In that vid there is doppler effect delay, and the stereo sound & volume is screwed up (But that last part may be just my headphones... But why do the GT replays sound good? hmm. I listen to Formula One on these headphones when I watch online and that's also fine).

There is no denying, the engine sounds are better in Forza. PD have shown they can make good sounds (Dubbed sounds from E3 trailer). All they have to do is implement those into the game, which is probably easier said than done. Let's hope they've done it already, and are just holding it back for closer to release.

No, it's not you - it's purely the video. It's the only one I could find without lame arse music in it. This one is better, and has the best-sounding car in the game....at least to me.

Listen to that crackle.

If PD ever had sounds like that in a GT title, I'd honestly never have anything else bad to say about it...unless whatever it is I'm complaining about is really, really annoying. :D

Again, the engine sounds are excellent. But the same slight delay in the doppler effect and the stereo effects don't quite sound right. But it's difficult to judge from youtube videos.

I think it's probably more suited to a 5.1 surround. From these headphones it just sounds completely odd. It's like stereo vs Mono in GT4. Stereo (Without a decent sound system) didn't sound right, but Mono sounded fine. In GT5:P they seem to have sorted that problem out.

Really?

I honestly don't notice it.
EDIT: Nevermind. I hear it, I think.

Are you sure you don't have those two mixed up? The F430 sounded awful in my opinion. But the F2007 was fairly accurate.

Very sure. I've attended many F1 races and you probably won't find a more fanatical F1 fan 'round these parts and the sound of the F2007 was so bad I could barely even use the car. The on-board sounds were the same as the exterior, the wind noise was FAR too loud compared to the engines (you would barely be able to hear it in reality) and in general they were just poor. rFactor's generic V8 F1 sounds are pretty on the money, though.

agreed. Rest assured that won't happen for a looooong time though. PD obviously seems to think their sound techniques are okay, despite almost every other game out there sounding better.

still the same sound from Prologue

I'm confident these won't be in the final game. The IS-F no longer sounds like what it did in Prologue, and it was just as bad in Prologue

Is there an actual video of the IS-F with sound?

All we have, apart from the PD DataLogger one

If you use headphones, you can hear it on this as well, same time trial vs data logger ghost on Fuji
Slight break in music at 2:25

Cheers mate 👍

That first video, at 0:11 seconds...the low end grunt and bass put a smile on my face. If they got the sound for the IS-F so good, what the hell happened to the rest?? :(

This is what it sounds like in Prologue - big difference. So either they haven't put the final sound engine into these recent demos, or I don't know what :)
All the demos still use Prologue sounds/engine

from 1:50 onwards. Very zingy and synthetic sounding

My god what a difference. What I don't understand is, these videos are quite old. So if the IS-F sounded so good back then, why then in the latest E3 demo are they still using Prologue sounds? Why wouldn't they want to show off the new and improved sounds if they have them?

Beats me, maybe it's too much work to put the final sound engine into the demos - or they couldn't be bothered. Guess they're rushing to get the game finished, can't spare any time.

The Time Trial sounded better than Prologue, so I'm hopeful

Also, another example of upgraded sound since Prologue (but not in the E3 demos) is the R8. Someone posted a R8 video from E3 that sounds exactly like Prologue however well over a year ago PD had the R8 sounding much better. Compare these two videos to notice the difference. Left is from early 2009 and right is E3 2010.

Engine sounds are very digital and flat, they lack torque sensation.
I think they recorded audio by revving the engine with steady cars instead of did it on the dyno:tdown:

I'm sorry, but R8 (V8) sound it's the SAME as the one in Prologue. They only fixed the gearbox (S-Tronic) that now works fine. But, the sound it's the same. Maybe it's one of the "good" ones... Sure, not like the M3 sound!

So far I'm only impressed by the IS-F. The R8 still has that "digital" sound in the high revs as RedBaron suggested. Not impressed. We wont find out until November sadly :(

Imo, the NFS series has some of the best engine and effects sounds to date.
I've thrown some samples together from various NFS games.
Notice not only the great engine sounds, but also the blow off valves, turbo spool, supercharger/gearbox whine and gear change effects.
Anyway check it out.

Yeah the NFS Shift sounds blows everything else out of the water. What's even more impressive, is that cars sound wildly different depending on upgrades. A stock E36 M3 and a fully racing-prepped version are day and night apart. The sounds from PGR4 are very good as well, but you can't upgrade anything. That makes Shift much more impressive in this aspect.

shift could be the best racing game on consoles till now...
the problem is that they converted the GTR series physics engine to arcade.
I bought that game and sold it only because of the physics that were too east and forgiving for a simulation, even with every aid off. Best version is PC, where you can install mods to tweak the physics and enjoy a real driving game with a good wheel.
Sounds are the best part of that game, with cockpit view

NFS:Shift is the perfect opposite of GT regarding the style of development.
Shift was designed to appear fantastic at first sight, GT is designed to be played for months and months... Shift is designed thinking more about graphics that variety and precision, GT is the opposite... Shift is meant to sell a lot of copies spending less time and money, GT is meant to sell a lot of copies, but after years of meticulous development... and so on.
However, if they used a different approach, Shift could be a good game that could suit everyone's tastes... but it isn't.

That's what I love about NFS. The fact that nearly each upgrade has an affect not only on performance but on sound as well.
I mean, not all turbo cars have the same BOV and that was translated into their games. That's attention to detail right there.
Another effect I really love is the abilty to rev in between shifts either on the up or down which other games(console based) don't really allow.
Absolute masters!

:)hehe Although some aspects of NFS sounds are known to be a bit exaggerated and the whole audio in Shift is clipping(distortion occurs) somewhat, it is still one of the best library of car sounds out there.👍 Period. (you probably knew most of those cars just by listening to their sounds which says a lot about authenticity/fidelity, which in my view is much more important than the raw quality of the sound sample and audio hardware specs!)
That's why I...let's say borrowed some of the sounds to make new engine sounds for Test Drive Unlimited when I was into sound modding.
And it worked pretty good.;)
Now, if I could only mod GT5...:P
p.s. I still have hope that, as some may have already said, many of the sounds we've heard so far are actually temporary placeholders until they see fit to blow us away with the real thing!:D

As far as we know, GT5 will overtake any racing game in quality...
the only thing that really can't beat most of the games out there in the last years is sound

As they should. As far as I'm concerned if EA can do it there no reason PD shouldn't be able to as well. GT is supposed to be the halo racing game, the one all other are compared to, there no excuse for having inferior sound quality. If they don't improve it all it shows is a total lack on concern for sound quality, or that they're too obsessed with the look of the game to be bothered with sound quality.

Have any of you got an amplifier with sound tuning software on board, as it really does help, on my amp in can isolate sounds and decrease or increase them.
So I set myself a mission to get GT5P to sound good and after 3 hours of tweaking it sounds great the cars sound more raspy, I have increase exhaust noise and turned down the wind noise.
