I've heard that Kaz has stated that they record the sounds of the cars as it's going round a track rather than a dyno like T10 did with the Forza series, i could be wrong though, just relaying information that i've seen on GTP before.
I see your point and i disagree a little. I think they have correct samples, but those samples are made while car is static, and this is where the problem lays. Recording a sound of engine in a static car, will be crystal clear (all other noises excluded), but those sounds will be different as soon as car goes on the road and under a load. When we hear a sound from a car (moving), that sound constitutes of other sounds also, which if are not included won't give us the complete sound of a car.
When you play, you wont think about the sound so much. atleast not me and couldnt care less about "extreme sounding engines".
wow, u people are never satisfied! It´s a game, not reality. You can try to simulate reality, it´s hard. Even engine sound are very hard to simulate. becuse all engines sound different even if it is the same model and engine. But your can not always hear the difference anyway.

To have a complete sounding engine it's not only important to have full throttle samples, it's also important to have samples of car doing engine braking and just cruising (which is what all the sounds in GT are made of now, however in many cases with too short loops and too few various rpm range layers) and changing them on the fly with throttle position. It's the only way to do it right.
That's a huge mistake. Engine sound creates great part of illusion driving real sports car. People are not satisfied because sound as it is now is three classes under wonderful graphics and great physics. Therefor it's like beautiful lady in cocktail dress wearing gum galoshes. At least for some people that have healthy ears.
Graphics are far more important for immersion
Im desperately hopin PD finally manage to fix this problem that hasn't really been touched since the first GT but if im honest im not really holding out much hope and it'll be 'vacuums R us' as usual:tdown:
One month to release and the sound is still crap. I can't believe there are still people defending gt5's sounds. There were times when you had the excuse of a long time until final version but now there's no more time for improvement and things are ugly. Face it, gt does not do good in the sound department. It looks so easy in PC sims, but Kaz is obviously lost in the whole "perfection" thing and forgot about the second most important thing-realistic raw sport engine sound.
Wouldn't showing bad sounds put off potential buyers.. I'm quite sure they would prefer to hear the original sounds..
Oh come on, you're gonna keep repeating that until the very moment of release aren't you. Everybody knows a month before release a game is ready and is being printed and shipped. The logic of why they would show latest builds of everything else but the sound remains clear only to true fanboys.
Now they are in the hyping phase and if they had great sounds the would definitely show them now.

I agree snoops, people can't defend the sounds even though they try and fail to. But Kaze has mentioned "improved sounds" whatever that means, so lets wait and hear.
I'm curious, does Best MOTORing do anything to alter engine sounds? I ask because whenever they're showing a car in the cockpit view the sound is actually very similar to GT5. In other words, there's a somewhat muted sound to the engine while the engine sound is very raw when they're showing the cars pass around the track.
I guess cheap microphones for the small cameras used inside the cars.
It would have helped if you showed an example, though.
