Race B is mega this week, going to do some off camera for fun! Enjoy :D!

Doesn't seem to be too popular though, was in a race yesterday evening (22:00? CEST) and we were three A+/S drivers, a few A/S and many B/S drivers... Not really good :/ But I have to agree, the race is a lot of fun

I’m going nowhere near it just because there’s a high likelihood of it tanking my SR.

That you can gain back very quickly, it just seems a strange choice to not do a race you might enjoy to protect a relatively superfluous rating.

We race online for fun in the end, no?
Trouble is you can end up in a SR spiral as you get placed into lower SR lobbies and then you’re not racing you’re trying to survive and come out with a clean race bonus. I think @TechnoIsLove had this issue recently where he was punted into SR B. I race for fun so avoid these situations before they happen.

I haven't done one of these for a while, a quick compilation of adventures and misadventures from todays race A:

How you control that Lambo around the track like that is beyond me. Nice job.

I was even having some trouble with the otherwise very smooth McLaren; also tried the Ford GT LM II and it was okay but I would crash ~20% of the time through that downhill section, obviously not good enough.

I need to get better with the Mustang. It used to be one of my go to cars but lately I am spinning out a lot. Just need to get back into the grove with it.

Had my first go at race C tonight, which was also my first time I did an online race with tyre wear and fuel consumption, I really enjoyed it.
I used the viper, probably not the fastest car but I love driving it. Seemed pretty good on fuel to, when i pitted on lap 10 I still 1.3 laps of fuel left.

Yep, was almost down ta SR C without ever being at fault in all the collisions and punts I suffered. In the end it took me 2 wins, around 4 podiums and 5 top 5 finishes in about 15 races to get back to S and even then, need more to get back in top tier of the races 🫤

In the end it came down to finding a balance of fair but "elbows out" racing against those who didn't really observe fair competition. If I could hold my ground and not give them the space that already wasn't there, they would end up killing themselves and I could go on about my race in peace. Not how I like to race but needed to be done to escape those type of lobbies and players ..

The Lamborghini is nowhere near as bad as I expected, I thought it would be spinning whenever it got to Skyline. I try to keep a little bit of power on all the way down the hill just to keep the car balanced, I guess all the mid-engine cars are similar, it might help with the front heavy cars too but be less noticeable.

After seeing the MX-5's were back this week I got excited. Perhaps my favourite car from GTS.
But then they waste the combo a bit by having Sport Hard tyres! Why not have softs or even racing tyres for a better race?
Once I got used to the fact this normally stable car had fairy liquid on it's tyres I was able to grab a decent qualy position. (My best non Manu/ Nations since Sport)
First few laps were good and I gained a few places and was on the back of P4 and pulling away from those behind. Then the random snap came and the car decided to carry on turning right after turn 3 and I grassed it. Thankfully I didn't spin but was back to P12. From there it was a case of keeping it on the track and I managed to get back up to P9 before the race ended.

Ran a couple of A races this morning, first in the 650s, I finished as p4 so retained my position inspite of the lack of speed
Tried the Ford GT LM Racing car after that.
Now that's a fun car. Steer with the throttle across the mountain and with a good exit it will pull the Supra down the straight.
Unfortunately I had a little run in with a guy in a Supra that outbraked me at at the Chase, or at least he tried. He was on the inside and didn't make the turn so took me off alongside him
I was faster back on though.

I'll try it, but I dont have high hopes for my skill level... especially on that track. That being said, the Ford GT LM II is one of my favorite cars in the game, but in my experience it's pretty stable for an MR; the Audi and Lambo were among the worst.

And, FWIW, Digit was impressed, too:

Welcome to the club. Have a seat, relax, the beer is cold...
Love that car.

I had the same experience twice. Once at dreaded Yamagiwa, falling down from SR S to SR B twice and even to SR C once and crawling back up again to S in two days of time, and later, to a lesser extent, at Trial Mountain reverse. This second time I was a bit cleverer and stopped racing there to avoid falling so far down the ratings once again.

I'm still interested in this week's race B, because I like the type of car, but I would pull the plug as soon as I realized that there was more to lose than to win there.

