212 confirmed the Nomad Lamborghini Diablo and Callaway C12 sounded great, these are two very rare cars produced in limited numbers.

I'll stick with my theory PD recorded all of these cars first time around but didn't implement the engine samples until GT5, this gives me hope cars likes the Jagaur XJR-9LM, Sauber Mercedes C9 and Peugeot 205 T16 Evo II will have realisitc sounds.

Like I said before I figured they were just reusing all their original assets, same for horns and what not :)
They usually video tape a person, starting the car, changing gears, indicators etc

Speaking of rally cars - here is what Dirt 3 is sounding like. A little bit synthetic

Is there any Corvette race cars that are premium? I hope so, I also hope they got the sounds somewhat right. The 'Vettes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans sounded O-so sweet! You could hear the roar and tell it was one of the Corvettes. ;)

I believe I'll be able to answer the V8 question (assuming they don't beat me to it in the leaked videos) when I upload the cars I have from GT PSP onto GT5 :)

you should hear them downshifting into turn 17 at sebring. been going since 05. then come down from 175ish mph throwing 5feet of fire out the sides

Race mod the Z06? Hhmm... That is true... well that's good news. :D
And I wish I could go to a race and see the Corvettes race :(

Dirt 3 may sound a little bit synthetic, but it's miles ahead of GT5 in detail and complexity. There are so many different Foley effects going off in that clip and mixing together on-the-fly with atmospheric reverb, it's a level of detail GT5 simply can't achieve. Not forgetting how accurate it is considering recordings are super old and it's also a WIP.

I would stick to comparing production cars for now, GT5 hasn't suddenly become master of all breeds now they finally fixed engine sound. There's still a lot to do before they can be competitive with these specialist areas. The sounds they do have for race cars are too simple to pass as anything more than okay for a hardcore enthusiast, but they are more than okay for a semi-sim like GT5.

Well iRacing is even worst! Appalling even.... and all it has is a small number of race cars

Like I said Dirt has the extras, but the basic sound is flat and squashed. It doesn't sound like the car is on dirt at all. Listen to the SX4 clip above of the real car. Wheels slip on dirt which creates a certain sound from the engine. And when you rev the engines they spin too freely like there is no flywheel or something

None of the other games even include wind and road noise for some reason

this is the veyron in GT5 (thanks RDK) :

what do you think of its sound ? is it realistic ?

my impressions :

eventhough it is a standard car, it looks graphically like a next gen forza3/NFS shift car or even better. the sound I think is average but not at all realistic (but we need a real video to compare, does anyone have it ? maybe the test of veyron in topgear ?)

I have a feeling that eventhough overall sound in GT5 is better than prologue but GT5 has the same issue sound-wise of its predecessors : too much samples reused for a lot of cars, a lot of cars sound the same...is it the same problem for premiums and standards ? or do premiums have a more accurate and varied sound ? we must not forget that the sound of standards was recorded a long time ago since the days of GT4 development, unlike the sound of preiums recorded very recently (better recording technology ?)

As for sound samples: I´m not asking that PD goes and records ALL the cars, but at least make the 4 cyl sound like 4 cyl, the 8 cyl like 8cyl and the same goes to any other engine type. How come cars like the Cizeta sounds IDENTICAL to its real life counterpart, and an iconic car like the Corvette(specially the C5) sounds like a blowdrier? The same for the Saleen and others.

As for the sound effects: these are more than perfect since Prologue. I doubt they can get better since I still cant believe how realistic they sound.

As for exhaust mods: i hope is not another random engine swap like in previous GT´s. If NFS can do it, GT can do it.

Ugh... The Veyron sounds aweful. The Veyron has a deep snarl, not a high pitched wail. Even discounting that, the high pitch noise they have sounds like a dyson vacuum. If the American V8's sound poor like that I'll stick to forza. I have my fingers crossed now.

Yeah... The Veyron in GTPSP sounds like it has a V6 when in reality it sounds something like a V8 but with a deeper growl.

It sounds like a muffled Lambo. It should sound like a muffled V8 as the is pretty much what it is. Two V8s stuck together.

I'm just awestruck at the sound coming from that Veyron... Do the sound guys at Poly have hearing problems or something? They clearly didn't even try to make one of the most iconic supercars sound remotely like the real deal.

That video really put a kink in the hype for me. Things were looking up after seeing much improved audio from a handful of cars. I went from excitedly anticipating the American V8's to dreading they will sound poor in the blink of an eye. :(

I think the veyron is tuned because of the gear whine, and the exhaust sounds comepletely different then the real one.

EDIT: I don't know actually, RDK said it was his first time with the veyron, so I guess it just sounds bad

Yup, a lot of racing games made this same gaffe with the SLR McLaren not too long ago. In midnight club LA the SLR sounded more like an AMG V12 than the beautifully snarly V8 with the subdued blower whine.

But I expect that from an arcadey game, not a premier sim racer. :/

Well that's put quite a dampener on things. :indiff:

Seems the greatest Veyron I can drive is in NFS Shift still, or the rFactor port. :)

The rear wing animation looks a bit... ugh, not entirely realistic. Can somebody at least fix the sound with tuning? It's a standard though, so even that's limited right? Buggeration.

I don't think they ever got in a real Veyron (not surprising), it was just a quick job for GT PSP. They probably didn't record it as a result. It sounds like a generic sound they cobbled together.

I don't expect all the standards to get much attention.
