the physics definitely look much better. the lean is realistic which plants the car at that radius of turn. much much better just like a real car on the track.

Well now that I've had a couple hours to digest the demo I think I'll compile my thoughts.

The AI - They're still completely brain dead.
Hard braking in high speed sections which caused me to have to veer wildly to avoid them. Their driving habits are suicidal, incompetent and slower than my partner who makes no attempt to drive quickly, "Ducks in a row" are back despite what we were told - at least in this build.

Skid Recovery Force - On by default.

I'll avoid the controversy surrounding this topic and simply state that SRF defaulted to "on" in the demo, it was also on for the hand holding lap with "Lucas" yammering on and on telling me how to drive (Which got my rather vocal as I wanted to get to the meat and potatoes of the demo) but I can't say I'm bothered about that.
Long and the short of it is, you need to go out of your way to set the game to realistic physics and that just absolutely shouldn't be the case.

Smoke and Shadow pixelation - gone.

I spent a great deal of time trying to get the Z to drift despite the incredibly grippy sports tyres, when I did I went through the replay a few times - I found no noticeable pixelation. It also appears that smoke is visible through the windows but I didn't get a proper look so take that for what it's worth.

Shadow pixelation in the cockpit was nonexistent, brilliant step up from the jagged edges from before.

Car models - Good in places, lacking in others.

The car models are looking great, until the replay decided I needed a good hard look at their playdough seats. The interior still looks very fake and had it's share of jagged edges.

Physics and Force Feedback - Great!

The wheel felt much more connected to the car in GT6, however there's something not quite right about it that I just can't put my finger on..
The tyre model really does feel much closer to reality than before with the tyres slipping much more like they should rather than the current snap.

Tyre wear wasn't something I could really test - but tyre temperature feels much smoother in progression.

Suspension feels good but I can't comment on it much with the tuning locked up - you really feel your suspension compressing and expanding much more through the wheel than you used to.

Visuals - Stunning but oversatured in places.

When I first loaded up Autumn Ring my jaw dropped - it just looks so much more fantastic than the screenshots led me to believe, and I had already thought it looked brilliant. There are odd glitches all over the place due to the early build but overall it's a very lovely environment and just so much nicer than GT5.

However there are trees on the side of the road that are sort of constantly raining leaves which makes me feel like I'm playing a pokemon game...

Human element - Still not quite there.

The intro cinematic does show promise as the humans act more.. like humans - but with no crowd on the side of the tracks that I noticed it's difficult to tell if they'll be continuing with the 2d minecraft cutouts.

Wheel rotation - Hands still lock at 90 degrees. (Gloves look nicer though)

Replay cameras - Far more impressive and more engaging.

UI - Absolutely lovely and a massive improvement.

Load times - Noticeably quicker and a great improvement over GT5's sluggish nature.

Sounds - Better in some areas than in others.

When they loaded me into the Leaf I wasn't feeling to happy, the tyre squeals still sound awful and were just made more prevalent with the electric motor - but once they let me use the Z I was overjoyed with how much meatier she sounds, it's giving me great hope for future improvements down the line closer to release.

All in all it's a very disappointing experience as a demo - but it did confirm and disprove a lot of my thoughts, questions and concerns

Oh dang the demo is out right now? I will have to try it out sometime this week or weekend.

Making my way to doing some GT Academy trails. I'll give out my small impression on the demo so far.

1. The new physics are a dream come true. It feels a lot more better than in GT5. I went wild in the 370Z at Autumn Ring because the physics were up there. In GT5, I don't normally do that as often because for some reason the physics just wasn't really the best to do so imo. :P But I'm loving the suspension physics, the most being in the Leaf it was showing a lot. 👍

2. The track scenery other than Grand Valley, is so beautiful. At Autumn Ring, theres birds and a plane in the sky, grass, and even leaves falling from the trees. Suzuka looks to be very different, or is it me? It looks a lot more better. :)

3. The main menu and faster loads is a lot better, loving the dealership and garage, those must stay like that in the full game. Don't change them PD. 👍

4. In game and replays looks to be good so far, feels like I'm playing GT4 with better physics. However there are frame rate issue during races though.

Well I'm off to go do some GTA trails, see you guys later. :) Oh, and one more thing. This GT6 demo so far feels a lot like a Gran Turismo game unlike GT5, PD must keep it that way until release because right now, I'm in love with this demo. ;)

First impressions from the demo section (and not GT Academy).