If this happens, can you sandbag in the back, not pass anyone and finish last in order to avoid any of the BS to build back SR? Yea, your DR will tank but that's easier to build back... especially once you're back at SR|S.

Yes you can. I did that several times.

Not too sure as like you said, DR takes a hit so you will be matched with players of less experience, who can inadvertently also not know proper racing and hit you, etc and still damage your SR.. Plus players with low SR and high DR are also placed in B lobbies so still a risk.

I was getting murdered (SR) in Sardegna so I stopped racing there for a few days until the tracks changed on Monday.

I have taken up online racing for the first time again in GT7, after doing a bit of online in GTS.
It was a mixed experience. On the one hand, many players are quite mad or incompetent or both. Lots of aggressive driving and punting.
On the other hand, I seem to be a bit more relaxed now and don't try to max my position at all cost. As a result I can drive much more defensively and avoid most of the mayhem. For me, that results in a much better online experience. Let the hooligans crash themselves out. Stay away from groups of cars. Be alert if any player is less than a second away from you and stay safe as much as go fast.
So far, so good for me. But it's ridiculous how a substantial part of competitors drive.

This is all a slippery slope to just never racing at this point lol

"Oh I don't want to race in case my SR goes down and if my SR goes down my DR will have to go down to protect my SR but then my SR will keep going down anyway because of drivers with a lower DR"

Why care, honestly? Just race and have fun. If you die or get hit, whatever, just queue up for the next one. The rating is ultimately meaningless unless you're going to be on the GTWS stage. It's not like you all lucked your way into where your ratings are now. If any of them fall, they'll get back to where they should be before long.

I found Sardegna surprisingly clean and fair (got some podiums and two wins there with Lucky😆), as long as I was racing in B/S lobbies. As soon as my rating was high enough to be awarded with racing in lobbies with lower A drivers, it became dirty.

I ran it in Manu in GTS. As long as the multiplier isn't too high I love it too

I was half a second per lap faster with it in Sardegna than with the Supra. Quick enough to get mostly Top5 qualifiers there, even one or two poles. Definitely my favourite GR3 car, and not for its beautiful design alone.

Although, technically, it isn't really GR3, or is it?

Shame Race A isnt a DR race, im pretty competitive so far, but could be a false impression as maybe no one is really trying that hard! I watched Kie last night and its clear Im losing most my time compared to him down the mountain. I just don’t know how he carries so much speed without locking up.

I was happy with 3rd that race, Digit and the leader felt quicker than me but then he missed the braking point and took the leader off 🤑

They turn DR off for any race I'm okay at, it's Daytona oval all over again.

What car are you using?

I put in some quali laps and even though I thought they were ****, I was starting in the top three on the #1 account. My best quali lap was in the McLaren, but I couldn't get a W with it. Did get a win in the WRX but the lack of top end in the McLaren is killer; I just can't make up the .500" in the turny bits that I lose on the straights.

I have no intention of even TRYING a daily race this week because I don't want to support this lineup, at all, I doubt I'm the only one.

Load Cell + extra skill.

Load Cell does make it far easier to find very specific amounts of braking effort.

The hard left after the first incline on the way down can be taken very quickly, the cars seem to turn extra tight on that corner for some reason, I only tap the brake once at the top of the crest

I‘m in the Beetle, its so good and predictable up and over the mountain but it has a tendency to lock up on the way down. I’m starting pole during the day, so my time is decent enough. The WRX is meant to be decent but I can’t drive that car for toffee. I might give the 650 a go 🤔

I‘ve got the load cell, I‘m just lacking the extra skill 😄

True. This needs to be repeated once in a while. Unless you’re really up there competing at the very, very top it doesn’t mean much. And understand that there’s a massive difference between 55,000 and 90,000+ even if both are called A+. I get that it’s easy to get caught in this defensive mindset, I’ve been a victim of it as well but it’s nice to get out of it.

I made a thread on this topic back in April 2020 if anyone’s up for some reading:

Potential solutions could also be a non-static DR so if you’re inactive or not racing for a prolonged period it starts dropping. Alternatively two DRs. One for dailies and one for GTWS.
