I don't think I can do much better than this:

So you tell me - was I dirty here, or was there a legitimate hole and was he in the wrong? If you're like me, you'll have a different opinion based on which car the camera is from. Personally, I think I was perfectly fine, but I understand his frustration. However, binning me was uncalled for. At least he got a 3 second penalty so he didn't win, but he did get second place, which should have been mine (IMO). Oddly enough, I feel just fine after this race - not ticked off or anything.

It's a completely fine move, don't worry about it.

There's something to be said though for the rise in self appointed vigilante stewards that punt you off in retaliation when they feel they've been wronged, happens a lot when people turn into you as if you're not there so they get bumped wide. Always watch the replay first.

My replay from my fastest lap in FP/qualifying in Race C last week, set only a few hours before the change to this week's races. I thought I'd peaked at 1:52.4, then over the weekend I got down to a 1:52.28 as I finally figured out how to be more aggressive at the chicane, then finally I managed a 1:52.1 (good enough for the Top 400 on the leaderboard) as I got my line through the final corner figured out. This was the most fun I've had in a GT7 daily that wasn't a Gr.1 or open wheel race. I can't believe how good the Corvette actually was around here. I honestly wasn't expecting the last BoP change to really make a difference because the Gr.4 Corvette has always been a bit (and often a lot) garbage in GT7, and PD had clearly given up on Gr.4 for quite a while. Instead, I actually prefer the Gr.4 version right now since the Gr.3 is a twitchy death machine on corner exits below 5th gear...

If he had braked earlier, you would have sailed off the track
The contact was your fault, you braked way too late
When mistakes are made, waiting is not a bad idea
I rarely post, no one responded to this
👍🏻

If I’m not mistaken, the track map is oriented correctly; IE if you are heading west and see the sun, it’s afternoon
Hmm

Now i see that as a flat screener with very little spatial awareness..or care factor, who should have left room to go two wide around that corner. The funny thing is that guy braked himself into being parallel with grumpy meaning he knew he was there.

Wow, a Group 2 battle at Fuji, I'll take it. This should be really interesting to see what occurs. There may be some carnage with the A drivers. I got a good time at Deep Forest this morning using the Megane car. 1'36.523

However I still need to push even more for a better time. SSRX has gotten repeated at least 3 times.

The Ferrari is at 100% fault. He also got pissed with his own lack of awareness and took it out on you.

I hate these kind of drivers. I’ve tried to tell such drivers in post-race chat to check replays. And they never do.

If he had braked earlier, you would have sailed off the track
Why would you say that when anyone can see the replay and note the speed at the apex?

It's absurd. There have been some great Race A combos that never get repeated, but for some strange reason this absolutely terrible race keeps getting repeated.
There's also 2 oval tracks we haven't even used in Dailies in GT7 at all! At one point Gr.3 at BMB was a staple race in GTS, and that was actually fun because it actually required skill to navigate 2 of the 3 corners instead of being 100% luck like SSRX and Daytona.

Yeah, I only saw the Daytona oval race in the A slot, and that was back in November 2022. I remember it clearly now. It's really gonna be difficult picking up wins at SSRX, because if I get the pole time, the drivers behind me can get an advantage to pass me using the slipstreams.

Does anyone have a tip on how I can master this, everytime I got a pole time and started first, all the races passed me in like 30 seconds.

I do not feel as if it was your fault. You were running out of space to make the turn but they could have got around you with a wider turn carrying more speed than you because you still needed to slow down a little more to make the turn.

I also bet that they did not have the radar on otherwise they would have seen you. Radar during a race is key.

Do you think he'd avoided it with VR? My big problem with VR is the complete lack of peripheral vision. In real life I'm used to racing karts with no mirrors, so in this sort of situation I very aware of anyone appearing in the corner of my eye as I turn in. With VR that's totally missing, not sure I'd have seen Grumpy coming down my inside. I do watch the radar carefully, but there's a limit to how much attention I can take away from track in front of me to watch for last minute dives.

That's why I mainly don't use VR, I just use the basic racing mode for gt7. My eye vision is blurry sometimes, so I have to use glasses if it gets bad. I have to stand real close to my TV to see the screen.

Hi everyone!

I hope you all are doing marvellously fine. Haven't been around here much for quite some time (almost a year, I think), because I had quit daily races out of frustration about the in-race behaviour of some guys (and for some other reasons).

But last week PD presented the unresistable Race A combo with the Mazda touring car, so I gave it a try. I did five races (on my practice account, to protect my ratings on my main account (boy, did I feel rusty)). The outcome wasn't very satisfying, as I got rear-ended in four of these races (that's 80%, right? 😆). But: I raced in DR B / SR B-C lobbies, so my question is: how is driver behaviour in higher rated lobbies? Has it improved a bit? Should I dive into it again? What do you guys think?

Welcome back, yes I have not seen you in ages. How have you been doing? Yes, I think the Mazda races at Tsukuba were a blast. I did at least 20 of them. Cool, crisp fun and enjoyment from PD!

This actually sounds like VR might be good for you. You should consider giving it a try, especially when you have a generous return policy.

When it comes to flat screen (bumper/cockpit/chase cam view) vs VR, unfortunately, folks without spatial awareness exist in every display format (just like Lance Stroll in real life). :D
so my question is: how is driver behaviour in higher rated lobbies? Has it improved a bit? Should I dive into it again?
Nothing has changed. The same thing has always been true- the higher a lobby, the better and more consistent drivers get, generally resulting in more predictable and hence cleaner races. At DR-B/C lobbies, most drivers are not dirty, they just drive very differently from each other, resulting in chaos.