Pros
- Cleaner and faster menu system
- Dealership and Garage menu including test drive, information, etc
- Clear car information in dealership view
- Stunning car modelling (as you would expect)
- Gorgeous dynamic lighting on tracks
- Aliasing on smoke and dust effects appears better
- New suspension modelling and body roll reaction
- New tyre modelling with levels of grip feeling more 'real'
- Overall handling feels more realistic compared to GT5
- Support for my very old PS2 vintage Driving Force wheel

Cons
- Smaller view of car in dealership and garage screens (would like to have a larger view)
- The above issue makes choosing colours less gratifying
- Flickering shadows cheapen the visuals dramatically
- Some textures appear poorly done or lower resolution than others
- The above makes for inconsistency in the feel of quality
- Some jerky animation particularly on driver
- Loss of FX volume briefly after even minor contact with other cars
- Seriously poor AI performance making winning in the available races too easy
- Grating whine of the Nissan Leaf (is it really that annoying in real life?)
- Reduced force feedback giving a numbness of feeling

Overall I would certainly purchase GT6 for the new handling and for the beauty of new premium car models to drive on new and existing tracks.
I certainly would not purchase it solely on the merit of the available demo.

Again, as with GT5, I feel the inconsistency of quality is going to be a major killer of this game. Maybe the difference between premium and standard cars will be less noticeable, but to have such beautiful lighting effects, car models and track details ruined by some nasty texturing and some seriously dodgy looking flickering shadows will really drag the game down.

I was running this on a fairly new slim PS3 (since my old fat one died a year or two ago) and I didn't notice any frame rate issues as others have mentioned.

Not quite accurate.

Yes it is on by default in the 'GT-lite' bit with the Clubman Cup, etc and can be turned off, however in the actual Academy events its locked to off.

Did anyone notice this?
When you open the "Replay Details", there is an option called "Export to PS3 system?". Of course, you can't click on it, but what does it mean? Does it allow to export replays as video files?

This place exploded lol. We should all go watch that video for the , if you get 5 million views we unlock special content, I'm sure we'll get 5 mil by next week.

And I can't wait to download this demo.

I really hope the AI will be good, I want some competitive racing from the AI for once lol.

A friend of mine said it was improved for him but personally I saw no difference. They're still horrendously slow and they still cut you up if you're too near to them near a corner. :grumpy:

Yeah, I've noticed this too. However correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't there something like this in GT5 where it just exported replay data for other ps3 consoles to play?

This would be a great feature if it exported it as a video file.👍

I'm loving the menus, especially the easy and quick access to your garage from the start menu.👍:)

Am I the only one loving the music in the game? Also noticed that you can now actually hear the music while driving!

Other than that I love the physics and UI. Ai sucks though, and I'd love to just take a stock car and do hot laps on any circuit. I haven't experienced any frame rate issues.

Yes the A.I is still rubbish in this demo.

I was going to write out my feeling on the demo but this is pretty much my feelings to a tee.

I would also expand that the 'races' were no such thing, they were still with the stupid spaced out rolling start and the AI were indeed braindead. I hope that isn't what we're going to have in the final game.

Also one other point, the Lucas popups were very cheesy, nobody talks like that.

It's worth noting that I'm only speaking of the "Demo" portion, not the GT Academy 👍

That could also be it. I would even go as far as to say that this is most likely the case...

It is the option already existing in GT5. It allows you to export replay data to XMB in order to copy it to external USB device and either save it on your computer or send the replay to someone else via e-mail so he can watch it on his console.

There is no way to export GT5 replay as video-file, primarily because of the size-reasons and length of coding for the video-file.

One minute clip in 720p@60fps would take approx. 600MB in MPEG-2 compression WITHOUT AUDIO, I can't calculate how much would audio take, strongly depends upon audio-coding, but probably more. If we're talking about non-compressed H264 in 720p@60fps, it is roughly 2GB per minute of footage. Of course, if compressed, the video-size would shrink drastically, but in order to compress something you first need to have it uncompressed and then have the tools to compress it.

Also, in order to actually render that ficitonal 720p@60fps video from replay file, the PS3 would probably need a damn long time. If 1080p@60fps, make it 4X the length of that "long time".

Nice feedback Urie, I mostly agree with all of it. Especially the raining leaves

One thing I don't agree on is the sound of the 370z. Sounds nearly identical to me.

Also, anyone feel like grinding the Clubman Cup to see if there's a 20 million credit limit? :D

Sure, but why use 60 fps? 30 or 25 fps would be just as fine.
Doesn't Forza have this feature? To me, it seems not very practical, but certainly not impossible.