I agree that Tsukuba + Miata Roadster was fun. Tsukuba + any Miata/go karts has always been a classic. The week before it had '89 stock Miatas at the Horse Thief Mile which was also a riot to play.
Does anyone have a tip on how I can master this, everytime I got a pole time and started first, all the races passed me in like 30 seconds.
Can you record a replay and show us?

Yeah.
I will see this coming in the side views 99% of the time. Most cars have decent mirrors, except the lambo. Horizontal cig packs on chopsticks those things are…

The rest are fine. Just adjust the seat so you get a little bit of the mirrors, then clock, and track the movement. Thing with peripheral vision is you have to use it. Its easy to focus only on the goal ahead keeping the eyes tight. The trick is to relax the vision a bit and be aware of the light/dark changes, then look. Also, just like irl, keeping a constant rotation around the mirrors and generally always being aware is necessary. Turn the head an inch and cut the eyes. Rinse, repeat. Granted im an east coast mid atlantic us person sooo i might be a bit more practiced with these habits as we are a wee bit on the aggressive side 🙄

Also. How far do you have the headset off of your face? I do keep mine kinda close. Are you way up on the wheel?

Yeah.

You can adjust how far the headset is from your face? I'm sat well back from the wheel, not too close. I think part of what I'm missing is using the mirrors properly, as I posted above, I'm used to racing without them in a kart. So I'm mainly using the close range radar to keep an eye on what's happening around me, perhaps I need to train the corner of my eye to watch the mirrors instead.

 You might strongly disagree with me too, but I think that the pass was not on and it was easily avoidable by you.

I only disagree with you saying I couldn't slow down in time. I don't necessarily disagree with anything else you say - I don't necessarily agree either...

@GrumpyOldMan It's one of those about perspective. From their view you disappeared due to the penalty and they were free to take the corner. From yours you managed to keep the speed enough to be alongside into the corner. (Probably due to better braking technique). They simply weren't aware of you and you surprised them when they turned in. That's on them. Thankfully the game punished them for their petulance.

Here's the honest truth about that incident. At the time, during the race, I thought we were closer to side-by-side than we were. If I had glanced at the radar, I might have thought differently, but I was working on making sure I got the right speed for the corner, and I was honestly shocked that there was contact.

Looking at the replay, it wasn't as cut-and-dry as I thought it was. Would I do it again? I'm not sure. Maybe not. No biggie either way, but it's interesting.

My thoughts on Grumpys incident;

Other cars fault, but in Grumpys position I wouldn't have made the move because it was pretty likely that a penalised car on the inside line isn't going to end well when paired with a faster car on the outside line.

Whilst the other car 'caused' the crash, self preservation is an important part of racing and incidents like these are prime examples of how you can save yourself from others incidents by positioning yourself better.

It's better to let the other car past than it is to risk a high speed crash on the apex of a tight corner. In any other sim, that's a double DNF. Only GT7 lets that get to revenge punt territory.

I cannot believe I made it out alive from Deep Forest a few moments ago! I started in P11 and was really happy with an "old switcheroo" move in the tunnel at the end of Sector 1 :D As I exit the tunnel before the harsh left-hander at the exit of the tunnel (lap 2) in Sector 3 but....

I get TORPEDOED into the barriers, with damage and DOWN TO P13 and start lap 2 in last place?!?! He DID NOT get a penalty btw...

Was about to rage-quit but decided to keep going and made my way up to P13 as lap 4 started and caught up to the "problem group" of cars... Approaching the end of Sector 1 on lap 5, I managed to jostle into P9 but again, taken out like a rabid dog!! P11 again....

However, between the dirty ones killing each other and serving penalties, I exit the tunnel for the last time in P8 and after keeping an eye on the same scumbag who took me out the first time, I made the turn on the left and darted to the finish line to keep the position! 😀

And no idea how but PD decided to take pity on me and still award me my clean bonus 🤣

Yes! Top right. Smushed against the face to full scuba mask. I prefer one click off of smushed as its similar to most helmets ive worn.

Yes with the training of mirror checks. It requires minimal movement of the head and youre no longer surprised when someone blasts into your radar. Clock em about 1-2secs back, then keep track. Easy peasy

My only rebut would be this was the last lap. Baring any shenanigans or mistakes whoever comes out of that turn ahead wins the race.

Man I do think some people make or maintain DR A through actual brute force cage fighting driving styles...

Going in to these short Daily Bs sometimes feels like I've joined Fight Club!
Same bro, same! Watch my replay, Lap 1 and Lap 5 tell you everything you need to know! ⚰️ 🤣 Also, very nice time dude, I am not comfy with Veyron so looking at other options 😅

Welcome back!

SR B-C lobbies are the absolute worse. I'm racing mid A/A+ lobbies now with SR S and the racing is much better and in my experience mostly clean and well fought. Even though I'm not that good in these lobbies and am still off the pace, I prefer them when I can keep up as the racing I find is just that much better. It is close and knocks do happen though, but to me those are mostly racing incidents and not just incompetence and dirtiness.

B/S lobbies are also okay on my alt account. The racing can be a bit more variable at B but that could also be the times I race on the Europ lobbies. Generally, I would say, if you ever drop below S, it is worth sacrificing DR (if needed) to get yourself back to S asap as the SR B/C crowd will only drag you down further.
